Iβve been revisiting some of the C25k runs this week - the final runs of weeks 1, 2 and 3 - and I think it has done me (and my motivation) the world of good to take things back a bit. Itβs the first time Iβve managed three runs in a week since the end of December. π
This morning's short run on woodland trails was a rather muddy and windy way to round off the week, but very enjoyable none-the-less. It has been nice to come back to run/walk intervals again - I can see why so many forum members recommend "jeffing" now.
So although my total running distance for the week is nothing special at just short of 10k , my motivation to run is much higher than it's been for ages and that is my achievement for the week. Next week I plan on doing a bit more of the same because it seems to be working π.
That's great. We'll done Delly-dot. My Mum wants a companion to start couch 2 to 5k with and I'm looking forward to joining her one some runs. Blast from the past could be fun!
Oh well done to your mum and what a lovely thing to do together. You will enjoy her company and she yours. Running the old runs has been really motivating when I think back to when I ran then the first time! π
A lovely post D-d! Iβm planning to do some of the early C25k runs as well when I can start running again, which hopefully will be in a couple of weeks! Iβm so pleased your mojo has come back!
Thank you OGR π. I've really enjoyed this week - it has been a nice change to have some walking breaks. I'm going to do something similar next week too. Enjoy your runs when you start. Hopefully not long now π
Hi Oldgirlruns, I notice looking at the statistics of COGH that you have walked two HM distances, your total is 42K or a little higher with two walks done, I am just wondering if that is correct, if so congratulations on walking 2/HM's.
Hi Alan, no I fear I havenβt managed a walking HM - but thank you for the thought! As Iβm still on the IC, Iβm adding up the totals for the walks Iβm doing and entering them into the COGH total every few days. That includes my 5k not parkrun walks plus shorter distances, eg the half km walk round to Dexy and UTS who are my bubble in these trying times! Iβm enjoying the COGH challenge - just wish I could run it! I hope your own running is getting easier!
Thanks for that reply OGR, my right leg, is getting better, yesterday I walked 17K to add to COGH, perhaps next Sunday I'll walk 21K which would be HM distance, I'll see how I feel.
Well done you! Still on IC with Piriformis syndrome. But have been walking as much as I can and loads of stretching. I think I will follow your example and go back to C25K for a bit. Physio tomorrow so will see what she says. You are doing so well on Lejog... nearly finished! Look forward to seeing pic of you in T shirt and medal!
Hi Timotea. Well done on the walking and stretching - it will all pay off. It has been lovely to revisit some of the C25k runs, I'msure you'll enjoy it too and it should be a good way to ease yourself back in. I'mjust about to enter this week's runs and dog walks on LEJOG. I wonder where I'll get to...... π
Certainly is π. I read your post earlier - sounds like you've had a busy week. I'm glad you managed your run today. I find short runs really pick me up when I've been down or felt swamped by things, just proving that a good run doesn't need to be a long one. π€
Glad to hear you got some mojo back D-D. I sympathise completely - getting 3 runs a week in is hard at times. This week I just managed 2 as the weather was atrocious yesterday when I planned my long run. Hope you continue to enjoy the Jeffing!
Do give it a go. Itβs really helped me this past week. Iβm calling it my C25k pick nβmix π. Last week I did the third runs of the first three weeks. This week Iβm starting with W4R3 and then Iβll do the first two of the week five runs. Iβm making it up week by week but Iβm happy π and Mymojo is back ππΌππΌββοΈπ.
its great that we all have C25K there should we need it and having used it once we know that it works. So good to here that you have been back onto your woodland trails. I've been jeffing it since my knee problem and weirdly it doesn't make much difference to my times.
Good luck and hope to see some lovely woodland trail photos soon π
I noticed your posts mentioned about your times staying similar when you are jeffing. Thatβs really encouraging. Iβll post some photos soon. Iβve just bought a new (to me) refurbished iPhone, which is much bigger than my old one so a bit of a squeeze for my runnerβs belt, but the camera is excellent so I shall get snapping soon. The last run was lovely but my trainers are now in need of a wipe down!
That's a pretty good idea! Plus I bet it feels good to remember how far you've come in your running since then. I started C25K last May and couldn't run longer than 5 mins, now I consider a 30 min run, a really short one!! Good sometimes to remind ourselves how well we have actually done.ππββοΈπ
My motivation was flagging so I decided to go back to basics with a trip down Memory Lane. Itβs really lifted me out of the running doldrums. Iβm going to keep it going for a few more runs and then I hope it will be the bridge I need to get me back to working towards those longer runs again. π€πΌπ
I came off the injury bench yesterday as well. I walked 4km and jeffed 4k. I have decided jeffing is my path forward. My pace for the jeffing splits was about what it would have been for straight running. And glancing at my watch during the running bits, I was clearly running way faster than I could sustain straight running. Magic!
Take it carefully - glad to hear you got your running mojo back
My goal has been distance rather than speed. Right at the time my knee starting becoming quite sore I was thinking about trying to train up to a half. My orthopod, however, jokingly said "sure, you can run again, but you'll never run a marathon". (In his 40's, muscular, and the team doctor for the 76ers and the Phillies, so I am just a creaky old lady to him I suspect).
Still wrapping my head around whether jeffing is cheating or not. But I am coming to the conclusion that if it allows my arthritic body to go further, it's all good! I figure I actually ran approximately 2.5km yesterday, and I am absolutely certain I couldn't have done that running continuously. And today my legs are a little tired but my knee held up well.
Also, I jeffed one 5k before I had to stop running entirely in January, although I was already injured. Got a PB!! Knocked one minute off my previous PB.
It sounds like jeffing suits you WeavingWonk. Whatever gets us going and keeps us going is what works best, thatβs what I say. Happy jeffing, running or walking π
