New shoes, new me (almost ;) )

I've been thinking about buying new running shoes since before April but haven't really run enough this year for it to be an issue. It was only when I noticed last week that I could fold my Brooks Adrenaline 21 in half that I realised it was probably time to act.

I wanted an identical pair but progress marches ever onwards and the current model is 23. There don't seem to be any 21s anywhere, new or used. I decided to go for the 22 instead.

I found a pair online for £50 less than I paid for my last ones plus there was a free pair of socks too. There were some guilt twinges for not using my nearest running shop who are great but it's nearly an hour's drive and the car is playing up etc etc. Next time.

The shoes arrived yesterday afternoon and I resisted the temptation to put them on and run straight away. Instead, this morning I did a NRC interval run 'All over the pace' to try them out. Wow. What an improvement!

It's a 33 minute run with intervals between 30 seconds and two minutes at recovery, 10k, 5k, mile and 'best' pace so a great workout for the shoes (and me). At the end I was still nearly a km from home so decided to run the rest of the way slowly. Effortless. Why didn't I buy them sooner? Maybe I'd have run a bit more if I'd had them.

Or maybe having bright orange running shoes the equivalent of Go Faster racing stripes on a car?

They are super! I have some different Brooks coming on test today. Great colour too.

And excellent socks as well!

Thank you, free socks were quite a nice little bonus :)

Ooh which ones? My current two pairs are from Brooks. Really enjoying both of them.

Brooks Men's Glycerin Gts 20 Running Shoe. They have arrived and I have tried them on. Not yet convinced. Had a wander round the house, then took one off and wore one Brooks and one of my Asics Novablast and prefer the ones I already have.

I'm going to have a ponder and try them again later - as this try on was immediately post run.

They are gorgeous 😍😍😍 same as mine but I went for black of course. Yes, definitely like 'go faster' stripes. Hope you enjoy many happy miles together

Thanks, I spent about ten minutes looking at colours before deciding on the orange. Totally impractical when it gets muddy in the winter but they are so pretty right now 😍

(you've given me an idea, maybe I can buy some darker ones when the bad weather comes ;) )

I've got those, and love them! They are £80 on the website YesLetsGo got theirs Brooks from, I'm tempted but I really don't need any ore shoes at the moment, hope there's something good on there when I do need some.

No, shoes degrade even if not being worn, I learnt that ages ago. I've got 3 pairs on rotation, I normally get about 500 KM out of each pair, so enough for well over a year!

Interesting about the degradation. I bought a pair of running shoes and put them in a cupboard for about 10 years, apart from occasional walks. They saw me through C25K. They gave up the ghost just after I graduated and I got a tendon injury so I think you've got a point.

New shoes are just the best to run in. You certainly gave yours a good first outing. Wishing you many happy miles together!

Thank you. It's weird how you don't notice that your old faithful shoes aren't just 'not new' any more but that they've completely lost their bounce. It was great to do such a varied run, really pleased with them :)

They sound great , I run in Nike Pegasus and had them for a while and not having a clue what to buy 🤔

I was a bit baffled but I just don't have time to go to a running shop right now. I tried to get the shoes that were the most similar to the ones I liked!

Lots of websites have guidance on how to choose, worth a look.

Haha I feel you. Only recently treated myself to a pair of Saucony's and although I have had them for a few weeks now and run regulary in them, I still get excited just seeing them, waiting for me in the corridor.

Love a new pair of Brooks, I also try to buy last years model for a saving & got free socks 😁There's never any chance of getting the same ones again, they change too frequently! I always say if I find a pair I love I'll get a second pair, but never do, probably coz they're so costly.

Well worth it though 👌

The reviews were a bit offputting, said that the 22s were much softer than the 21s blah blah blah so I nearly didn't buy them. Then I decided I couldn't continue in the old ones so the choice was made. Very tempting to get another pair but I'll defer the pleasure for another 6-12 months until these are getting tired.
