New shoes, new runner, new hope!

We may be turning into a 'running family'! The 15yr old has started C25K as part of his Silver DofE and since his regular trainers were falling apart we had a family trip to our local Up and Running and emerged Β£270 lighter - eek! πŸ€‘ Mr Slinky needed trail shoes and I accidentally bought a pair of Brooks Ravenna 10s in the sale - the boys are Saucony fans now. Hats off again to Up & Running for being patient, great advice, allowing the kid to have a go on the running machine (bending the rules a bit - he's not far off 16 & we were there) and 10% discount for being Parkrunners & volunteers. πŸŽ‰

I didn't think I'd enjoy going back to C25K but it's great fun! Not only is running as a family a novel experience but as the child is already 4" taller than me with flamingo legs he runs at a fair pace. I have to run a bit faster to keep up so I'm using it as interval training and have a reason to get out there. Fingers crossed that I'll see some results in a few months.πŸ€žπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Happy new year running to to all!

Congratulations on the new family running shoe purchasing trip. Doing anything like that as a family is expensive but parkrun is free. Happy running and happy New Year.

Yes, thank goodness parkrun & running is free! A shame my son's shoes weren't in the sale but he slightly pronates and I wanted him to have some comfy shoes to help stick with the programme. Happy running to you too!

See, you have SAVED money by buying yours in the sale - good work! Lovely shoes too.

Thanks! When I knew they were Β£70, I caved in. I started running in the Ravenna 8s but swapped to Hoka for more cushioning and stability and think I still prefer these but am enjoying the lightness of the Brooks again.

What lovely fun! And although Β£270 is not small beans, it sounds like you got massive value. So excellent to be Family Running. I’m a whole generation ahead of you, but totally loved going out with my grandson last summer when he visited from NZ. I was still a very Beginner and he is 6’3” so he could power walk while I β€œran”. 😳. But maybe next time I can try to keep up. 🀣 And meanwhile I shall think of the Slinky family out running with a flamingo. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸŽ‰πŸ‘

Ha ha🀣! I think my son will end up over 6' and I shall be lolopping along after a giraffe like you! How lovely to run with your grandson - I never thought I would ever be a runner 3 years ago, let alone run with my family. πŸ™‚

Winding paths, one step after another. Amazing where running takes us. πŸ’•

Oooh that's great news Slinkimalinki😊 I hope your boy gets the running bug! Good incentive doing it for the Silver D of E award, and with running parents every chance that it becomes a lifetime habit.

I hope you do get good results from your 'interval' running, much more fun than pushing yourself alone.

Good luck, let us know how you are all getting on!

Yes, I'm hoping my flamingo gets the bug - he already swims, mountain bikes and hikes so he's breezed through the first week (whereas I thought I would die during week 1, aged 46 and not particularly fit!). Hope your Achilles is feeling much better? The flamingo has had some tension there so I'm hoping that proper shoes & stretching will help. πŸ™‚ xx

Thanks! He's been inspired by me doing C25K & your fab 10k plan (still on the fridge for me to dip into!). 😁

I got to run with my youngest for the first time at Christmas. Running with family and friends is really special, and the purchase of running shoes for self or family is never expenditure; it is an investment which is more likely than many others to produce a positive return! Hope the family thing keeps going Slinky πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

I agree, it's very special being able to run with family. I definitely view any shoes (or boots) as an investment! I'm hoping comfy shoes will keep him going and the old pair were fit for the bin anyway. πŸ™‚

What a lovely post! How wonderful that you’re running as a family ❀️ PS love your name - we’re more Hairy Maclary in this family but still! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Thanks! It's amazing that I didn't run till 3 years ago, then my husband thought he'd start again after seeing me progress and now the flamingo son! I'd love a Hairy Maclary but we work full time - we enjoy a friend's dog instead πŸ™‚. I had a cat growing up who was a bit of a naughty but loveable Slinky Malinki and we loved the books, hence the name. 😸

Would love to convince my family to run... But actually also often look forward to 'escaping' on a solitary long run πŸ˜‰
