New shoes and a foggy 8k

This country mouse took herself to the big city yesterday (first time in 18 months!) to buy some new trail shoes. Who would have thought two years ago that the only thing to tempt me to hit the shops would be a pair of running shoes - I don't recognise myself 😲😅

After much humming and ha-ing I came away with some worryingly clean looking Brooks Cascadia 16s - lots of lovely space for my tootsie's and sooo much cushioning, my feet won't know themselves, after spending the last year squished into my not-quite-wide-enough ASICS. I had hoped that the shop would be kind enough to do a gait analysis too (for curiosity, as I knew it didn't matter for my trail shoes), but even though I was spending a small fortune they said 'no', they only offer the service for people buying road shoes 😠!

So this morning I took my new shoes for a slightly longer than intended foggy 8k - happy to report no rubbing, but it may take my feet a while to get used to all those cushiony sensations!

Here are my splits: 6.56, 6.37, 6.45, 6.32, 6.45, 6.41, 6.39, 6.13....still getting faster despite my best efforts to slow down 🙄..maybe I can blame the new shoes this time!

Now, bring on the mud, I really need to tone that colour down 😎

Great idea remember a decent sports shop will offer gait analysis probably a video treadmill run, use it and enjoy those new shoes! Remember decent socks

I see some favourable reviews for the 16s. They’re on my wish-list now but I’ll have to wait a little longer as I bought new road shoes in June (and today I’ve just gone and bought a watch!! 😳)

That’s a nice and steady pace you have, over 8k. Like a metronome. 🙂

Whoever said that running was 'free' clearly didn't consider the temptation to buy new kit 😅. I'm looking forward to some bouncy new runs!

That sounds like a great run ..... and shoes look fabulous.

Brooks cascadia love mud 🥰

I got those shoes not long ago Woollyweaver , to replace my Cascadia 15s, and love them. I can also confirm that they love mud!

Not impressed by what you say about the shop's attitude though.

Thank you - good to hear another positive report.I was a bit non-plussed by the attitude of the running shop (a well known specialist store in Cardiff), but I'm afraid I was unlucky with the assistant who asked me if I wanted them for walking - it was hard work getting her attention, even though I turned up with some very worn out trail shoes and had clearly done my research... I shall be going elsewhere next time 🙄

Looking forward to putting my new shoes through their paces though 😁

If you stick with Brooks trail shoes, you may as well purchase direct and online. Free returns or exchange within 90 days - and you can run all you like in them in that 90 day period.

I’m sometimes curious as to whether this is the deal when buying them through a retailer.

I think the trick learnt from your experience is not to mention trail running until after the gait analysis. 😁

Nice shoes, maybe you should have said, ‘well I need some road shoes as well’ then suddenly remember a pressing appointment that won’t allow you to buy more than one pair. Of course, this runs the risk of temptation getting the better of you so that you blow your budget and live on baked beans for the rest of the month, but hey, new shooeees......
