New shoes and sun cream

Good old ebay! 2 years ago I bid on several pairs of reeboks! and won 4 pairs all under £20 each, I was a bit surprised.

Move on a year or so and enter more regular running, a gait analysis, shoes that were never as comfy as my old reeboks, I’m down to 2 pairs, one for work in navy and one to run in dirty white. Both wearing out, I’ve been alternating between my lovely expensive shoes and scruffy old reeboks. A pattern is emerging, I run faster and ache less in reeboks. So of course I bought some Asics because that’s what my sister ran in and I’ve had them before (no logic to that at all)

Browsing ebay I bid on a pair and got home from work yesterday to find them here. They look hardly used and today is run day 😀

We woke at 6.30 and faffed around a while playing with the kitten and drinking tea.

8.30 sees us at the park, fresh and green with plenty of shadow and not many people. Today we agreed to do anything we wanted, so we set off easy and a glance at my watch showed we were faster than expected,

Willow ran a couple of kilometres, I carried on for 3k and so enjoyed running around the park, I could feel i was putting more effort in but could still just about sing along to The greatest showman songs that came through my ear buds.

Splits, 7.42, 8.36 and 8.40. and it felt great, time for home, a glass of water cup of tea and stretch.

A tip! Don’t put sun cream on your face if you are going to run and sweat, oh that stings 😂

Happy run day or happy rest day

Thanks, I knew about the sun cream but my face and shoulders are several shades darker than the rest of me

You seem to do well on eBay bids, well done, I’m not brave enough to do anything than buy new😂. I definitely understand that sunscreen in eye problem - oh how much we wish for summer then are surprised when it throws up issues . Happy running 🤗

Thank you, i’ve bought trainers on ebay for years it goes back to when I couldn’t afford new

Sweat + sunscreen can indeed cause a stingy situation. I have to smear though, sun allergy here. But I also wear a cap then (hat, cap, a thing on your head with a sticking out flappy bit?) and that keeps most of the moisture from my eyes.

So how is the little one doing?

Your brave bidding on eBay! But they look lovely. Just a suggestion. I discovered sport sunscreen last year. It stays put when you sweat plus I’ve just invested in a visor which I tried at the weekend doing a half marathon. It worked to both keep the sweat out of my eyes, screened me from the sun and allowed my head to feel the benefit of the odd little bit of breeze. I’ve been resisting getting one despite my husband’s insistence because my head gets so hot in hats. I should have listened to him 😉😂

Visor sounds perfect

Glad your eBay runners are ok and you got to run in them 😁👍Quite a bargain !

Luckily I didn't need suncream at 05:45 😁

My face and shoulders are really tanned, i’d like the rest of me to catch up, hence factor 50 on my face

Instructor57 profile image

😁👍Unfortunately, I don't tan, I just burn 😢

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toInstructor57

I burn but if I’m careful it goes tanned, all the running has weathered me lol… we won’t talk about Willow he only has to look out the window and has a lovely tan

Good run for both of you today. I couldn’t bid on eBay not brave enough in case I had to return with dodgy feet. Good bargains.Lovely weather your way , lucky you , don’t need the sun cream here back to the cardigan or jumpers a bit chillier. Enjoy the rest of your day😊

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toDoris8

We have rain forecast for next 10 days so wanted to make the most of it today, the thing with reebok’s I know they work for me, I need trainers high enough at sides and back for orthotic insoles and heel lift in one and a lot of trainers just don’t have enough room for all that before even putting my feet in them, so i should never buy anything else really

Well done on your run!🙂

The right shoes are everything! I run in Hoka Arahi 4s and really don’t like the look of the newer Arahi 5’s, so am hunting high and low to buy the worlds surplus stock of the older version! Might have a look on eBay.👍🙂

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toSandraj39

I still can’t believe I run faster in reeboks and slower in shoes that cost over a hundred pounds, don’t get me wrong, they are comfy enough just don’t have the bounce

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10

Well done for your run WillowandSola. I wear sports sun factor on my face as it stays on a bit better and always wear a buff round my wrist which I can dab the sweat with. A running peak cap does help keep you cooler too.

😅

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toDexy5

That’s a good idea for the buff, I wear a cap sometimes but it was in my car and we took Willows car this morning

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate10

Talking about sun cream, I'm going to have to remember to put some on the back of my neck. The cap I wear only protects the top and front of the noggin from the UV rays.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply tonowster

Ha! burnt neck isn’t fun and round the tops of your ears, mine have been sore and crispy on many an occasion

Got to love a bargain!

As I have vitiligo, I HAVE to wear sunscreen. After a lot of trial and error I've found that ultrasun family formula is pleasant to use on my face and never stings, expensive but invaluable.

Good bargain on the shoes! I use Olay moisturiser which is factor 30 😎🌞

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toLottieMW

Hi, I used to use Olay but it changed and started to make my eyes water, I am very careful with creams because of psoriasis but was trying not to let arms and face tan any more until I could help the rest catch up

LottieMW profile image
LottieMWAmbassador in reply toSueAppleRun

Oh what a shame about Olay, I’ve never used anything else but their “Total Effects”. Though I think they did produce a self tanning version, which did make my eyes water.

My arms are brown…and I have a white Fitbit line around my wrist, visible in work when I wear it around my ankle 😂

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toLottieMW

It was a shame because I remember buying my first ever face cream it was Ulay in those days and I was 28 I bought it because my mum wore it, but when things got more scientific all round something was added that didn’t do my eyes any good. I love tan lines, every year waiting for the watch line to appear lol

LottieMW profile image
LottieMWAmbassador in reply toSueAppleRun

Wow….my mum used it too I remember it being Ulay ☺️
