My first park run in 4 months. After completing my 30 minute run with Jo Whiley I thought yes I can do this, took the dog for her 20 minute walk then set off for the 1.7 mile brisk walk to the park.
Feeling confident after that warm up off I go.
Its raining and its blustery I've got my waterproof coat on but I can do this.
No I cant, after 5 mins jogging finished up walking then trying to jog a little then back to walking.
Perhaps I should have put Jo on and listened to her encouraging voice, or is it I just cant do the 30 mins without her.
Anyway regardless of my excuses I completed the course.
Will try again next week.
Happy running everyone

It sounds like you’re being very hard on yourself. The weather was horrible this morning. You did well to get there. You still ran part of it and you completed the course. Some days that’s what we’ve got in us. Another day you’ll be jogging round feeling like you’re flying.
The park run I did I found hard without something to listen to. You could take Jo (or someone else!) with you next time. It can be a bit of a transition to running without the c25k commentary and I struggled at first. You could consider using something else (like the NRC app which I use now) or play music, or a podcast. You’ll get there 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
well done on getting out there, you definitely get loads of brownie points for that and you ran, that’s the main thing. Be kind to yourself and celebrate the positives. 👏👏👏
Well done for getting out and give yourself a break, how many people were still on the couch with good intentions!? I hope you still recorded your time, it's surprising that those walk runs can still have a good average and worth recording. They all count. But I'm sure you know this and we're just hoping for a bit of sympathy! 😉😁
Well done for sticking with it and completing the course. I think an off day now and again only serves to make the better runs feel great!I’m sure your next run will be more enjoyable 🤞.
Oh doggytail , please, please give yourself a break. Never mind whether or not you ran for 30 minutes non-stop, that was your first parkrun in four months, you were moving for 1 hour 23 minutes and you did 8.3km in horrible weather. That doesn't need excuses, that deserves congratulations!
Your previous post (a mere two days ago!) suggests you hadn't run for 30 minutes since September, and your other recent posts indicate that over the past few months you've had loads of stuff to contend with. Your current activity levels might not meet your very high standards, but you're doing really well to get out there at all.
I suspect you'd do even better if you could just be a bit kinder to yourself. Give yourself permission to build back gradually, rather than thinking you have to get back to where you were as soon as possible. I know from personal experience that it's frustrating when you can't do as much as before, but taking things slowly and consistently (absolutely not my strong point, I admit) does pay off over time.
Please give yourself credit for your achievements, and above all, have fun! 🤗
Well done on your perseverance in completing your Park Run, and in such horrible weather! 👏🏼
But gosh…you’ve had a terrible year haven’t you, what with illnesses and moving…and then the house not being right. I’m echoing Cmoi and saying *please* be kind to yourself.
Like Cmoi , I’ve had a little look at your posts and some thoughts have come to mind. Firstly, your post today…you ran or walked or both for 8.3k, and your average pace was 10:00/km! That’s pretty amazing! It may also be part of your problem…
Now, did you get around to downloading the Nike Run Cub (NRC) app? The essence of pretty much all of their guided runs is that most of the running is done at an “easy” pace…which what is advised for all our C25k runners.
I’m sure that when you started your running, you read all the FAQ as advised…which certainly emphasised the importance of a conversational pace! Have you looked at the Japanese Slow Jogging video? More ideas there…
So…drink plenty of water (3-4L), and slow down. Make sure you have rest days too…what gym work are you doing? Remember you’ve been ill too. A *lot* of runners here have been unwell with Covid or this horrible flu…and have found it *really* hard to get back to exercising with that terrible fatigue aftermath.
Have a look at NRC…I can recommend “Just a Run”…it’s a 30 minute guided ‘recovery’ run…with a great discussion about individual pace and effort.
Above all, don’t feel bad about your run…embrace your inner snail, and have fun! 😊🏃🏻♀️🐌
Thank you so much for all your encouragement and I will download NRC and try to do as I am told. I have read the faqs and watched the video, and I will go easy on myself stop drinking the gin and drink more water 😁 x
