Still not running 😐

So, a few people have asked how I am and if I'm feeling better.Thank you .

Basically the answer I'm afraid is no !

Some will know as I have mentioned it before but I have suffered with sinus problems pretty much all of my adult life (And that's quite some time 😐)

This particular episode started on 27th November, the day of Tim's run .

I was sneezing all night long and woke up with a really bad headache.

I have a steroid nasal spray that I hadn't needed for some time so started to use it again and with occasional paracetamol this kept things under control for a couple of weeks, then it started to get worse with constant severe headaches around my forehead and behind my eyes which paracetamol just wouldn't touch , the pressure was unbearable so the Sunday before Christmas I called 111 at 11:50 am , after 1.5 hours on hold the call was picked up by a call handler who took lots of details and told me I would get a call back from a clinician later !

This call came at 8:50 pm !

I was asked all the same questions again and then told a doctor would call me back within the hour.

I did not get that call back.

Monday morning I rang my doctors and managed to get an emergency appointment 2 hours later .

I was examined and given a 6 day course of antibiotics and Codeine to be taken with paracetamol for the pain .

This approach seemed to be working within a few days, then after a couple of days after finishing the antibiotics it started to get worse again .

So today (29th Dec) one month since this flare up started I was on the phone again to the doctor's who have basically doubled the dose of my nasal spray and given me another 5 days of different antibiotics (Phenoxymethylpenicillin)

It's a high dose of 500mg 4x a day !

And a referral to ENT .

So, that's where we are at the moment .

The running unfortunately is of course on hold yet again !

I'm really hoping that I can get running again early into the new year fingers crossed 🀞🀞🀞

I’m sorry to hear that you’re still unwell and you’re needing stronger antibiotics (let’s hope this lot get rid of the sinusitis this time). I’ve suffered with sinusitis for years but not to the extreme you’ve described I really feel for you as it just makes you miserable and is so painful just moving your head πŸ˜’πŸ™πŸ» take care and this situation will be a horrible little memory before long 🀞🏻

Unfortunately it seems to have got worse as I have got older .Maybe no escaping the op this time .

If you need it I hope it’s sooner rather than later to give you some relief - I’ve never taken so many painkillers as I have this last month - hoping your appt comes quickly and until then, take care πŸ™πŸ»

Sinus issues are utterly miserable. Sending masses of sympathy your way. Rest up and the runs will be back when you’re ready. Really hope that ENT referral comes quickly and it’s not too long before you are better ❀️

I had persistent sinus problems for many years. Flying in an unpressurised turboprop plane was sometimes an excruciating experience.

After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing I eventually had FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery) to open up my "lobster pot" of a sinus fifteen years ago. It made an improvement but hasn't totally stopped the occasional flare-up (usually fixable with paracetamol).

Yes, I certainly remember the pain when descending in an aircraft, as you say , excruciating!I guess I may need to go down the operation route this time !

I've been wondering how you were Ian. That sounds really dreadful. I hope the higher dosage starts to make some inroads and you can get some relief from those horrid symptoms. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for that ENT referral Take care πŸ€—

Sinusitis is so horrible and being on codeine isn't much fun either. Getting the ENT specialists to look into this seems sensible and I hope you get an appointment soon. I hope you're managing to get out for walks when you can. Sending you my very best wishes!

I have just noticed this morning that my battery watch stopped during the evening yesterday, first thing this morning I am going to see if I can get a new battery, if not perhaps a new watch.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

I'm sure sourcing a new battery shouldn't be to much of a problem 🀞

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply toInstructor57

New battery now in watch, ready for parkrun tomorrow, I thought I might have to buy a new watch but the man who put the new battery in it told me that my watch was of high standard so I didn't need to buy a new one.

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

Which watch? I know that getting into the guts of some modern Garmins can be extremely fiddly.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply tonowster

Hi Nowster, I have had my present high quality watch for 6 years, I bought it in 2016 before I started C25K, the previous watch was digital and the instructions on it said it was programed to December 2099, as it was it only lasted 3 years before stopping for good. The analogue watch I now have has lasted much longer, this morning was only the 3rd battery for renewal since I bought it 6 years ago.

so sorry to hear that the sinusitis monster is upon you. I know how painful it is to do simple things like tie one’s shoelaces. I really hope it clears up. Have you ever tried a netipot? You use it to run a saline solution through the sinus cavities. Probably not appropriate for the moment as your sinuses are already inflamed but perhaps an idea for prevention next time?

Get well soon!

It’s great to hear from you - I have been thinking about you and wondering how you were but I didn’t want to pry too much. I really hope a visit to the ENT can help you out as you must have been pretty miserable and in a lot of pain which is just horrible. I really hope you can get back to running when you can.

This end I have restarted C25K - did the first run this morning which was actually harder than I imagined! The stop start nature of it meant I never really got my breathing quite right. We’re always learning eh?! Too many niggles and an injury made me finally realise I couldn’t carry on as I was. I had no idea what to wear either plus I felt really conspicuous 🀣.

Anyway Ian, best of luck with everything and as wise people say, the runs will wait.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10β€’ in reply toFrenc

Hi Kate ,Thank you !

And good to hear from you too 😊

Oh, so you have restarted !

tbh I will see how my first run goes and then decide how to play it ... Maybe re start also , we shall see .

Haha I wonder why you felt conspicuous again after all your running 🀣

I'll sure you will be fine .. hope it goes well and thank you for your message, I appreciate it 😊

Frenc profile image
FrencGraduate1060minGraduateβ€’ in reply toInstructor57

I think feeling conspicuous also had more to do with wearing this rather weird top I got for Christmas. I stuck out like a sore thumb! Onwards and upwards Ian, onwards and upwards πŸ‘πŸ˜.
