🧘🏽I had a wonderful morning. First on was Yoga with Adriene and more than 50 of us on HU following the 30 day BREATH series!!!!! (Still time to join us 😉💪)
🏃♀️And I had put on my running gear ahead of yoga (sans shoes) ready to go right after, which I did. A lovely foggy 5k run, where my bounce arrived even earlier than usual as my limbs were all warmed up and flexy from Yoga.
But I’m beginning to have a conundrum.
🚣During my running break due to icy conditions I started rowing indoors and made good progress on my English Channel Conqueror Challenge, which I use only for rowing.
🏃🏾♀️And whilst I was rowing through the ice break, my runs contributing to my Hadrian’s Wall Conqueror challenge were on hold.
🏃🏾♀️🧘🏽🚣😴So now the weather is improving again, how do I do both? Is it too much if in a week :
- I run 3 times
- I row 3 times
- I do Yoga 7 times
- And only 1 day of rest, with exception of yoga
🦵Is that advised or should I give my legs more off-days?
🧐Any experience from others, and especially from runner-rowers, would be greatly appreciated.
📚Thoughts, ideas, concerns I should be aware of?

Read your body, it will let you know what it can cope with. Through December and January I've been out on long walks 8k plus on non run days. A year ago I would have needed rest days. You could try short run and short row to see how it goes, you dont need to be setting records on speed or distance. Happy exercise 🤗
Be a runner who rows? Keep up your 3 runs...short, medium, long. Maybe pencil in x1 rowing session per week, plus on bad weather days you can row instead as well.
...but it’s really how *you* feel.
I only started running the beginning of August, although I’d been walking 2 miles 3 or 4 times a week since February. I ran 6 km today (1st time) today, and feel knackered...so I’m in 2 minds about 36 minutes of yoga tonight.
However...your stamina is probably better than mine...so 🤷🏻♀️
Yes. That’s good. Maybe I can tell myself one row per week, and after that I exchange if I really don’t want to run. Might happen not often but once in a while.
Thank you, all these comments are really helping me to decide. 🙏👍🏽✔️
🤣🤣 I assure you, I run ultra slow, I need all sorts of props for yoga and my short 20min rowing sessions are also nothing to shout out about. But I do feel a bit proud of myself doing these.
For me a days rest incorporated would be kind for yourself and rather than choosing which exercise, why not set time limits for each exercise each day - something like ...Day 1 15 min interval run, 20 min row + yoga
Day 2 20 min row + yoga
Day 3 20 min run, 15 min interval row + yoga
Day 4 rest ( or just stretchy moves of yoga)
Day 5 30 min run + yoga
Day 6 15 min interval run, 20 min row + yoga
Day 7 longish slow run - whatever distance/time suits you + good stretchy yoga moves
Hmm ... might try this plan myself except for me it would be X - trainer / run / tai chi - don’t have rower 😟and prefer tai chi to yoga - just love the balance side of it.
I will start on Monday and report back ...
Good luck with whatever you decide to do and take care not to overdo it ❤️
Yeah, I think I need to firmly remind myself that rest days are not negotiable. (I find myself sometimes wanting to run 4 times per week, as the days sometimes fall that way. But this means that there is ever only 1 day recuperation, rather than 2 days once per week.) . Thx for the reminder. I need that.
Hi CBDB! I’m a bit late to this party, but thought I might contribute a couple of thoughts. 1) I sometimes use a relatively gentle row - level 4 resistance on my rower & 18-20 spm - as a warmup before other activity, so that might slot into your scheduling. And 2) if you are newly doing a lot of rowing, do watch for funny twinges. I developed a slightly dodgy wrist, which I traced to repetitive movements on the rower. I adjusted my grip & am now alert and it’s largely gone away. But .... it’s worth being careful. 😊Happy exercising!
🤣🤣 it sounds more than it is. I think Adriene is easy on us Yoga newbies, I am taking it easy on my rowing. So my biggest effort and achievement is still by far the running.
