Good morning all, we woke early and decided to go off for a run it being my day off

Yesterday evening i was wondering if we would benefit for following a plan again so clicked on the garmin 10k plan

I was very disappointed to see that the first run is a 9 minute benchmark run but once started follow i must so we walked 2 minutes ran 7 minutes and knowing it would be short went off too fast so we were soon puffing and panting and wondering if we could do this, phew 2 minute walk and back towards the car, now what? that was too short so let’s walk to the beach, Willow sat on a rock and i jogged along the stones really slowly as i didn’t want to trip

Together we walked back round the lake and came home feeling vaguely unsatisfied, but on Thursday is the second run of the plan and it’s called easy run so we will see if we can stick to it

Happy running all

Hoping Thursday goes better, but least you were out! I did something similar with Nike and the first day was a rest day which was daft so deleted it and trotted out for a usual pootle round my estate.....not as many beautiful scenery options do close to home for me.

Well an almost 1k run and a bit over 3k walk was ok, i tend to push for 5k at least twice a week but aren’t improving so thought a plan might work, lol at your day 1 a rest day, i’m ruled a bit by work days and whether i have the energy after work

So many of them have a rest day as the first day - it’s insane!

After being used to longer runs I can understand why this felt short change for you. But Garmin must have w reason for this, hopefully all will be revealed. Happy running 🤗

Thanks either that or we will go back to doing our own thing

I know how you feel about that garmin first run, I started the Garmin coach to try to increase my 5k time, but found it all to confusing ☹️I think it was because I'd only just got the watch so really didn't understand it! I'll be interested to see how it works for you. Sounds a lovely run / walk though. Have fun x

It was nice thanks and now i want to lay in the sun to see if i can catch my torso up to the colour of my arms and legs, why is it so unfair? Willow did a days fishing and took his tee shirt off so is a lovely colour but I can’t very well wander around in public with no top on i’d get arrested 😂

You should do juju’s magic plan in the pinned posts 👍🏽

Started it in the cold and dark of winter, might have another go if this one doesn’t pan out

I say stick with it and see how it progresses, if you don't like it then like you say, you can always revert back to doing your own thing or find another plan to try. Either way, you're running and that's the main thing, right?! :-)

Yes as long as we run i’m happy

I do like to have a plan to follow, sometimes at the beginning of them it’s a bit hard to see why you’re doing particular things. Hang on in there.

Just on my way back from Worthing Hospital, via the coast road; there were several runners on the path right beside the beach, and I did think of you guys 👍

Clips are out, wound looks clean and no infection. Still not allowed to weight bear at all.

Have to go back I 5 weeks, hopefully physio will have started by then (or at least be arranged)

I’ve just finished a 5k plan using Garmin coach. The benchmark is important because it uses that to set pace etc for future runs.

The plans definitely build and I found I had to run for more than 5k on a lot of the runs later on.

I always carried on running to get to 5k - when you get to workout complete you can hit the lap button to carry on and it still records it for Garmin coach.

I liked the drills because it broke up my runs and gave them each a different focus. The speed ones I found the hardest - didn’t think I’d ever be able to run at the pace it wanted.

You also get little bits to read or watch at least once a week, which was good.

After feeling like I wasn’t getting any faster, I all of a sudden improved and overall I knocked 5 mins of my 5k PB in 13/14 weeks.

I’m going to try a 10K plan next.

I would say you need to give it at least 2 or 3 weeks for it to go through all the different run types involved.

Hope this helps 😊

Thank you that’s really helpful, now I will stick with it for a while anyway, it’s good to hear of someone who has followed Garmin coach

I've been away on holiday and have been doing exercises in the pool. I still feel sore but am going to try and get to see my physio to see if he thinks the ankle is ok. I feel I could start to venture out again but just want to get a professional opinion to make sure. Thanks for asking 🙂

Well done WillowandSola!! 🙌🏽

I have a 50 mtr run next on my plan! 🤪😬! I can’t get my head around it being worth getting dressed for that one, but hey, I’ll be doing it! I’ll just do my exercises too on that same day. The aim is just to keep going and get back to regular running!!

Hope your plan picks up soon. I know my app makes some adjustments as you go along, but I don’t have a Garmin. Could it be the same? 🤩❤️

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Fabulous450

50mtrs? you can sprint that and then walk back

We’ve done a lot of walking today and slept after dinner for a while 😂

Fabulous450 profile image
Fabulous450Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

It has to be a sprint...surely!! Otherwise...🤪🤪! Now there are short runs and there’s... SHORT runs! That’s like a run for the bus! 🚌😂😂❤️

I think all the plans start with that run... and it’s inferred that you’re supposed to run it too fast (says something about walking if you need to) the data from that short run will help them see what paces you’re capable of. Now you’re into the fun of the plan... I’m on week 6 of 17 and not seen a benchmark again so far 😎

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to UnfitNoMore

That’s good news, I’m a bit disappointed though because i did a benchmark run back in january when i first got my garmin and it was a little faster than yesterday’s, I suppose being a stone heavier doesn’t help, I will be jolly glad hen my weight stops going up

Very interested to hear about your Garmin running coach Willow andSola, so I did some investigating.

Thought so, it’s not available on my forerunner 35.

So I will just stick to juju’s magic plan when I finally get on the road again, but will watch your progress with interest. Which coach are you using?

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate

Coach Amy, I haven’t listened to the video yet so i better do that today it being a rest day it might explain things a bit

Funnily enough I was going to do a Garmin plan as well but because of the short duration I've shelved it until I finish the Magic Plan. Will be interested to hear how it goes!
