Wishing you all the best for whatever you can do, whenever you can do it. I know you love running and will give to it, and the runners in this community, and derive as much from it, as you can.
That was a nice run for you today Ian, 5 weeks off running, perhaps you could repeat some of the earlier weeks of C25K before going onto run non stop longer runs, IannodaTruffe advises runners who have been off running for more than 3 weeks to repeat some of the earlier weeks of C25K. 😊 🏃🏾 👍
I am in the same boat as you. I feel as though I’m starting from scratch all over again. Back in July I was running 15K and training for a half marathon. Then I got sick which took about 6 weeks before I could run again. I was just about getting back and then I had a 3 week break. I have also gained a few extra unwanted pounds in weight. So I, like you am walking/running and bit by bit building it back up again. We will both get back there and 2023 will be a great running year.
Good to break the streak of not running so you’re now a runner who ran today instead of five weeks ago. Really good luck building back up again. Hopefully it will come back easier than you expect. 🤞
Hey Instructor57 ! A run is a run and you will get back to your fitness in no time at all! I’ve started my 10ktraining plan for my race next year and it’s all down to your great advice ,which was just what I needed at the time…….So you are going to be just fine👍😀😀
A big thank you Ian for inspiring me to get out. Having read your post yesterday I decided to get my man tights out the drawer and get out the front door.
I had a very slow 5k with another absent friend in the form of Coach Bennett.
So you got me out the door and CB helped me manage my run 🏃♀️
I find it so easy to fall into the trap of getting in my car, driving all day and then climbing onto
the couch. Yesterday's "step count" amounted to 453. That genuinely made me ashamed of myself.
Glad to hear you're back at it - that's the main thing and the rest will follow. I'm very envious, if that helps?! 😂 Totally understand your frustration though.
Thanks for your post Instuctor 57, just what I needed. I find myself in a similar situation! Plagued with injuries since Christmas morning last year. I started four years ago at the age of 72. And last year had been my best year, practically injury free, best 5K time, 10miles for my 75th, really enjoying it and chasing the elusive sub30. It’s been down hill since then. I’ve restarted several times this year, but after reading your post I think I’m doing it all wrong 😱. Each time I start by doing gentle 3k walks for a week, some occasional cross training, or short slow treadmill runs. Then like last week after being off for a month, two 3k runs(24mins) and last Saturday a 5K (37mins) felt fine, really good! Next day, whilst in the green house no warning my knee”went” a reoccurring injury for over three months, but never in the same area. I do exercises that the physio gave me and assured me that there is no serious injury or need for an X- Ray. Obviously, after reading your account, I should be taking it slower, “jeffing” too , and not trying to get back to reasonable 5K times!! I promised myself a Half marathon this year, but that’s not going to happen, but thanks to you, and some common sense( not so common) I might get there next year. Well done to you for getting back out there, Together we will succeed!! Thank you very much🤗
Thank you, it is my goal too to get back to running three times a week, and as you say when , and as long as it takes 🤗, you take care too , I try to read HU most days and will certainly follow your progress 🤓
Great sincere, honest update. I reckon the mark of a big runner is someone who can say it’s not been going well recently, when there are all sorts of reasons behind the scenes for a big setback and the most recent run is that much shorter and harder than the ones that had been on track before the setback. It takes guts to come back, and even more to tell everyone you’re doing it. What a great example of tenacity.
I feel your pain! I have had a series of injuries over the summer, and haven’t been able to run. I went for a very slow shuffle yesterday , and managed 2k. I felt dead chuffed to be back ‘out there’! A slow run, is still a run in my book!
