what a morning!!

after having had a few struggles recently with my running I set out today with some trepidation. But it was a lovely run!!! Little bit drizzly but I dont mind that and not too hot, again my sort of temperature, and I managed to run for 20 continuous minutes with no real effort. I thought I was keeping my speed down which helped bit actually when I checked after uploading I realised I was pretty much up to my better speeds. The last two sections were just under 5 mins and just over 7 with 1 minute walks between and I covered just over 4k so I’m quite happy with that.

I was hoping to spot my friend Louise Butcher on my run, who was doing her Virtual London Marathon this morning - from Braunton to Instow and back again. But she was so speedy she had gone past when I got to where I’d said I’d look out for her. She did it in just under 4 1/2 hours which is amazing considering she had a double mastectomy 8 weeks ago and finished her radiotherapy 6 weeks ago!!!

She is running to raise awareness for Lobular Breast Cancer, which is what she had, which is a rarer form and was missed by her mammogram earlier this year!!! Some people are so inspirational aren’t they???

And she managed to clock up loads of PBs on the way.

I don’t think I’ll ever do a full marathon but after this morning I’m considering training for another HM….. we’ll see ….

happy running 😬

That sounds like such a brilliant run! Really well done with your pace. It’s so nice when you hit that groove and you feel like you can keep going for ages. I’ve had that same experience where it’s felt slow because it’s seemed so good and then looked to find it’s not at all! Take that feeling into your next run.

I’ve been following the NRC HM plan and loving it. If you decide to go for a HM, I’d definitely recommend that. It’s flexible and not scary which is what I really wanted! The training has hugely improved my 5k and 10k runs too as a bonus.

Your friend sounds like an amazing inspiration. Massive well done to her today. It’s such a privilege to have people like that in your life. Wishing her a full recovery from her cancer. ❤️

yeah I’m still not sure about another HM but I might still take a look at the training plan and see if I can do some of it ..

I was only ever going to try to get to 5k….. then I accidentally did 7k one morning ( I’d forgotten id changed to miles in my Garmin watch and kept thinking” well this is taking a long time !!! “.. …. Then I went for 10k and then that felt easier and I was doing 10 k every week and then I just sort of went from there but I DO think I did it too quickly and should have built up more slowly. We’ll see 😁

It is funny how sometimes when we expect a run to be hard our bodies surprise us, it sounds like that's what happened for you today.

And your friend sounds like an absolutely amazingly inspirational and determined woman.
