What a day!!

I didn’t run over the weekend due to spending a lovely day out with Levi, eldest son, shopping and lunching ( his birthday ) on Saturday and a not quite as lovely but necessary day yesterday with Rudi, younger son, doing odd DIY jobs round the house and cooking roast dinner. Bless him!! I have just realised I burnt my poking finger when we were hot gluing sisal in our Cat tree repairs. Not too painful - just conscious of it.

So this morning when I was awoken by the gentle clattering is the binmen outside I lay for a minute stretching to check if anything was sore enough not to run and then decided I was ok and got up. I dressed in my running gear being more than a little excited by wearing my new sports bra today. I have 2 others I bought last year, same style and same colour ( they are the only ones I have found that keep my wayward bosoms in check when I run) and I finally found another, same style DIFFERENT colour, in my size so treated myself ( early birthday present to me😜).

Once downstairs I drank my glass of water, cursed when I realised I’d eaten the last banana yesterday, found my headphones and set the podcast ready, did my inhalers and out the door I went. I set off with my brisk walk, pressed the button on my Bluetooth headphones to start the podcast and it said “ ringing Anne Stewart “. NOOOO!!! Not at 7.00am !!!

I quickly stopped it and fiddled about and after pressing the button several more times the podcast started. Never had that happen before and I nearly turned round and went home then. But I didn’t ... had it in my head to do 5k so I’d picked the old Week 9 C25k podcast and it was quite soothing running to those tunes to start with. Then my right foot started feeling uncomfortable underneath so I hit pause and did a bit more stretching and carried on. Then my left ankle was sore ( it keeps getting sore in the front where the door joins the shin but I’ve done lots of stretches and massage ) but I decided I’d keep going but not to push the speed.

I ran down towards the Swing Bridge as, when we went for a walk at weekend it looked clear again, but as I got up to it I saw they are working on it again and it was closed so I turned and ran upwards beside the river instead and headed along towards Taw Parade and the Square. Then I cut back across the back of the town and finally started towards home. By this time I’d got stitch too and was really regretting opening my eyes this morning ☹️🤣

So I finally did my 30 minutes.

It wasn’t a great run.

It wasn’t a fast run

And was only 3.62k BUT I didn’t quit!!!

Got in, fed the cats and went up for a shower and came down looking forward to my breakfast and walked into the dining room where my youngest kitten (11 month old Roma) was just finishing up a bird IN FRONT Of the still half-full food bowls while my fluffy baby ( 1 year old Luna) was playing throw and catch with the bird’s head!!!

Sort of lost my appetite after clearing that lot up. But I had my breakfast and then got myself ready for my dentist pre-crown drilling appointment 😫. I decided to walk and then when I went to take my usual shortcut through ( which I’ve used for over 50 years) I get to the bottom to find a brand new 8 foot high metal gate blocking the way so I ended up sprinting back the way I’d came, round the corner and up two more streets, ringing the receptionist on the way to say I’d be a couple minutes late. She said that’s fine. And the rest of it was ok-ish except the first mould had an air bubble so we had to repeat the process

And when I got in I was greeted by Roma running in through the catflap with ANOTHER bird in her mouth. Managed to shoo her out luckily

But what a day!!! I’m worn out and it’s only lunchtime!!

Brilliant post. Love the detail. My cat used to catch the occasional bird or mouse. But it’s difficult to stay cross when that’s what they are designed to do.

Good run for you today Limberlou, I laughed my head off regarding your cat Roma coming through the catflap with another bird in her mouth, I have saved several small mice from the mouth of my cat, she gets the mice from somewhere in the garden, brings them to me and I immediately shout at her to 'let go' the small mouse then runs away thankful that I saved it's life.

Oh, errr, ... Day of Surprises doesn’t quite express the mood, does it? 🤔 Sometimes the unexpected is lovely, but sometimes not so much.

Still, you did keep going and not only for the run. Such determination must indicate a fine character I think ... or at least a good persevering (stubborn) streak. 😄 Dismembered birds before breakfast might even be less appealing than dental drilling....

Still, all that out of the way so no bad things left to haunt tomorrow. 😊🎉 Thanks for the fun report. 👏🏼

I had to save a cat from the mouth of my dogs in my own garden. Poor thing, it survived but lord knows how. I was praying it wouldn't die lol. I know in my head that dogs chase cats but actually seeing them catch one is something else entirely. And of course it was Easter Monday so it cost me a fortune in emergency vet call out. *sigh*

Anyway, well done for sticking with your run, even though you weren't feeling it

Oh my how awful!!! There’s a man with a greyhound, who walks it past my house every day, and I always worry it will go after one of mine. Oh and it’s always out of hours when you need a vets isn’t i? Just like kids and doctors

Mine are muzzled outside for exactly that reason. They are angels with people, putting up with all sorts of pulling around and fussing, but mine have a high prey drive, especially the male. They were trained as racers so their prey drive was used to train them :( This was in my back garden though, I don't muzzle them around the house normally. If he walks the dog without a muzzle, I expect that it doesn't have that high a prey drive, I know I couldn't do it with mine, the male has had 2 hedgehogs, 1 magpie and a cat so far. All survived except the magpie. Luckily he was trained to catch and not to kill.

Trouble is our kittens absolutely loved a toy mouse from day one ( and they were both rescue kittens)but strangely the biggest Hunter is my daughter’s one, Roma, came from an overcrowded house( about 80 cats/kittens). My one is the one that was brought up in the wild (4 months old and found with her mum and siblings running wild in the grounds of Heligan).

Little Roma has grabbed her mouse and growled fiercely at anyone near since she was tiny. She doesn’t share if she can help it. I suppose due to having to compete for anything with all the others. But she does bring her toy mouse to me to throw for her so I suppose I’ve taught her to catch things. My other 3 all spoil her anyway , they seem to baby her ...maybe as she is tiny compared to them and shows no signs of getting any bigger now. Whereas Luna, my Heligan beastie, is very gentle and will share happily.
