Yesterday I ran a 10K at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. My first ever 10k and my first ever run with other people π± I was so nervous, it seemed that everyone else was a 'proper runner' and looked so calm and organised. Honestly, I've never met a more friendly bunch of people, both runners and marshalls. I held the mantra of the wise and inspirational Oldfloss in my head, put myself nearer the back and went off slow and steady π I kept telling myself that it was just another run as usual but I get to see lions (asleep), tigers (asleep), polar bears (scoffing breakfast) and giraffes etc! So maybe not quite my usual run π Jeffed it round, apart from the first 1.5k and the last 1k, and I think this will be how I continue to approach my longer runs. I'll keep chipping away at my straight run distance (currently at 6k) and keep doing shorter runs with a bit of hill work.
Thank you to you all on these forums for your motivation and sharing your experience and expertise. It really makes a massive difference to people taking up this wonderful running malarkey π
The event supported the YWP Foundation and their chosen animal to support was the Lowland Tapir. So the medal is awesome π

Just imagine if the lions and tigers hadn't have been asleep - you mightn't have wanted to jeff any parts of the run, but do them at a sprint instead!! That sounds like a great first event to run at, any 'normal' one is going to seem very dull by comparison! And a fab medal too, very different from the usual.
Haha PBs all round I would think!! π€£ The hyenas were very interested in the runners and it did make me wonder if they thought we were the human equivalent of Yo! Sushi!! ππ
