Last night was to be my 9K run on Juju-s magic plan. As usual the first 3km felt like wading through treacle then around 5K I hit my stride. It was now raining and starting to get properly dark. Best switch route. 8K felt great, properly running -my legs knew what they were doing and my arms were getting involved too. Told myself I would see how I felt at 9K. Kept going! As I hadn't run that far before and it was now properly dark I was struggling to find straight-ish sections of pavement and had no idea how much further I had to go to make 10K. Then suddenly Strava bloke was telling me I had done 9.5 and then 10K. I can't quite believe that I did it.
Walked home and suddenly realised quite how heavily it was raining.
Feel OK today apart from a twinge in an old knee injury.
Bit bemused as to what to do next, I've a race on 4th November so presumably I keep at the last week of the plan until then?
Enjoy your running everyone!

Brilliant! It's a wonderful feeling, that first 10k. You need to ask for your badge now. There's a pinned post on the right somewhere. Regarding the knee, I have an old injury to mine as well and always run with it supported. It's worth considering. if I don't, the knee lets me know it's there. i use this: amzn.to/2OrNhaz
It doesn't roll down or up, it breathes even in hot wether, it is lightweight and pretty much invisible under leggings, and it does the job really well.
thanks for taking the time to post this Flick, this is really helpful. I did have a support but it got lost in various house moves and I think I should start wearing one if I am going to keep up with this running lark longer term.
That's amazing Jeff - well done! It's weird how it takes you further than you thought possible isn't it? I did 9k yesterday morning and hoping to reach the magic 10 in the next couple of weeks. Your post will inspire me to push that little bit further!
sorry thought I'd replied to this earlier! A nice lady at park run the other week told me that once you've done 7K it's just mind over matter. You're nearly there!
Bet you’re super proud of yourself. I know how I felt after completing my first 6k last week, and I’ll be off the scale excited when I eventually hit 10k!
Thanks Dexy, I have to admit that I enjoy running in the dark and rain (just as well with winter on the way!). I wish I knew the answer to your question, I guess it's the gremlins nibbling at our self-confidence!
Jeffbird that’s an amazing inspiring post to read. I know what you mean about wading through treacle when you first run, how do we get over this bit which I hate?. Well done, I reached 10k over a month ago, raced one the other week and have another race this month. I’m up to running 12k now, keep going but watch the knee injury. Brill work.
