Yesterday the wise and wonderful daughter pointed out that I had a window of time between waking up in pain, taking the pills and feeling lethargic and miserable for most of the rest of the day and that was when I must run….. I do love her, slightly more than the cat that swipes my ankles on the way past or tries to bite the hand that feeds him if I dare to stroke him…..
Anyway, so this morning up I got, looked at the array of pills while the kettle was on, decided the pain was bearable so took one and left the one that makes me sleepy.
Drank tea dressed, out the door. Warm up walk …..and run!
Slow gentle in the morning sun, decide to turn left, head for the village, joggle along I can hear my breathing over the music and zombie chatter, slow down keep going….
Over the railway line and head south, past Asda, should pop in and buy cat food…. could do that and walk home, nah I’m one kilometre in keep going.
Sun is shining, warm on bare shoulders, how do I feel? absolutely fabulous.
Pass some older guys sitting outside the coffee shop “keep going they call out” so I smile and do just that.
Take a right, this is the road that leads to the sea, past my daughters house…. I could always knock on the door play with the dog and beg a lift home….. nah 2k run and keep going.
A minor miracle reach the seafront and there’s a gap in the traffic so sprint across and watch the sun glinting off the sea as I run on. I’m passed but a guy who says hi and well done, he’s wearing a hydration vest, pure muscle, looks like he’s on a good long run, speed up a bit but can’t keep up so keep going,
Decisions, carry on towards next town or cross road and head for home? Traffic lights are red so I cross, whoops lights go green engines rev and I sprint like mad across the road and laugh!
Slowing down now, steady run home, looking at daffodils and tulips in front gardens, trees full of blossom, turn right and a few minutes left and I’m running along our close, not quite 5k so keep going, through the gap into the park where there’s a football match going on, round the fenced off newly planted trees and back out the park again 5k whoop whoop.
In doors, put kettle on and STRETCH
Oh my goodness that was amazing 😻 V02max not so happy. That run aged me a year but who cares? 54 minutes pure joy
Didn’t stop to take a picture so here’s my route
Happy Sunday all my great VRB’s enjoy whether you are running or resting.

Hope you realise how infectious your happy posts are. The pure joy just oozes and lifts my spirits. It’s so nice to hear you feeling better and wanting to do some jogging. I’m sat here smiling with you. I’m stuck indoors with covid for the second time just as I’d got back into running again.
Fantastic! Your daughter sounds like a wise woman 😊, I’m so pleased you got out there. I find the smallest interaction during a run is so nice, so having the coffee guys and Mr. Muscle en route sounds fab. Well done you! 🌼🌸🌺
Yup that’s the green bits and that little red bit, I’m keeping it very slow and steady at the moment but if i carry on like this i will be back at work in no time, Tomorrow I will get up and run 20 minutes and if my legs ache i will walk it 😀
Ah, well done Sola. So very chuffed for you! Codeine is absolutely horrible isn't it - a horrible necessity sometimes, but such a relief when you can get by without it. You take care 💐
I have other pills too but they seem to be managing the pain enough for now. Thank you, i’m chuffed, but lunch out, bread making and cooking dinner I’m flagging now
Thanks cheekychipmunks, just by leaving out the codeine I suddenly feel like me again, and the pain not bad so am very happy. Went out for lunch after with daughter who said “you don’t look ill, aren’t you supposed to be pale?” I replied, try looking pale after running 5k. As no more tests and surgeon off sick I’m talking to GP tomorrow and see if i can get back to work soon, meantime I will run and walk
What a great post WillowandSola looks like you had a great run, I think I would have stopped by and knocked on the door of daughter and pulled her out to join in or better still wake her up haha Well done and Happy Monday.
She really is and yes it was and because I’ve run so little lately I wasn’t at all bothered that most people could walk in that time, it’s a base line for regaining fitness
I reckon your daughter is onto something there Sola. No matter what our circumstances, I expect most of us have a better day if we get up and do something first thing, before life takes over. Well done on your run.
