60 minute run ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

I wasnโ€™t sure how long I wanted to run for this morning, but Iโ€™d already done a 3K run earlier in the week. So I wanted a longer run. Maybe Iโ€™ll do a 45 minute run.

It wasnโ€™t a beautiful morning; in fact, I left the house to that โ€˜almostโ€™ drizzle, but it wasnโ€™t cold. I decided to listen to some music. I wanted to do a Zone 3 run (as most of my longer runs are) and thought I thought I would sing along to Santana to keep my running at โ€˜easy conversational paceโ€™ ๐Ÿ˜Š

I walk uphill to the park and start my watch, walking briskly for the first 90 seconds then break into a slow jog. I notice my heart rate has gone into Zone 4, so I backed off a bit more until it dropped, surprisingly into Zone 2 for a while.

I follow my route round and stop looking at my watch. Iโ€™m now starting the 4th km and psyching myself up for the Demon Hill. I focus on the road ahead and realised Iโ€™ve gone past the turning. Or have I? A few seconds of indecision and I turn back. Too busy singing ๐Ÿ˜‚. Now Iโ€™m on the right road. Oh yes! I shorten my stride and plod up the hill. At the steepest part, just before the traffic lights I think โ€œOne day, this is going to get easier. Maybe even today!โ€ Well, no. It wasnโ€™t today! But I didnโ€™t stop. I crest the hill carrying on at a similar pace. Funny how the stats donโ€™t reflect my struggle. Probably because itโ€™s downhill after the traffic lights!

I run round the little park and get to 5K. I decide Iโ€™m not finished yet, so carry on through the underpass and the long way home. 6.5K done and 60 minutes slow running, mostly in Zones 2/3. Quite happy with that!

Iโ€™m sure it will, Al! Although I enjoyed the run, I didnโ€™t reward myself with an ice cream! I enjoy them more in the sunny weather ๐Ÿ˜‚

You deserved a ice cream Julia for that run, yesterday afternoon after my parkrun in the morning I was in the garden eating a ice cream in the warm sunshine, this morning after a 17K ๐Ÿšฒ bike ride I had another ice cream, remember there are 4 in a packet, so one more is left before I get another packet on Tuesday morning with the rest of my weekly shopping, I will eat the 4th one tomorrow evening after I have my weeky fish supper. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you, Ian. I didnโ€™t have time to run for longer this morning! I donโ€™t think Iโ€™m dreading the hill as much as I did. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Well done! I find that my longer runs are now concentrating in HR zones 2 and 3 too. This is a great sign.

And hills are always a challenge, but a challenge worth doing.

Thanks! Donโ€™t really have a lot of choice with the hills but realise I need to get used to them. Think I need to find a circular run route for longer runs. Doubling up gets a bit boring!

Strava and/or Garmin's course planning feature can help with that. Or use plotaroute.com

Iโ€™d forgotten about plot a route, Iโ€™ve used it before, thanks.

Sounds great! I'm not sure that running is ever 'easy', but nevertheless, we love if!

If I find that โ€˜sweet spotโ€™ pace it does seem easy for a while ๐Ÿ˜Š, but what generally happens is I look at my watch and try and speed up!

Donโ€™t get one until you are sure you need one! 100% sure ๐Ÿ˜‚
