Willow has a sore back, it’s my day off and the paths are slippery, I’m sat in bed reading a funny book, Willow runs a bath and after a soak and pain pills sets about enjoying his day
By this point I’ve got as far as dressing and trying to be determined to go whatever I’ve just worked 7 of the last 8 days I had my vaccine on Tuesday and had a couple of tired headachy days so really wanted to run
Walking out the door with no plan in mind.... to the end of the road and turn right, start a slow jog keenly watching the pavements for icy puddles,
On to the main road and over the railway bridge warming up nicely
I hadn’t a clue what I was listening to, I thought it was 50 classic rock songs but I did wonder when Run through the jungle came on then a little later Running on empty and later still Born to run made me realise I had chosen Rock for running instead,
Park on the right which looked busy, so decision to make, straight on to the sea front or left round the industrial estate, sea front will be busy so left I went, not many people here so I plod on slow and steady watching out for icy spots and enjoying myself 3k run so far
turn into the sun, now my glasses that go really dark in the sun are fabulous for laying on the beach reading a book but for running into the sun they are rubbish, couldn’t see a thing and every time there was a person to pass i pulled my buff up over my face and said glasses steamed right up which made it even worse so i took them off
The world is a strange place without glasses I squinted and closed one eye trying to make sense of my double vision
Now I’m heading towards the sea front and still feeling great, made the decision not to cross the road as it’s busy on the other side when a huge gap in traffic presented itself, over the road i sprint and onto the stones, and there it was, silver and flat and glinting in the sun.... with a strip of puddly sand between stones and sea, I just couldn’t resist so i scrambled down the steep stony banks and ran on sand , all my dreams have come true 😀
Now the sand isn’t as flat as it looks , there are slippery stony patches and puddles so water seeped into my trainers which was nice and cooling, I ran towards the distant pier across the sand and thought to myself this is why i run, then what looked like a river that I splashed across before deciding it was getting too busy with people enjoying the sunshine so i scrambled up the beach across the road and head for home, as I passed the turning for home though 8k clicked over so on I ran slower and slower for another 1k before turning off the main road and going home, my music ran out ages ago and i stuffed my hat in my pocket, with hoodie tied round my waist i had gloves in left pocket bumping my leg and hat in right pocket bumping the other leg, breathing was nice and gentle, there was a slight twinge in my right knee, back running into the sun so glasses off again, I can hear birds in trees and peace all around
The photo is the beach i ran on but not taken today,
Thank you all for being here and I wish you strong lungs and legs xx

How lovely and a mini adventure. Beautiful day for running if you can dodge the ice. I love those kind of runs although I’m back on C25K again. Hope Willow is better soon!!
Thank you, he’s not too bad, but does have to look after his back, the last words i said as i left home were “i might be back in 5 minutes it’s cold out there” whoops lol 😂
I also wish you Solo and also Willow strong lungs and legs as well, that was a nice run for you today, I hope the vaccination has not got you any problems, as I am over 70 it shouldn't be too long before I get a letter through the door telling me to go for the first vaccination of Covid 19, they say it could be anywhere from a sports stadium to your local town hall.
Thanks Al, day one I was a bit headachey and tired, day two a bit achey and tired with slight soreness in my arm, day three not bad no real soreness or headache, day four and five fine 😀of the people at work who have now had it we all felt about the same And today i was itching to run
That is great news Solo, so the first vaccination actually gives you a very slight feeling of having Covid 19 to prevent you getting the real thing, I still think 3 months between the two vacancinations are rather long, that could change if some people get Covid 19 after a few weeks after getting the first jab.
No worse than flu jab for most people and yes the 3 months does seem a large gap
Lovely Sola, great you’ve had your vaccine now, thanks for taking me on your run with you today, you’ve captured that special feeling, feeling strong, running free, brilliant 😀🤗
It was lovely to be out I shall see if the legs are up to a short run tomorrow too because it’s back to work tomorrow Thank you for your lovely comment
Sounds like a wonderful run! You made me laugh with your glasses though... 😂I hope Willow's back is better soon. And so good that you have had the vaccine. My parents (both over 80 and clinically vulnerable) are still waiting to hear when they will get theirs.
There doesn’t seem to be much sense in who gets the vaccine when, we have been told we could still get the virus mildly and spread it around so it would make sense to me to vaccinate the most vulnerable first but i think the reason is so we don’t get it and go off sick Hospital where my daughter works so many are off sick that they are all in standby to go in over the weekend if needed
You definitely earned that brim after all that work, and that sounds a great freedom run Sola. I love those runs where you just make it up as you go along. Looks like you had less cloud than us in Sussex too.
Crikey, if I ran without my contact lenses I’d be a right liability. Blind as a bat!
Probably same here now, iphone says 3 degrees with north wind but will be nice again tomorrow
What a glorious post Sola and well done your second 10k, it sounds like it was a wonderful run. Your comments about your glasses made me smile as it sounded so familiar. When I first started out on C25k I had recently arrived at the point where I needed to wear my glasses all the time. I initially tried running without them, but that didn't work so well, but neither did running with them, especially when it was cold as I would just steam up and wet days were ridiculous. I quite quickly came to realise that getting my vision sorted out for running was becoming a bit of a priority as there was a lot of faffing going on having to stop whilst specs were wiped mid-run etc, and it was marring my enjoyment. I opted for contact lenses and haven't looked back (pun intended 😉👓).
I loved your description of running on the sand 😄; it sounds like you revelled in it. 😊😊
Ohhh what a lovely image I have in my head now after reading that 🤗👍 you are a very good motivator and I hope I start feeling like that soon with my runs again 🤗
You make it all sound so easy!I haven't run since before Christmas - we've had snow and it's still here - no way am I risking it. I'm going to be so unfit by the time the rain comes - I'll need to start from scratch! 😫
It’ll be fine, I had a few weeks off last winter and was fine when i managed to get out again, I’m slower than slow tooIt’s only easy because i don’t push myself and if we had snow I wouldn’t be out there
What a fabulous run! You defo deserved that after your crummy week...and a 10k as well! 🙌🏼🌟👏🏻🎉
It is a nightmare running into sun though 😬🌞😎
How lovely to go out the door and just go wherever the running takes you 🏃🏻♀️
I know what you mean about needing to get out the door...after my long run (for me) on Thursday, I had a rest day Friday...plus the weather was yuck too. Mr Lottie went to bed at 10pm, and all of a sudden I felt really stifled and hot and bothered. Stuck my head out the door, it was dry, but not icy...so I went for a 20 minute walk around the housing estate! By the time I got back, my ears were burning with the cold...but I felt invigorated!
Hope you get out again tomorrow (if you can), and Willow’s back improves.
Thank you, Willows back will mend and nice that you got a walk in the evening, I haven’t been able to run after work, too cold and too tired, so once I was out there this morning I didn’t want to come back too soon
We can run after work in summer and sometimes i run fast sweating about work until i stop swearing and slow down, it’s great but not in the dark and cold and especially when the paths are icy
Hey, thank you, yes I’ve lost the headaches and feel perfectly normal again (well as normal as I can be) 😀I just needed to keep going today once I’d talked myself into it, it was so tempting not to go as we nearly always run together and I missed him but being able to just go my own way was fun too
He is my world and the wonderful thing is I’m his world too and we live so well together, we laugh together, run together, and never get tired of each other and we’ve been together nearly 8 years and i’m a happier person for having him in my life
Loved reading about this run - congratulations on your second 10k too! It’s sounds perfect to go without a plan, have the beach option and hit a milestone run. Perfect 🙌🏻
Sorry for the typos, still can't turn autocorrect off! I think your 10k achievement is brilliant. Not having a plan always works for me when I think I might do a long run.
Missed your post yesterday, just catching up this morning. What an achievement for you, very inspirational run and great post from you as always. Hope WIllow’s back gets better soon. Happy and safe running.😁😁
We nearly always start together, he runs on faster and I carry in longer, right from the start that’s what we’ve done, when I did my first 10k there was no plan and the poor man was waiting in the car for me for over an hour, i hadn’t thought about that as i was running so we made a plan for the future but yesterday i was on my own so just kept going,
What a lovely post - i can just feel the joy beaming out of it! Congratulations on your second 10k too. Great to hear that you've been vaccinated and those side effects sound well worth the protection. Hope Willow's back is sorted soon.
I don't know how you keep going Sola, but I'm so thankful that you do! You took me with you on that run, I hope it recharged your batteries. It sounds like the sort of run that is good for the soul.
I really enjoyed it but it gave me chance to think and we’ve decided to follow the Garmin 5k programme in the hope of running faster fir shorter times and seeing what happens, i know i couldn’t have walked it in the time but would like to see if i can speed up a little, I’m 65 next week and have to have something to aim fir
