As some might know I bought the 5 Lord of the Rings challenges from Conqueror. But instead of running them, I gave myself the challenge of walking every day minimum 3 km or 1 hour to fulfill them.
Today after work was to be the very first walk and everything that could go wrong, went wrong....
First of all my Garmin watch did not connect its GPS to a satelite. I think I walked at least 1 km before it locked, so that was 1 km down the bin. Then I realised I had forgotten my gloves and it was chilly (my hands hurt quickly when cold, maybe because of my rheumatic arthritis?). Said chilliness also worked on my ears so I got pain in my head from the cold (I have very sensitive ears). And to tip it off it also started raining halfway. ๐ต
Aaaaanyhow, after 3,5 km (registered that is) I crawled back inside into the relative warmth of home. I do hope this walk is not a premonition for the future walks ๐.
Well done on getting that first walk in Evy despite the problems you encountered.
I suspect the Garmin locking problem is due the the fact that you haven't had GPS lock for a few weeks as you have been running inside on your treadmill .
The Extended Prediction Orbit (EPO) file which predicts the satellite location can become outdated after a week or 2 .
This can be remedied by synching your device with Garmin connect before you go out and allowing it to update !
I connect to Connect every morning and I also connected when the GPS refused to lock for a long time. But alass, it look longer still. But indeed I haven't locked my GPS in a while. I am going to connect my watch to my laptop this weekend. Haven't done that in a long time either. Fingers crossed next times will go smoother!
Not all those who wander are lost! Even without GPS ๐. Well done, technical glitches, cold ears and hands notwithstanding, it sounds like a good challenge and fun ๐.
Oohhh, but hope the exciting map made up for the hardship! That is life in the fellowship of the ring: cold, rain and Garmin-y goblin glitches! ๐๐
No, I think Iโm pretty much immune to that as Iโve been in close proximity to loads of people with it. My colleague has had it over the last week and a bit and exhibited no symptoms. I, on the other hand, have been feeling like Iโve got one foot in the grave and exhibiting loads of symptomsโฆ esentially Iโve got man flu ๐
Now my son has spotted it (he's halfway through Two Towers for the first time) and is very keen to do it so I suspect it's inevitable. I like the idea of the app and the tracking, though I wish there was a cheaper option without the huge medals!
My son's just reading LOTR and keeps asking me to sing the songs which I still know from this adaptation, just found the recordings online and I was very happy.
I really want to sign up for these but I bought a multipack in the New Year offers so I need to finish them first. Also I've got plantar fasciitis at the moment so I can't walk at all
Oh too bad about being on the IC! Now as for the multipack and wanting the LOTR challenges. They will offer the LOTR challenges for 12 months. So you can still buy them eg. end December. Or ask them as a gift ๐
I was thinking of doing this, well signing up for the first one! All 5 were a bit pricey for me lol.Iโm currently doing the End to End Route 66 challenge( only 800 miles left to go!) ๐
Anyway, do you recommend this challenge? Is it easy to log your info? ๐
As for the price, my mom called me crazy. But then again, it will take me near on a year to do all 5 and if I succeed, I will have adopted a healthy new habit of walking every day.
Says she who might already have a little blister after day 2 ๐. But in my defence, today was hard. Worked on cleaning up a grave with pounding a border into the ground and filling said border with cocos snips (will be very sore tomorrow) and afterwards walked 4,25 km.
Honestly no idea how I will AND walk AND run tomorrow...
As for logging your info. I use my Garmin to log my activities and it connects to the Conqueror app. VERY easy!
