Remember me?

Hiya,

It's me again, the one who is struggling to get back into running after having run a 10 miler. The last 2 or 3 weeks I have not run because of the health of one of my kitties. In the meanwhile she is not doing worse, but she's not doing too well either. Tomorrow she has another blood test, blood pressure test and overall check-up. Fingers crossed for good results and that the meds don't have to be cranked up higher, because I don't think she'd survive that...

Anyhow in other news, since 1 week I am doing some cardio-exercises every day with a - in my opinion - great app in order to tone and strengthen my body. Either I do a full body workout or an arms workout (if the body is feeling a bit sore from the exercises of the day before, haha). I lost about 4 kg in 2 months by counting calories and am nearly at the weight I wish to be at. But I thought my body could use some toning, because I find myself still too young to have the chicken wings my arms are at this moment.

But I also think it might be time to hit the treadmill again. I also have to go into the office more now that everybody seems to think corona is over with (which it isn't in my opinion - getting my 4th covid shot this Thursday). So I guess I might as well add in the running too. And to motivate myself a bit more, I have just ordered a Runn smart treadmill sensor, with which I will have the accurate distance, speed and cadence run, something which my footpod, treadmill and Garmin watch can't give me. With this sensor my dumb treadmill will be faked into a smart treadmill with which I can even go on Zwift if I want to.

Anyhow, thought to update you all on my doing. I have been reading here all the time, though not always reacting. Hope to be able to tell more running things soon.

Cheers, Evy

Even though you are not actually running BS, you are doing all the stuff that will be maintaining your fitness till you are ready to start again. Getting that bit of gear for your treadmill might get you going inside again. Good luck

Thanks, I do hope the exercises won't ruin my running though. Being too sore to run and all that 😂

Keeping everything crossed for your little kitty Evy🤞It’s so stressful when our furry friends get ill ☹️

Well done on doing strengthening exercises every day. They will surely pay big dividends in all sorts of ways, not just for your running. And for the weight loss too, that’s brilliant. You have been busy! So much success!

Enjoy the return to running and keep us updated on how you get on and also on kitty 😍

Thanks, I do hope we will get good news after her check-up. That her T4 is low enough to keep this dose of meds or even lower the dose. Because I am sure she got the seizures because of the too high dose of meds. It is not a known side effect, but in the US there are more kitties who had the same. So fingers crossed. She is also very lifeless due to the meds, I hope this will improve...

As for the running, I do have to watch out to not overdo the combination of running and exercises. Because I am very easily sore and can't run with a 'bit of soreness'...

Of course we remember you BS, how could we not! Sorry to hear about your cat but I hope her checkup tomorrow brings good news! Enjoy the new tech when it arrives - it sounds like just the thing to get you really motivated again!

Hi Evy, so good to hear from you 😊. I love strength work, it’s just so cool to be strong! And being stronger means being more efficient when you do run. I hope your kitten gets better, and have fun with your new treadmill tech 😃.

Thanks, it's more sore work than strength work 😂.

Nice to read you, Evy. And I remember that you were in a bit of a funk. Great that you’re doing strengthening exercises!! Which app are you using? I love the idea of turning a dumb treadmill into a smart treadmill. If only that trick could work on people 🤪

Keep well and fingers crossed for your cat!

Thanks, the app is called Womens Fitness I think. It is in all languages, but for some reason the name is mentioned in Dutch on my phone. In the pic it is the app in the red color. I really like it. You can use it fully free, but you get some adds.

And thanks for the crossed fingers for my lil kitty.

I hope you get good news on your little furry friend. I don’t think I would have the patience like you to do all those indoor exercises, good for you and your weight loss , great grit. Hope to hear about your indoor running with your new equipment. 🙂

Actually, she is not furry, haha. She is a Sphynx cat, a naked kitty. She is 16 years old and has always had issues with stomach and the last years also her pancreas. But recently they found out she also has hyperthyroid. Unfortunately the medication was - according to us - too high because of which she got seizures. The meds were lowered on our request and today she has a check-up with blood being taken, blood pressure being checked, etc. Fingers crossed that her thyroid values have lowered significantly so that the meds won't have to be increased again. She is also very lifeless, which can also be due to the meds. They are really nasty meds.

My other kitty is a furball though, a black furball with a white belly.

As for me, those exercises aren't much per day, about 10 to 15 minutes for a full body workout, but they do work (tell my sore body). I lost about 4 kg, but still have a flabby belly and flabby arms. So I really would like to tone my body a bit to get rid of the flabbiness, haha. I just hope that when I start running again that the exercises won't ruin the running due to making me too sore...

Flabby belly for me all sugary sweet things . They say walking supposed to help that but I’ve still to see it, Probably have to get stricter on sweet things especially evening time . Fingers crossed 🤞 for your kitty.

Sounds like you are keeping yourself together in a difficult time. You'll be ready to emerge in your own time.

Thanks, I do want to start running again though. Maybe today after work. Maybe not, I'll see.

It sounds like you are doing good things with your fitness app, and you are obviously feeling in a better place with your plans to make your Treadmill "smart"I do hope you and your kitty have had good news about the blood tests.

We did get good news this morning, het T4 value (thyroid) has lowered into the normal range! Meaning that at this moment the meds don't have to be increased again. Fingers crossed that also means that the seizures have stopped fully (though I'll never be fully calm again). Her other values were also all good, but she has to have her blood checked again in 3 weeks as she isn't taking the meds long enough to know if there is any effect on the liver and such.

She has thrown up again though and it might be just her regular throwing up due to stomach or pancreas (though she has not eaten anything she can't have). Or if it is a side-effect of the meds. And she has to take a new med too for her blood pressure which also has throwing up as a side-effect. Dangit...

But most important is: her T4 is in a normal range again and her meds don't have to be pumped up!

Normally TSH (Thyroid Stimulation Hormone) is also checked unless the thyroid has completely gone. Often the thyroid is partially working and the feedback from the pituitary via TSH puts it into overdrive to increase the T4 levels.
