Did my first 10k race for years and loved it

I was really lucky to get some amazing advice from kind people on this forum after saying I was doing a 10k. I did prep the night before and felt ready. Weirdly I dreamt I ran a good 10k but for some reason had opted out of the actual race itself - shows how obsessed I was! Took the early loo queue and I stayed at the back as I know my times but felt good to run past a few a few minutes in. Thereafter I kept the 75 minute pacer in my sights. It was three laps of a motor circuit so first felt long then the second felt quicker and then finally I thought I’d lose my head and find it tough in the last lap. This is because most of the sub 60 minute runners had completed there were only volunteers cheering and it was still going around that track. However I made made it and the last few metres I ran well and managed a time of 1:14:57 which for me is great. I’d hoped for 1:20 so happy to smash that. And that feeling when you finish and you’re handed an ice cold water and sweet snake was just the best. I couldn’t stop smiling the rest of the day. My knees are sore today so will take it easy this week but I truly have the bug and will be looking for my next goal now. Thank you to this community for all the great advice that helped steady my nerves and prepare me - it was the best advice!

Now I'm running to my rules and not Mr Garmins I'm having a great time.

I hope that soon I can have the courage to do as you have just done and enter a 10k race.

I have run a 10k solo and I'm currently having fun at parkruns. Time soon to step up methinks 👍

Good luck with that. As I waited in the cold for the race to start surrounded by very keen runners I did wonder what the hell I was doing however once in it was such a feeling really uplifting good luck with your plans!

I know this is not your first 10k but notice that you don't have a graduate 10 badge .

Ask for it here 😁👍

The sweet snake was fantastic (and I quite enjoyed the lolly too!) definitely looking for the next one but haven’t arranged anything yet, what about yourself?

Not sure fancy upping my distance a bit as a goal too but also looking at 10k ones in the new year

Sorry for the delay in replying - I’m terrible with technology! Fantastic to have goals and agree it’s a nice distance - let me know if you find any! :)
