Spooky (yet festive) run 🌟

Hello everyone!

I’ve been away in the South West for a week and am feeling so refreshed. I really miss living by the sea 💙 The pic shows Cornwall in all its glory. I even managed a sea swim without a wetsuit it was so warm! Sigh..

I was excited at the prospect of a coastal run but the terrain and early morning (lack of) light would not have made enjoyable cliff-edge running.

Instead, I opted for a hotel gym ‘dreadmill’ run. If there are people out there who enjoy a treadmill - hats off to you - but for me, this was a soulless run 😖

Granted, it didn’t help that the gym’s music system wasn’t working. Nor was the TV screen. I hadn’t been able to find my headphones either so I knew it was going to be a tough session.

It was my 2nd run of Wk8 C25K. 28 mins. I pushed with all my might but the dull thumping of my feet and the monotonous whirring of the machine near killed me. Plus it was soo hot. I did 25 mins and hit STOP.

Thankfully, I later enjoyed lots of sunny beach walking to make up for the session. (And I enjoyed a monumental hotel breakfast for a job well done) 😋

Upon my return home, I ran R3 in the sunshine and enjoyed it sooo much! It was really tough in parts but wonderfully comfortable in others. My rhythm has been really off during round 2 of C25K, so today I opted for a stealth run at 6:30pm. In the past, nighttime sessions have had me running quite smoothly.

The sky was bleak as the sun was setting and the wind picked up. Spooky, crumpled dark clouds were not enticing me to get out the door.

30 mins, I thought.. was I ready for that? I donned the run gear quickly and silenced the doubting gremlins.

‘Nope.’

‘Nope.’

‘And nope - this is happening!!’ 👹👊🏼💥

Would you believe it - I saw my first Christmas lights of the season! 3 sets..!! I guess there’s people in the village who just need that twinkly glow of warm and fuzzy festive cheer a little earlier again ✨💕

10 mins in, I had the fright of my life. Out of the shadows, a ghostly white figure emerged squealing like a banshee and wrapped itself around my legs, determined to pull me to the ground.

Turned out to be a deranged fluffy white ‘doodle’ of sorts, who’s yap was loud enough to wake the dead. He was bloody terrifying out of the blue! 😱 Ah, well, ‘tis the season. Maybe he’s in trick or treat training.

15mins in and I wasn’t sure I’d make it around. I’ve been a little less ‘sack of potatoes’ but still often felt exhausted mid-run 😕 More ‘pomme purée’ kind of tired. (I don’t want to say mash potato, I’m not quite so lumpy bumpy) 😂

I somehow found myself on autopilot and the next ten minutes flew by. I was finishing up before I knew it. 3.8K in 30mins. Slower than my first round of C25K. I’m a teeny tiny bit disheartened but I’m sure my pace will pick back up over time.

Hope everyone’s having a good week. Keep fighting those demons - even the cute, fluffy ones!

Well done…nearly there! Don’t worry about pace…I’m no where near that…even now! 😂

I agree about treadmills…it takes a certain kind of strength to regularly run on one, and for some people it’s the only option…so hats off to them! I found them hard enough to walk on…I was a gym member a few years ago (before I started running), and would do a 20-30 minute walk.

…I nearly fell off the one in our local sports shop when I went for a gait analysis! 😂😂😂

Oh goodness Lottie! Yeah, I was glad no one was in the gym with me. I’m a big of a lofty giraffe with big feet.. could imagine myself going flying also! 🙃

Hope things are a little calmer your end 💛

Thanks! I was looking forward to sparkly runs, just wasn’t expecting them in October..!

I’m finally putting in some mileage again on LEJOG. (Managed to figure out how to extend it!) Thanks for your encouragement with that 🙂

Great post 😂Yep treadmills are pretty awful 😣 Without distraction too I’m amazed you lasted so long!

Embrace the slow 🐌 and aim for enjoyment instead. It feels great when you find your rhythm, what you describe as ‘autopilot’. You’re doing well. Nearly there 😊

Thanks Frizz, I honestly don’t know how I lasted either!

Monday and Wednesday’s runs were pretty slow and you’re 100% right - A slow pace equals far more enjoyment 🤩

Autopilot really is the dream. It only lasted ten mins but it’s a start to my former run life 😃 Thanks for the encouragement!

In my absence from the forum, I hadn't realised you'd restarted the programme! I'm sure you'll sail through. How wonderful to be in Cornwall, although even a mention of Christmas makes me shudder! As always, an entertaining post and lovely picture!

Agreed, I can’t get onboard with Christmas yet. Although I work in marketing now so am already deep in it day to day 😄

I cheekily jumped in to the programme at W4 in July, as I ran a few intervals of 3 or 5 mins through May-July. Am finding it more challenging this time around but I’ll get there 🙂

Hope you’re feeling better after your fall 🐾
