Hooray! A lovely running treat for me today! Dabby-dot is home from Uni for the weekend, so this morning we had our first run together since early September. My furry run buddy came along too and together we introduced Dabby to Jeffing. Sheโs converted ๐. We did nearly 4.9k in 42 mins; this included our two 5 minute warm up and cool down walks.
As for the โDrumming Treeโ ๐ฒโฆโฆ To explain, during our dog walk yesterday afternoon Dabby and I walked past the pine tree in the photo and we heard a quiet drumming noise coming from the trunk. It was too low to be a woodpecker, which we couldnโt see any evidence of, and there certainly werenโt any holes in the tree trunk. It was very puzzling as the whole tree seem to be reverberating. A fellow dog walker joined us to listen and was equally perplexed ๐ค. We named the tree โThe Drumming Treeโ and continued home. We stopped at the tree during our run today to have another listen, but all we could hear was the breeze through the pines and the remaining leaves on the surrounding trees ๐. No drumming. So we remain puzzled. If anyone can offer suggestions to solve our mystery weโd be delighted!

After much googling and sifting I remember we did a lesson at horticultural college about this, one explanation is ....... As below
Good run for you and Dabby dot, I am sure there is a scientific reason for the drumming such as bubbles, or could it be "fairies" have a party in the tree trunk ๐ lol
How lovely for you Delly-dot! I love the explanation about the โtree soundsโ but youโd think weโd hear it more often wouldnโt you? Happy running!
Ah I bet it was lovely to have Dabby D back home and to be able to run together again, not to forget you 4 legged companion ๐พ๐ถI'm betting on a ghostly Woodpecker myself โบ๏ธ
