Stress-busting run?! ๐Ÿคฃ

โ€ข37 Replies

After a particularly stressful day, today's C25k run with my daughter Dabby-dot should have been a stress buster, not a stress inducer!!!

We set off on our warm up walk but it went haywire pretty quickly. It all started with headphones and Strava glitches for my daughter. Then our dog Isla, who has run with me before, decided she didn't like going into the walk sections today, thank you very much, but wanted instead to be a canine Paula Radcliffe for the entire time we were out. It all made this run rather hard work!

I gave my daughter my headphones and changed the music for her (she disapproved of mine ๐Ÿ™„) and switched off her misbehaving C25k and Strava apps. I had loaded the run onto my Garmin, so I kept pace with her and recorded her run for her. Meanwhile, when I wasn't hurdling the dog I was getting tied up by the lead, while also juggling the necessary little plastic bag that accompanies most civic-minded dog walkers/runners on their outings. At this point a chap ran past us having a blissful, solo, tech-free run........ ๐Ÿ™„

So I didn't manage an add on run again this evening, By the time we were nearing home I felt that I had expended enough effort for that run. My daughter took her turn with the dog (NB, but not the little plastic bag), and by the time we had reached the final run stage she had coaxed Isla into a little trot. By our cool down walk I was feeling calmer and might even have managed some words of praise for the dog. As for my daughter, I am just full of admiration. If she can cope with a run like that (and a stressed mother), and finish it with such a lovely smile, she's a star ๐Ÿฅฐ.

Well done the double Dโ€™s! I did my final week 3 run in the equivalent of running under Niagara Falls โ€ฆ..what is wrong with this WEATHER??? Starting run 1 week 2 tomorrow. If I ran with my dog I would get whiplash as she sits down and wonโ€™t move without warning. Happy runnings. ๐Ÿฅฐ

in reply to Timotea

We shall be leaving both the tech and the dog behind next time! ๐Ÿ˜€Well done on your wet run. The weather is definitely weird at the moment. Fingers crossed it improves next week as we're on our hols in the Yorkshire Dales..... ๐ŸŒž

Technology, huh! Son is off to Thorpe Park for a day or two so Iโ€™ll be getting a solo run tomorrow. No excuses ๐Ÿ˜‚

Btw my cat has never shown any interest in joining me.

in reply to Yesletsgo

Ooh, enjoy your "me time" on your solo run!โ˜บ๏ธ

Your daughter is a star, for that matter so are you, as for your dog, teach him to slow down, I am happy that run relieved your stress a little bit. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพ

in reply to AlMorr

Our dog has boundless energy. She is used to running with me without any walk intervals, plus she had my daughter with her today, so she was super excited. Just too much going on I think Al. Our next run will be tech and dog free!

Haha sounds like an eventful run ๐ŸคฃWell done for dealing with the issues ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

I have a mental picture of your dog charging off in front ๐Ÿคฃ

in reply to Instructor57

Yep - think cartoon dog pulling cartoon owner and that about sums it up! ๐Ÿ˜†

Oh no ๐Ÿ™ˆ Well done for getting through that instead of throwing your hands up in the air and quitting.

in reply to Maddee_6333

Oh, I came close, but I have never surrendered a run yet and I wasnโ€™t about to start today! The dog however, is back in training and the tech will be left behind next time!

๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„What a great write-up, I had to read this outloud to my hubby! And such a great run for both of you! I am just imagining all the big smiles, including Islaโ€˜s. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿถ

It was memorable! Laughing about it now!

Oh dear Delly! Sounds mighty stressful, but hey you did it and you ended up somewhat de-stressed. Thatโ€™s a win. ๐Ÿ˜€

Your dog will learn whatโ€™s expected of her eventually. Do you use a hands-free lead? If not, it makes all the difference in the world. Keep trying, maybe on runs which have no relevance (if you get my drift!) and one day you and your dog will love running together. โค๏ธ

As for tech. Hate it. Nothing useful to add!

in reply to cheekychipmunks

Thank you Cheeky ๐Ÿ˜Š! I get your drift! Isla had been improving running alongside me, but I think yesterday was a bit too exciting (running with two of us) and confusing (too many walking breaks). Iโ€™ll try again when the run is less significant ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿ˜Š

Am exciting action packed run... Canine antics, technical tangles.... But, an awesome offspring! This all sounds very positive!

Well done you three ! x

I love the image of you hurdling the dog with poo bag flying round in your hand, while dutifully recording the run on your Garmin!Glad you all made it to the finish line unscathed ๐Ÿ˜

in reply to Lizcanrun

Iโ€™m so glad only one other runner saw our antics! Hopefully we will be more refined next time ๐Ÿ˜‰

It reads like a rather stressy run indeed. Good you could finish a bit calmer though, I hope that made the run worth it after all?

We are laughing about it this morning!

Oh my goodness! That does sound stress-inducing! Tech malfunctions alone are often enough to faze me, but adding in a canine companion that has completely different ideas about what should happen, and all the accompaniments that go along with that, I think you are made of sterner stuff than me!

Well done on persevering and seeing that one through! You will remember that run for some time I'm sure ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿคฃ

in reply to Birdlady64

Definitely memorable! ๐Ÿ˜‰

That sounds horrible! Great that you can laugh about it now!

I really hate distractions while I am running - and I hate that I hate that - I really don't want to be dependant on tech and everything going how I had seen it in my head. I am desperately trying to be more adaptable but it's very hard for me with running - life in general is very much go with the flow - maybe it's a reflection of how hard I find running still.

It's great that the dog comes with you though, I would love to be able to run with mine, but they really aren't endurance dogs. Maybe if you tire Isla out a bit before the runs are run/walk - maybe some ball in the garden or a quick run before you join your daughter? Mine are much more obedient if they aren't quite so hyper.

in reply to backintime

Great advice about using up some of Islaโ€™s energy first. I will give it a try. ๐Ÿ˜Š

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to

Mostly with mine, I just need to channel the energy a bit, even if it's with some obedience (haha - they don't do very well) stuff or some running around. I'm thinking of getting the Fitpaws peanut for standing on or the doughnut so that they can do exercises indoors too

Well done the Dots! It sounds hilarious, if not what you actually planned! But Iโ€™m sure it will all get better!

in reply to Oldgirlruns

Thank you OGR. Weโ€™re off on holiday to the Yorkshire Dales tomorrow, dog too, but I think weโ€™ll leave her with the family for our next run ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

in reply to Cantsoimgonna

Lovely to hear from you and catch up with your other replies. Enjoy running with your daughter ๐Ÿ˜Š. Weโ€™ve decided to run without the dog next time so my daughter can get to grips with running the C25K app with Strava. Tourist runs for us this week as weโ€™re on holiday. ๐Ÿ˜Š
