I've been having something of a hectic time, so haven't had time to share this one.
Last year, I clocked up the 1,000 mile mark on 30 December. This year, I hit that particular landmark on Saturday. I'm not running more often this year, still typically heading out 3-4 times a week; the difference is the distances.
Last year I was averaging around 30km each week with one run being 10km or longer, but the rest being much shorter. This year, I'm averaging around 40km each week, with 10km being my starting distance. My average run distance this year is just over 12km compared with 9.5km last year.
My goal is to run 2021km this year and I currently have a wee bit over 350km left to go.
As an "after work" runner, I'm now moving into the night run season, which brings its own challenges. The Hi-Viz vest and headlamp have been dug out of the drawer (haven't been needed yet, but I suspect by next week they will) and the merino base layers have already made their first appearances.
So onwards we go, running down the remainder of the year.
Good luck to anyone with events coming up, and, as always, stay safe.

I have a few thoughts, but really I tend to just make it up as I go along. The main thing is that I'm out there and covering some ground and that it keeps me fit in both mind and body. Really, I guess that's all any of us can hope for. Anything else is just icing on the cake (and we don't half work hard for that cake...🤣)
Indeed. I’ve just eaten two mice pies (this was a typo but I quite like it so I’ll leave it 🤣) so I guess I should probably got out for a run tomorrow 😋
Wow, that's excellent. I aim for 1250 miles per year walking, but this year as I started running I have included those miles too (there's not time for everything!). The various aches and injuries that come with starting running mean that I'm not sure I have covered any additional ground this year due to running, but should make ~1350 miles by the end of the year I think. Hopefully next year the running miles will start to make more difference. But to do it all running - I'm impressed Good luck with your 2021 km challenge, I'm sure you've got this!
I think that so long as you are feeling the benefits, how far and how fast you run don't really matter too much. It's good to set targets and it's great when we achieve them, but life doesn't always run smoothly so we shouldn't get too hung up when things don't work out. Health and happiness trump speed and distance any day in my book.
I'll probably not reach 1000 miles by the end of the year. Strava says I'm at 1114km (692 miles) at the moment. My "all time" figure is only 1471km (914 miles).
I've only recently become comfortable doing 10km as a routine distance.
If you can walk a mile in someone's shoes... you've got their shoes and you have a mile head start on them.
How many pairs of shoes have you gone through so far this year?
I've only retired one pair (after having done 500 miles in them - about 250 of that this year), but I do have 3 other pairs to spread the load. Two of those pairs are coming up on 500 miles so getting near the end of their running lives.
