I woke up this morning and thought what do I need today and the answer was 10km. I haven't been doing that distance since the HM in May, but I felt stressed and in need of some me time. It felt great to get ready for my outing. Find the proper bottles with lids get everything prepared. There is a sense of adventure that comes with my preparation for a 10km.
I don't know why it's different from a 7km which is what ive been doing lately but the extra 3km gives me back so much more.
I wasn't sure how it was going to go down today with the run/walk as Ive been working on my speed, continuous running and speed walking over my "off season". Today's outing was the first time to put them all together.
I did three sections of 1km continuous running which is a new thing for me and my heart rate is starting to behave normally with the training that I've been doing, I got one of my fastest 1km times for a 1km section. My speed walking is coming on I'm more relaxed in the shoulders when I hit my pace. Finished off with some weights on the machines in the park as well.
All in all today was just what I needed. A 10km outing but managed to dump a load of mental rubbish along the way. I love having the ability to be able to do that just with a good run.
Wishing you all a happy healthy week

Fabulous sounds like it went well and was. Much needed....what do you take with you for a 10k, I just head out the door, feel like I'm missing something
Thank you. I always take water as I'm a real sweaty Betty so I need to replenish. A!so it takes me 1.5 hours so I need a good breakfast. I've just got a slightly different routine getting ready.
So glad you felt good after your run - I agree that 10k is a great distance for that endorphin boost and really helps if you need to 'run off' a bad day!
I did just that yesterday after three days with a relentless, slight, stress-induced headache. Went out, ran 8.2k, and came back a new person. Sweaty but no headache! Wonderful.
So exciting. I'm sure you will love it. I can't explain the difference, for me its doing something I never ever thought I was capable of. It still makes me smile the fact that I can.
Great stuff RFC, I find after 7K is the time I sort of zone out, so maybe that's the same for you too? I'm looking forward to some longer runs too as the weather is more conducive xx
Thank you. I know what you mean, I relax a bit after 3km then again I relax some more after 7km. If anything it always feels "easier" to run 10 rather than 7.
I'm planning a long run this weekend and looking forward to it in the same sort of way. I agree what you said to IbenCopenhagen there's a sort of disbelief afterwards did I really do that, but also I feel a bit naughty as I go such a long way from home on my route and it's a big reveal afterwards when I show the map of where I went to my bf. "You ran how far??"
I know it's great looking at a map and seeing how far it is. We are often In The car and I will say Oh I run here and MrRfc says "all this way" makes me feel good.
Seems to be a good bench mark, I went out and did 7k yesterday and started feeling better after 5k and beyond, so will be interesting to see how I go on Sunday while training with my group for the Croydon 10k in Oct, will try for 8km...
Very well done RFC. If doctors could bottle the feeling that comes from a good run, then this country would be a much happier and less stressed place. Have a great weekend xx
What a perfect post RFC. Not the fsct that you're stressed of course but the impact that running has and the wonders it brings to oneself both mentally & physically. x
