New Running Vest and a 10k

Well, today I tried out my new running vest, I was really excited to see how it would shape up. But I hadn’t adjusted it properly, and for the first half k or so it was flapping about, so I nearly whipped it off and threw it in the hedge in a fit of pique! Anyway, straps adjusted, things settled down, although it was a little bit strange having water with me for the first time ever - but what a treat when I fancied a sip! 💦💦💦

Today I chose Coach Bennett’s 8k tempo run. More fool me, I didn’t realise that this is, in fact, 12k in total - 2k warm up and the same for the cool down as it were. With some 8k madness in the middle 😆. 12k was a bit beyond me today, so I settled on 10k, which was quite hard work with some hills thrown in and the temperature getting warmer. But wait, I told myself, you have water!!! It was such a novelty, it really was, to be able to take a few sips here and there. It’s a compressible bottle so doesn’t take up too much room although it was weird having that extra little bit of weight in one of my new secret vest pockets.

A lady taking her children to school said to them to make some room for the runner to pass. I smiled to myself, I really did, because she meant me, and I never thought anyone would describe me as a runner 🏃‍♀️😁.

I hope everyone has a smashing day whatever you choose to do! 🌞🌞🌞

Well done on that great 10k in the increasing temperatures 😁👍Oh, I like the sound of drinks on tap 😁

(A secret G&T) 🤣

It's nice also to be acknowledged as a runner 😁👍

Thank you! Yes, I could turn it into a cocktail vest, shaken not stirred 😆.

Definitely shaken, if my experience with a hydration vest (jacket) is anything to go by.

US: vest = UK: waistcoat

Ha ha yes, my vest/jacket/waistcoat was definitely shaken! 😁😁😁

It is 💕

Well done and in this heat, 10K is more than enough! Is the vest one with a bladder on the back? I was looking into such vests recently, but I'm afraid I will sweat to death in one?

Hi Evy, there’s a space for a bladder but I thought that would be too much. Luckily I have a day’s leave today, so I ran pretty early, but not crazy early. The vest itself is very light but I still think it’ll take a bit of getting used to! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Your vest sounds like the best idea in this heat, I’m glad you got it adjusted. Lovely compliment, lucky you. Happy running 🤗

Thank you Grannyhugs, it was overall a good run. I had meant to go out Sunday, but I just didn’t feel like it! That hasn’t really happened before, and I worried it was the start of the slippery slope 😆. So I was extra determined today! All the best 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️.

Sometimes you have days like that, but a great run for you today 🤗

Fantastic run! I got one of those vests for Christmas but I haven't tried it out yet. I did use my belt for the first time when I did my vv10000 walk/run at the end of May and, like you, I was grateful for the water on demand 💦💦 I'll try out the vest on my next long run, it looks like it might be more comfy than the belt - as long as I make sure I adjust it properly, thanks for the tip! 😃👍🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️☀️☀️☀️

Thank you! Yes, make sure it’s nice and snug or it’ll drive you mad 😆.

Is it hot to wear?
