Testing a running vest...🏃‍♀️

Hello lovely people,

What an absolutely beautiful morning here in the east of england, I’m currently tapering for a HM on Sunday, after doing a trail 10 mile event last Sunday - don’t ask, it seemed like a good idea at the time....😱......anyway, after a rush of blood to the head earlier in the year, applying for the VLM, got the ‘sorry’ jacket yesterday.......so that’s the end of that - I’m secretly relieved.........i’d bought the above pictured vest thing for longer runs - getting serious this running malarkey! 😉 - I haven’t got a water bladder for it yet, but I’ve got two collapsible water bottles. That wasn’t the only reason for buying it, my lovely Zikee two bottle belt was having some, shall we say, unwanted influence on my stomach etc., 😩 on early morning long runs.......(that’s enough about that....😂..)

Did a 5k gentle run this morning, and thought I’d test the vest......it was great, good snug fit, got a bit sweaty on my back, but wasn’t too uncomfortable, fitted everything I needed into it, a bit inspector gadget utility vest, 😂 but so far I like, and would recommend giving them a go, if you find belts annoying, uncomfortable etc.,

The run, by the way, was like a bag of rusty old spanners....clanking along, with the odd, ohh, ahh at the stiffness....😂......but I do feel better for it...

Happy running all!

Mx

Oooh i LOVE the colour of that. It makes my boring black one look very tame! And your bag of rusty spanners remark made me chuckle. Good luck with your HM x

Thanks Flick, yes, thought I’d be brave with the colour, to go with the yellow bits....had a matching fluorescent yellow t-shirt on too!😄....

The oohs and aaahs reminded me of when some ‘older’ people sit down, or stand up they go, ahh! Every time......😂🤖squeaky robot legs....

I've got the Salomon adv skin 5l on my wish list to purchase this year. Costly but felt oh so comfortable when I tried it on. I'm just trying to spread out my purchases over winter. I thought running was "cheap" 😂. I love the colour of your vest! Nicer than the black or red available for the one I'm looking at.

Thanks, cheap? Who’d have thought you’d be drooling over things made of Lycra and hi vis😂 not to mention things like socks, how complicated are they? And the shoes, oh my lord...💷💷💷 !

I’ve got a different version of this, it’s turquoise. I was umming and ahing whether to get one when telford_mike posted a picture wearing his. Being easily led I ordered one ☺️ (Amazon) and it’s been great. Mine came with a “free” 500ml squishy bottle and it has a clear pocket on the shoulder for a card with emergency details, all nice and easy. The ICE thing on my phone is a bit obscure - even for me and I know about it 😮.

I have used it with a bladder and it works well. (I had a couple of bladders to use from previous cycling/running rucksacks that weren’t as good as this jacket). The prices of these are very reasonable and the quality is great.

Thanks Annie, yes, I liked it as it didn’t budge, I’m quite impressed, and as you say, it’s pretty good value, I did look in a fancy running shop at the posh brand i.e also known as the ship of the desert.......and I nearly fell over when I saw the price! 😱

I want one! 😅

I’m not even at 10k yet, so I’d probably look a bit daft clad in that marvelous piece of kit, but I love buying accessories! I get serious FOMO.

Good luck with your HM! 😀

Thank you very much, don’t be put off by the distances, it’s a means of carrying stuff, I doubt I’ll use a water bladder in it, but it’ll be useful having that space for a jacket etc., my husband suggested fish and chips and a couple of cans of beer....😂....

Thanks for showing us this Madge. Does the bladder fit in the back of the vest with a tube coming forward?

Whenever I’ve tried drinking from a bladder or collapsible bottle the water tastes awful, no matter how many times it’s rinsed. Any advice anyone?

Hi Dexy, yes, the bladder would go in the back, I haven’t got one, so can’t comment on what the water is like from it. I have got two soft water bottles from decathlon and they have been fine, well, I haven’t noticed any strange taste, although I’ve got more experience of using hard bottles in a belt, hope that helps.

You can get them with bladders (I already had mine) or buy separately. I’ve not noticed a bad taste with the soft bottle that came with my vest but I think putting some bicarbonate in with water and letting it ‘soak’ for 30mins, and rinsing thoroughly and air drying might help. I did this to get rid of some mould in one of my older bladders halos used steriliser fluid too). I also dry inside with kitchen paper. I keep my bladders and soft bottle in one of the salad crispers in the fridge to keep them clean and mould free once cleaned and dried. This is the one

I have - if the link works

Thank you for all that great advice Annie. I bought a small soft bottle from decathlon and I bought hubby a bladder for his rucksack and I just couldn’t get rid of that rubbery taste so will try the bicarbonate of soda tomorrow .

Just make sure it’s well rinsed out (don’t mean to be rude I’m sure you will ☺️) and maybe use some very hot water too. Also let the water out through the tube - I didn’t say that in the above. You might have to do it a couple of times, I did. Hope it works.

I love mine - I carry keys in the upper front pocket, bottle of water in the left lower pocket, phone in the right zip pocket to counterbalance the water, small microfibre towel in the right front pocket. Everything else (wallet, reading glasses, polos etc) goes in the 5L rear stowage. Brilliant bit of kit for twenty quid.

Thanks Mike, yes, I can see it becoming a favourite, I’m glad I bought it.
