I went for my week 4 8k run yesterday, nice and early before the family woke up and the chores begin. It was my first time doing 8k so Iβd picked out a nice new route along the nearby river. All went to plan up to the half way point, except that I hadnβt quite hit 4k by the time I was meant to turn. Realising I could squeeze in a little extra distance, and thinking I was close to a route I used to cycle to work, I took an unplanned turn and headed off down a country road....
As you will have guessed, this did not turn out as planned. 1km down the road I came to a complete closed bridge across the motorway. Did I recognise this as a sign I should turn around and go back go my original route? Of course not. With the extra 1km each way thatβd make it close to 10k, best to go around the bridge....
A very muddy path, a jump over a fence and another 2km later I made it to the other side of the bridge. Even better, I know my route home... but Iβm not quite where I thought I was. Off I set again, no break in the pace as Iβm now cutting it fine to get my daughter to her drama class.
In the end, I made it home, with a few new achievements under my belt. π I ended up doing 12k of running, over 1h 12m, and just missed the sub-1h 10k time too! Not bad for someone who hadnβt run until 3 months ago.
Back to 8k again next week, Iβll see if I can get it right next time.
