New purchase for longer runs

Having kit envy over ju-ju-‘s running vest and having had the wish for water during yesterday’s jelly baby incident, I went up to Decathlon to see what hydration options they have.

Like most people starting I bought myself a 500ml rigid bottle and carried it diligently out and brought it back pretty much unused each run. Then I got a 250ml 0-shaped one and pretty much did the same.

Now I’ve broken the hour barrier I can see a little water will be useful.

So I found these. A bumbag with two side slots for soft water bottles and I bought a 150ml and 250ml bottle for it - different sizes for experiment and flexibility.

The bottles have a little finger loop and the small one would easily fit into a fairly small pocket.

£9.99 for the bumbag, £6.49 and £6.99 for the bottles (which seems dear for the bottles but they have really good, locking bite valves).

I plan to take the small bottle out with me on my long runs from now, swapping it for the larger one if it gets hotter, or both of I start running even further.

A mobile phone would fit in one of the bottle holders if only carrying one bottle.

The centre pocket is quite large and I’ve bought myself a foil blanket to carry in there in case I break down all sweaty a long way from home. Plenty of room for keys and jelly babies or gels as well.

The pocket would hold my waterproof jacket folded up (or it could loop over the belt).

Nice one Jay! I've got my eye on ju-ju's vest too... if you know what I mean ;) ...and with a birthday coming up I feel some more "running retail therapy" is imminent :)

If you want a cheaper vest (though it probably won’t be as close fitting), I got this one from Amazon...

amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07...

It certainly doesn’t fit my more expensive 2.5L bladder in, but I got a cheap 1L one for it (I’m sure 1.5L ones would fit fine too), and 2 collapsible bottles with straws on them to try as an alternative for the front 2 pockets...tonnes of pockets / lots of options...

Looks a sound investment Jay, I think I’ll need something similar soon. 🙂 Let us know how you get on with it. 👍

Glad to see it’s got room for the jelly babies too! 😊

Good luck with it!

Nice! I carry an O shaped one but it's 500ml. Not sure if it'll carry me through to 10k when I start training but we'll see.

You should be fine with what you have. Unless it’s hot, you ‘glow’ mightily or are out for well over an hour you shouldn’t need any more than that - and probably not even that much. Running belts are useful to free up your hands and carry ‘stuff’ like phone, drink, tissues, money though.

Looks like good stuff Jay, nothing like a bit of new kit to keep the motivation high 😀👍

Looks great, Jay! Water sounds a good plan - don’t want you chocking on those JBs again! 😃❤️🏃‍♂️

Fantastic. i have their hydration backpack with 1.5 litre bladder and it's a godsend for long hot runs

My running limit is likely to be 12k so a bladder seemed a bit much. But when I eventually treat myself to ju-ju-‘s vest it’s soemthing you can add....

Is that a belt? Look alarmingly like some sort of rubberised thong. With red things to hook your race number onto. I had no idea Decathlon had branched out into "adult" wear. Is that some Brexit thing to make the "will of the people" change its mind? Hope they didn't muck up the sizing the way they normally do tho.... :-)
