I havenā€™t run since 5th May, advised to stop by the doc whilst a small heart defect was investigated.

Iā€™ve been pretty down in the dumps since then.

Walking about 6-7 km a day but itā€™s not the same and Iā€™ve put on a kilo.

Anyway, a chest X-ray has shown a normal heart and partially knackered lungs (atelectasis)caused by asthma and smoking a long time ago.

The 24 hour ECG is still to be done, but under strict advisement the doc has said I can start running again.

Gently does it. A 3km jog planned for tomorrow.

You never know what youā€™ve got til itā€™s gone, as Ms Mitchell used to sing.

Glad to hear you can get back to running! I had a similar thing last year and you really miss it. Enjoy your run and take it easy!

Great news that you can get back out there.

Do you have any treatment for your lungs? Presumably running may help there?

I do have to be more disciplined with asthma preventer. I wondered why my VO2max was so mediocre.

Thank you. Iā€™m looking forward to pulling those laces tight, out the front door and setting Monsieur Garmin off even if itā€™s just a short jog.

Good to hear that you are allowed up and running again. That 3k is going to feel gorgeous, Iā€™m sure. Canā€™t wait to hear about it!

Couldn't agree more with you and Joni. Glad to hear the ticker is still working and a bit of running might keep the lungs clear for a longer.Happy running!

Thank you. Iā€™ve just done my comeback run. Just 3.6 km, 130 cadence, average heart rate just 100. A smile on my face all the way.

Not surprised you're smiling. I work on the principle 'use it or lose it' and I reckon it can be applied to lungs too.

Not en pleine forme, but Iā€™ll get there. AmitiĆ©s.

Had I read your post 2 years ago my thoughts would have been "Well if you have got to give up running because of your health then that's what you have to do.". That would have been before I started running. Now, I can really appreciate what that means and what affect that must have on someone if they are told they have to stop.

Good luck with the running and I hope your heath allows you to continue for as long as you want. :) :) :)

Iā€™m playing catch-up on the forum and have only just seen this HF but Iā€™m so glad youā€™ve been given the ok to start running again! I know youā€™ll be careful and Iā€™m pretty sure youā€™ll enjoy it! Happy running!

Thank you OGR. I think keeping average heart rate to 100 on a first run is taking it safe.

100, wow! On my comeback, I struggled with a 130 target. I now average under 130 on some easy runs but I'd struggle to run with an average under 100. Still, I guess we're all different; running with that average suggests to me that your heart must be in reasonaly good nick (I spent some time in cardiology but as a customer).

That was a slow run at only 130 cadence. Funny things, tickers: during my walks whilst I wasnā€™t running even on the steepest hills it wouldnā€™t rise above 120.

That's interesting. Looking back at the figures for when I walked an HM, my HR averaged 141, peaking at 155. Mind you, I was going for it!

Glad to hear that you're back out there HF. Hopefully, the ECG will allow normal service soon.
