The last time I went on a 2K run, I was chasing a PB!
Not today, though. Before I left, I had planned a longer run, maybe 6 or 7K.
I set off at lunchtime, an unusual time for me. I had trouble with acquiring a satellite signal, which was very frustrating. Then my brother sent me a text telling me that our Dad in hospital still isnβt eating. I had a brief exchange of messages with him just before starting to run. I tried to shift into βrun modeβ after that but it wasnβt easy.
Hardly surprising really that my heart rate quickly zoomed up into Zone 4. By the end of the first km it was in Zone 5 and didnβt want to come down, so I decided to end the run, although I did speed up a little until the end. Next time Iβll set off super slowly and try some calming breathing just before I set off! Looking at the stats, maybe I did set off a little too quickly. I had the Covid booster 2 weeks ago and the previous vaccinations also seemed to point to an elevated heart rate for a few weeks.
BUT this was my third run this week and itβs a while since Iβve run 3 times in a week! And I ran negative splits! OK, I know thatβs not difficult on a 2K run, but cut me some slack πβοΈ

A run is a run, the important thing is that you got out there. I am also a creature of habit and only enjoy running in the morning. You were probably worried about your dad too which put you off your stride. I hope he is OK, they are a big worry at that age. Don't be hard on yourself π
Thanks! Dad has been in hospital for 2.5 months and we have a meeting in a weekβs time, probably to discuss him going into temporary care, so yes, a real worry. Iβm glad I got out there, though - brief though it was! π
Similar experience here.... wanted to do 6 or 7k, but full of cold so the temperature and cold wind meant running whilst blowing my nose constantly. I couldn't breathe properly, heart rate shot up and wouldn't come down, so stopped after 30 minutes. Better than sitting on the couch for both of us I think π
I agree! I wasnβt expecting the outing to be quite so quick, but I know I can run for longer distances when the stars are a little more aligned! π
There was a lot going on there itβs no wonder that you couldnβt settle in to a long run and 2k is a great run. Hope your dad feels well enough to eat soon and be kind to yourself, that booster can cause havoc
My trusty slack cutting scissors are here Julia βοΈ But I only lend them to special people π₯°
Itβs 2km more than Iβm currently running and given the news about your dad you did brilliant to follow thru with a run ππ½ββοΈ ππππ
Spooky! I thought of you when I was talking about cutting some slack - and there you are! Thank you, Jane - good to hear from you and I hope you are well β€οΈ x
Iβm good thanks lovely.. still lurking on here and strava- missing my running ππ½ββοΈ but just no time at momentβ¦ loving my time as a nanna and they grow up so fast so making the most of it xx
Aww thanks Mister - really miss my running.. full time job is βfull timeβ hahaβ¦ and then spending time with my grandkids is so preciousβ¦ donβt worry Iβm still lurking π On here.. and strava too! No escaping me π€£ Youβre doing fab by the way ππ
Well done on getting out there, any run/distance must be a good thing, especialy with so much going on, dont really understand all this heart rate stuff, i just run at a slowish pace, and seems to keep me going π€Hope your dad picks up a bit, keep going Julia! π€
Iβm sorry to hear that your dad isnβt well and not eating Jools. I hope he gets better. You did well to complete any kind of run after that and even though you stopped short, you got out so well done. ππππ
Thank you. My Dad needs more focused care than the hospital can give; weβre having a meeting next week. Realistically, he will probably have go into temporary care to be assessed.
I felt a bit of a fraud going back home after just 15 minutes running, but the effort was too much! Iβll try again tomorrow, hopefully π€π
2k is a lot better than my zero k! Well done on getting out there 3 times this week too! Such a worrying time with your dad, no wonder your HR is elevated. Hope you do manage to get your dad into temporary care and that it makes him feel more comfortable. Big hugs x
Thank you, BF - appreciate it! What I need to do now is to get out there and run! Every few days. Even if itβs just for 2K! πββοΈππ
Well done for getting out there Jools and an even bigger well done for deciding to do a shorter run. It sounds like you had a lot going on and any wonder it was so challenging.
After my booster I also had an elevated heart rate which was really unpleasant but ok now thankfully.
I had guessed it was due to the booster! Good to hear of others who experienced it, too. Just about to go out on a run to see if itβs still elevated - Iβll try a slow jog.
