I've been running 2/3 times a week since graduating in November and wondered whether the day will come when I can wake up the day after a run with no aches, or is it par for the course? I do warm up, keep hydrated and I always stretch before and after too. I'm in my 60s and maybe the body doesn't spring back as quickly. The aches don't last until the next run, but it would be great to not have any. Is this a runner's lot I wonder. 🤔

Do the aches ever stop?
Congratulations for keeping going but sorry to hear about your aches. Are they general or specific aches. I find a short walk later in the day will help to ease things off and a painkiller at night. Happy running 🤗
Just general, after exercise type aches. They pass off within a day, and I do gentle yoga on non run days. Just wondered how long the body takes to accept regular running and the muscles comply. Thanks for your reply Granny hugs, still on my way to that elusive 10k.☺️
I'm not an expert, but have you tried a foam roller? It definitely helps my calves and I always drink after a run, I haven't had too many problems (so far)
Thanks Backintime, I'm going to get a roller. I do drink water regularly, assuming you don't mean wine which could temporarily eradicate the aches😂Best wishes ☺️
Hydration is key, try to jot down how much you're actually consuming. We often think we're getting enough when actually we're not.
I'll usually drink another litre once back from a run, usually totting up to 2 to 3 litres a day in cooler weather and much more in hot.
Your muscles need fluid more than anything else.
You could try a high protein snack after exercise which, if your body is needing it, can help with muscle repair. This is more likely to work if it's currently a longer gap between finishing your run and your next meal. A spoonful of peanut butter would even do it.
Thank you JoJo, I drink about 1 and half litres on run days, and close to it rest days. I'll step it up though and see if it helps, only thing is as an old girl I'll probably have to take a 'hedge break' or two on my run!Best wishes ☺️
Good your still going out 2/3 times a week. Is your pains not yours osteoarthritis? My back thoracic spine on T4 sore and lower lumbar l5 .on the walking just now giving mines a rest . Could be the weather it causes joint pains all this rain. Agree yoga supposed to be good and someone said Pilates. Keep going🤗
Hi Doris, no thankfully not arthritic pain, all of that seems much better with exercise. Hopefully, the walking will help you. Sometimes a longish walk seems to loosen up the body and settles down back pain. Plates is also good as you say and there are plenty on YouTube for all abilities.Look after yourself and best wishes ☺️.
