It rained overnight so when we set off this morning the air was fresh and clear. All the wonderful scents of flowers, eucalyptus, pine and damp earth, and best of all quite cool, about 18C.
As usual I started slowly while my husband put our towels ready on the beach for a swim afterwards. I didn't feel quite right, my instep area and my inner knee were hurting, like a tendon was misbehaving. This is a new one. I stopped and did some ankle stretches then carried on up the hill.
It isn't steep and my husband caught up with me by the top. I realised the niggles had gone and when I glanced at my watch I saw I was flying down the hill, effortless, no stress, no excessive heart rate. This really cheered me up. It's not that I aim to go (my version of) fast, it's just fantastic when everything comes together on a beautiful day and you feel like you could run forever.
Of course, once we turned and started back up the hill I slowed down but that's OK too. It felt like I was working but in a good way.
This might be our last run of the holiday or we may be able to get another one in on Friday. NRC has given me a badge for running 6 weeks in a row after the summer hiatus. That nice Mr Garmin has knocked another year off my VO2 age, I'm now 20 years younger than the calendar tells me. Things are pretty good all in all.
The photo is of the junction of the steep hill that leads to where we're staying and the road where our run starts. It doesn't show just how steep it gets!
Next week I'll be back to reality.
