After two tough runs recently admittedly involving hills, and a break from running, my confidence wasn’t great today as I headed out for the NRC Recovery Run with Headspace. I chose a different route this time one where I knew there would be minimal hills involved as I wanted to be kind to myself, plus if I’m being honest I hate hills !
For the first time ever I didn’t do a 5 minute warm up walk, Instead I decided I’d set off at a steady pace, which is what I did and Immediately felt better than I had on my previous two runs. I felt comfortable rather than fatigued, which was a big relief, breathing was in a steady rhythm and it felt nice running along listening to Andy Puddicombe and CB. The sun, which doesn’t often visit Wales, even decided to put in an appearance 🌞🏴👍
Its funny running in a place that played such a big part in your early life growing up and as I ran past various places the memories came flooding back.
I ran past Trinity Chapel where my parents were married, past Mount Pleasant Terrace where my Nan used to live and remembered riding down to visit her on my Chopper bike when I was a kid. I ran down to Crosskeys which formed part of my agency when I worked for the Prudential as a District Agent (the man from the Pru). So, much like my previous run it was another run down Memory Lane.
The NRC Run came to an end at which point I saw a nice park bench with my name on it, so I parked myself there for a while to catch my breath. Rest over and being quite a distance from home I chose the NRC Out And Back With Tom Sachs. But as soon as I began this one I could feel it was going to be much tougher than the first. Tom is described as a visionary sculptor and always runs the same route, having reached 10 minutes he puts a mark on the ground then heads home 🤷♂️. Couldn’t see the point myself, but it was an easy listen and got me home, so served a purpose.
Showered and resting now and reassured my running mojo is thankfully still intact!
Happy Running Everyone 🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃🏼🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃🏼
Just realised not much humour in this post, so here’s a joke for you:
Prisoner: It’s cold in here today
Warder: I’ll put you another bar on

Thanks Ian, yes that NRC Run was just right for today.
it’s amazing how many memories come flooding back, but it’s also strange as if you’ve been away for many years, the familiar becomes unfamiliar, the buildings etc remain pretty much the same but the people associated with them are often gone.
Aww, sounds like a lovely 'run' down memory lane for you. I keep meaning to do the Recovery run with headspace, would you recommend it? The other one, the out and back, I saw Coach Bennett was talking about the other day on Twitter, so I did think about trying that one one.
I have to say Ive had a really tough and tiring week, so I thought I'd do a steady 8km and not worry about my time, but I was pleasantly surprised to beat my previous time , so that was good, although I did over layer and found myself getting very hot on the last 3kms!
I nearly didn’t laugh at the joke and then i did 😀Being back in a place with so many memories must be strange, hills are the devil, even the long upwards slope s round here wear me out.
Nice to find a bench though at the end of the first part of your run
Corny old joke, but glad it gave you a little chuckle Sola.
Being back here is strange but nice though, I think I’ve found a reasonably flattish route now, which is good, plus I know having completed 5k that bench is waiting for me 😁
I wish I could take a trip down memory lane like that. I would love to run my old school x-country route but sadly my old school no longer exists and much of the route has been swallowed up by housing. I'm glad you had a great run down memory lane👍👍👍
Thank You Snail61, I visited my old schools the other week, they look pretty much the same, only much smaller as I’m much bigger. The steps near the gate at the infants school were our Star Ship Enterprise as little kids, and I was Doctor Spock ! That was back in the day when kids entertained themselves using their imagination.
Well done Mr. Phoenix on your run today. But what's with this lack of confidence..... gremlins? Darn things!! Glad you got the reassurance you were looking for. I remember Jo Whiley telling me, don't stop, getting going again is a tough thing to do.... you were brave doing that.
It sounds like it was a lovely trip down memory lane for you 🤗
Pesky gremlins sew the seeds of doubt in most of us from time to time. It was a nice run today though, I chose a much kinder route this time, it’s amazing how many memories you have when you see places you haven’t seen for years.....all changed now of course, makes me feel old !
Aww well done number one Coach ⭐️⭐️⭐️that is brilliant that you had such a lovely run down memory Lane 🧸🏴🧸🏴🧸🏴🧸🏴🧸🏴. You are such a fantastic runner and have achieved so much🏅🏅🏅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌈🦄🌈🦄🌈🦄, proud of you 🏃♂️🥓🏴🏃♂️🥓🏴🏃♂️🏴🥓🏃♂️🏴🥓🏃♂️🏴🥓🏃♂️🏴🥓.
I must look for that run you did - mine was a 45 mins run with Andy P and CB. That sounded a really beautiful run - literally down memory lane. It seems there are a few of us struggling with motivation at the moment? This time of year is a killer for many of us - coming up to the holiday period with such a crazy year behind us. Well, here's hoping you've broken that cycle with that great run!!!
I think so Fionamags, after two crappy runs it was nice to have a good one and I do still enjoy my running a lot and the feeling it gives me. I think this forum definitely helps us all when we have a wobble with the old motivation.
That NRC Run was quite a nice one, give it a go sometime 👍
Bit of a poor one that, I agree with you. I enjoy the Headspace Runs with Andy Puddicombe, they seem to help me relax and enjoy the run a lot more 👍🏃♂️
Lots of memories CP. You did well and I’m pleased you are managing to get out for the odd run. Take care lovely. Look forward to hearing about your next run 😀👍🏻 x
Thanks Sarah, lots of memories when you run in the place you grew up, it’s strange how many come flooding back, nice though. I do still enjoy my running, it’s been a bit erratic lately, but I think that’s been the same for quite a few of us on here, it’s still a big part of my life though😁🏃♂️x
