22m of ascent? Hmm. My standard 2 mile circuit has 19m of ascent in the run section. (The warm up walk itself has 23m of ascent.) My local parkrun has us doing about 45m of ascent over its 5km.
I suspect it's a little bit flatter round your way. π
It's all relative, though. My local hills are probably nothing like the ones Cmoi has in her area.
If I get a little further away the hills increase significantly around here , and a lot more than your local parkrun !as I said , I should have planned it better instead of staying on my usual route
That's one of the reasons why I've always avoided guided runs Instructor57 - I get exasperated by instructions that are clearly unsuited to the context in which I'm running. You got out and did it though, that's the main thing!
You're absolutely right that it's all relative nowster .
I did 205m elevation gain over 11.09km this morning, on what I consider flatter, easy roads and decent tracks. Flatter, because the overall elevation gain comes in at only 1.85%.
Since my experience of hills is unlike that of most people on here, I have a very different perspective. I had to deal with gradients from the start of C25K, and other than when I do silly things like the maratrail, there's nothing to shout about. Where I live, even a 4km road circuit from home comes in at just under 100m elevation gain. I like hills and they're just what I do, that's all.
However the slew of negativity in so many forum posts about hills means that I now rarely respond, unless someone is specifically asking for help and I feel I can offer some constructive advice.
I really appreciate that you often mention figures when describing elevation gain or gradient, because at least that gives an objective measure.
Well hills are never in the right place are they? We have very steep parts of the Downs near us and when. we did hill runs we ran up and down, it was a bit boring and over before we realised, I think if we did it again weβd just go up and up, then at least we could run down again at the end
Well done Ian π. I still say you did right choosing breakfast over park run at the weekend, even if today felt a bit tougher! A good run all in all π.
You ran, and Mr Garmin liked it! What's not to like? My circuit of the woods has 50+ metres of elevation gain but I still hate hills. It's mostly in my head, I know.
