What’s new pussycats, don’t panic, no more Tom Jones syndrome jokes. I haven’t run for a week or so, so I thought I’d better get out there or I’ll be losing my Mojo. I didn’t feel very energised so I selected the NRC Just A Run, 30 minutes in the company of Coach Bennett as usual, which seemed to fit the bill.
I’m currently staying in sunny Wales 🏴 in my family home, so many happy memories. Cwmcarn Scenic Drive is nearby, which seemed the Ideal choice. The drive takes you to the site of the old Cwmcarn colliery where there is a man-made lake and tearooms it’s very popular and very pretty. I can remember seeing the steam engines puffing along the tracks pulling the huge wooden trucks to the colliery when I was a small child.
I started the run and immediately realised there were going to be hills involved on this new route 😕 so I slowed down on these to preserve my energy.
The run felt a bit of a slog and I felt like one of those old steam engines myself, puffing along, but I know that’s just the way it is with running. This being said It was lovely running in familiar countryside, where I’d played as a child. I continued at a nice slow pace stopping occasionally to take a photo. I took one of a metal statue of a crane and later realised I’d forgotten to press ‘resume workout’, so part of my run wasn’t recorded 😬.
I ran around the man made lake passed people enjoying the view and noticed a small Marquee tent set up overlooking it, which I assume was selling drinks as the people there were a having a good time, it was nice to hear people laughing and enjoying themselves, a bit of normality. Heading home felt a little easier, and eventually as I approached the house Coach Bennett brought the run to a welcome close.
Not the best run I’ve had, but as always I’m glad I got out there and made the effort.
Happy Running Everyone! 🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃🏼🏃♀️

Gorgeous area to run and full of those special memories. Slog and hills seem to be part of lots of runs. I’m loving the 20 minute NRC runs and thank you for sparking my interest, always return home feeling excited to do another one.
More people being out and about brings a smile to our faces and hope for a more normal summer ahead
Thanks Sola, I’m really pleased to hear you’re enjoying the NRC Runs and looking forward to the next one, it’s nice to be able to look at your own ‘running menu’ and choose the one that matches the way you feel. 👍🏃♂️🏃♀️
Yes exactly, and lots of different 20 minute runs which have made us think more about breathing, Willow said he has no knee pain either and can keep running for the whole 20 minutes, usually he gets bored, walks a bit and goes back to the car but this is keeping him going, once we’ve done all the 20 minute runs we will do the 25 minute runs and build up slowly, if I fancy a long run I will go out on my own
Oh that’s great, so you’re both using it, nice to hear it’s helped Willow too. I find it makes the run more interesting and enjoyable, I’ve used it since graduating, with a few zombie runs thrown in for fun occasionally. The Headspace ones are nice, I enjoy those.
Haven’t tried those yet but looking forward to them, I just like that I sprint finish feel happy and can’t wait to go again, always before when we did short runs i found them dissatisfying Im more a slog along for hours person, but Willow can’t do that so this suits us both
It is tough, I agree with you, I felt quite sluggish, but I do miss it if I don’t go out and feel so much better when I do.
Nice to run somewhere different, different air quality too in the countryside. That run was in the week, I’m out for another tomorrow as I promised 9weeks2Run I’d accompany her virtually on her second Graduation Run 👍
Hello lovely, Not to sure yet what time I am going to go out. Really hoping for a lay in tomorrow as I have worked 6 shifts in last 8 days and feeling tired. I imagine will be early afternoon. I see you are working 11am till 6pm. Would love to arrange a virtual run with you soon Take care xxx 🥰
Thanks BL64, it was a nice run, although quite tough at the start, the hills were a challenge, but as you say a nice dose of nostalgia is great and you can’t beat a run down Memory Lane.
Nice run for you Couchphoenix in sunny Wales on the Green Green grass of, well not home, you say it wasn't your best run but nevertheless well done, talking about Tom Jones, you didn't by any chance meet Delilah of She's a Lady fame or any (What's New) Pussy Cat on your 🏃🏾 run
Cheers Al no Delilah’s or pussy cats 😂just hills ! The post title was nearly ‘The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of Panting’ !
I haven’t run for a while, so it’s always a bit tough when you get back out there, especially on a new route, felt better for doing it though. Hope all is well with you 👍
I was thinking of a few Tom Jones music titles, things are OK for me thanks Couchphoenix, I have been doing a few runs and more walks for my COGH challenge, on Saturday morning I ran 5K, Sunday and Monday, walked 10K and 7K respectively, tomorrow it will be a 6K walk and I hope to RUN my first 10 K of the year on Wednesday morning.
😂 Tom Jones syndrome is catching Al, sounds like you’re in the early stages!
Thats an impressive distance you’re covering, combining walking and running. Good luck for your 10k run on Wednesday, I’m sure you’ll complete that no problem. If I remember rightly, like me you’re running The Vitality 10,000 at the end of the month, so I’m guessing this will be a practice run for you 💪🏻🏃♂️
It is, you are correct, I am running that London Vitality Virtual 10,000 later in May or early June, actually I have pencilled in on my diary Wednesday June 2nd for that run, so for the next few weeks on a Wednesday I'll run a 10K or longer run for practice.I have already ran 10/10Ks, a few 11 and 12K runs and one ten miles run which was on 22nd July last year.
Lovely nostalgia and nice place to run Couchphoenix. Well done for getting out today grotty weather and all.It hasn’t not stopped raining all day🌧🌧.So hoping to get out Wednesday 🏃♀️😀😀
Thanks Now63. That run was earlier in the week, no sunny Wales today, that’s for sure, it’s been high winds and rain all day typical Bank Holiday weather. I’m out for a run tomorrow, weather forecast sunshine with blustery showers 😬 ⛅️ 🌧
That sounds a good route! It is lovely there. I'm looking for places to run off road at the moment for a future day when I might get time to drive there and run!! About 40 mins from me 😊 Have a lovely stay in Wales.
Thank You Star Pupil 🤩, it was just nice to be back out there again running, even with those challenging hills.
I’m out again today on our virtual Graduation Day run as promised, Sarah Millican is downloaded and will be giving me words of encouragement, which is different as I used Jo as my coach, but it will be a change from Coach Bennett.
Well done on getting out - sounds like a so-so run that was neither great nor gruesome? But its in the legs! You've reminded me that I can't exoect as many good runs if I only run once a week. So thanks for that - must try to get that mojo wirking again.....
Thanks Sarah, just got back having completed my virtual graduation run with 9weeks2Run. I foolishly chose the same route again today and although it’s really pretty, it’s a tough one to run, it’s more suited to walking. Still I did it as promised whilst listening to the dulcet tones of Sarah Millican. So 9weeks2Run is now a Double Graduate, and wait until you read her post and discover her 5k time ! 😮
