Cold start! Car said 2 degrees but with no bag drop I had to venture out in my teeshirt so was very grateful of the warm sun later and of course soon warmed up from running anyway. I set off very steadily which I was pleased with, but also with 461 runners going into a bottleneck - then pavements along busy roads - it was tricky to get past people! After about 4k on the road came the steep 'Star Hill' to get back up to canal level. Then a beautifully sunny, breezy run along the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal back to the park. My time was 1 hour 5 mins so slightly slower than usual but I had gone steadier and had enough energy for a faster finish at the end! My watch at the end asked if I wanted to raise my max heart rate number as I just hit a new number (oops) and this after it already said my nightly recharge had been poor last night so don't do strenuous exercise (double oops). It was a very well supported race with a sad story as this year, it was to remember a member of the local running club who had very sadly died last summer, although happily, his young son came first - having run it in 33 minutes!!! Astounding! I think I still need to up my strength training to makesure I'm strong over longer distances and I will carry on with heart rate training I think to see if I can run without shooting up into high zones!

Yes! Could have done with a bag holder 🙂 funnily enough no-one volunteered to stand around in cold waiting for me !

It’s funny that isn’t it? i wonder why people don’t want to stand around in the cold waiting for us to finish our runs 😂

And to be super fair, who’d want to stand in the cold waiting for us to run our race? Willows daughter plays rugby and right from the start I said sorry but no that’s not what i’m doing on my day off, not standing around in the cold and wet on the edge of a field 😀luckily she’s very understanding

Congratulations! That you had energy for a finale is a great sign (and surely testament to your fitness). Sounds like a fabulous run for you, and a wonderful way to remember someone.

Thank you, I did feel pleased that my minimal strength work is helping (must try harder).

Impressive! Well done, that's a great time.Did the young lad actually run 10k in 33 minutes? I can't even do 5k in 33 minutes, he must have been leaving a trail of fire and smoke at that speed!!!

Super well done, it sounds like a great run. That’s a great time, and brill you had enough in the tank to speed up at the end. Well done on that young man coming first - what a time! It takes me that long to get out the door 🤣. Well done again! 😊😊😊
