I am doing JuJu magic 10k. Should I do distance and then redo doing time? I am 63 and very slow. 5k in 42 mins. Have done it in 38 min but no faster ? Thoughts gratefullyrecieved
What to do: I am doing JuJu magic 10k. Should... - Bridge to 10K
What to do
I have done time first, because I am also a snail. 60 minutes was easier reachable than 10K. For 10K I will be needing almost 90 minutes I think. So until I reach the 10K, I have at least my 60 minutes badge 😉
Thank you good point
Yeah I agree with Hidden . I did the timed version first to get to 60 mins. That took me to about 7k. Then I started at the 7k point of the distance plan and carried on from there. 10k took me 1 hour and 26 mins. I take about 8.5 mins to run 1k. Good luck 👍🏻
At your pace, you're best doing the time variant first, then pick up the distance based variant at the point you've reached with an hour's running.
Copy what others have said but there are different ways of getting to the same end point.
I was similar in time to you with my 5k runs after graduating c25k, possibly a bit slower. I didn't follow the time-based plan but I got myself to 60 minutes non-stop running by gradually extending out one run a week. Then I started the distance based version of the Magic Plan from there
Just for a bit of variety, I went about it the other way! There wasn’t a 60 minute option at the time. I had nothing but distance in my head and I kept the pace right down. For most of us, there isn’t really a choice to make. You are likely hit 60 minutes well before you get to 10k, so it is a welcome staging post really.
Thank you for all your replies
Hi Haughton , as others have said, since you'll need longer than 60 minutes to run 10k and there are two plans, you might as well start off on the 60 minute plan, then move over to the 10k plan.
Happy running, 10k is a lovely distance!
Firstly I wouldn't call your 5k time slow.Second, I would suggest you do the time one first and then move across to the distance- you won't need to start at the beginning of the distance but can slot in where you feel comfortable.
Good luck and happy running!
Hi I was on a similar 5k time. Started off with the time version then when it seemed more achievable change to distance. Doing the plan gave me such a sense of achievement. I had printed the plan and put my times and comments all over it. It ended up sallotaped together as very tatty. But I cannot bring myself to throw it away, as it is such a special memory!!
Thank you very helpful have followed your idea
