I kind of got some cotton shorts and t-shirts I using for the moment, but as the weather gets wetter I start thinking (worry) about what I wearing.

Best to go into a sports shop, get a gait analysis for running shoes and socks to match, then ask for running clothes which are suitable for warm, cold and of course wet conditions.

Warning, if you bought all that at one go it might dent a little off your bank balance. 😊 🏃🏾

Cotton is a no no as it gets wet and stays wet.

Stand by, people love their running gear. You will have loads of information vert soon :)

I started off just buying from the charity shops (apart from shoes and socks) because I didn't want to spend a lot " in case I didn't stick with running"

4 years later, I have more gear than I really need, although not a lot by some standards :)

But definitely not cotton, as others have said.

Running shirts, shirts, maybe leggings when it gets cold. I have a lightweight jacket for rain and also a cycling jacket for very cold weather. Hat and gloves for me but not for everyone.

Merino wool socks are brilliant when it is cold and wet. My feet still get wet but they stay warm (I have tested them many times at our muddy parkrun)

Aldi often have decent running gear and some of Decathlon things are quite good, although their sizing is a bit strange so take care choosing.

Technical fabrics are the way to go. They’re light and also much faster drying (from rain or sweat) than cotton, making your run much more comfortable. I’m currently in running trousers too. Cost need not be high either, my trousers were £13 a pair, my tops started at £5 (apart from the free parkrun one I have). Running socks help a lot too.

I use decathlon gear a lot as it’s cheap and very good quality, their prices mean that I can buy more kit!

Depending on what you are planning, and if you live somewhere cold etc, then it varies. My personal view is that you shouldn't need to spend very much... Unless you want to, then you could get all sorts, it depends on your budget. I am guessing you are sorted for shoes and not having any niggles?

What are niggles? I kind of try and get just what's needed.

Last year I gave some advice to help total novices and one was about running clothes. I have done years of hiking, climbing ,and game fishing and the same applies.

No one should ever wear cotton clothes especially in the colder times of the year.

Cotton retains sweat and when you stop your body temperature drops rapidly, a can start to freeze. Cotton clothes in winter are regarded as a death trap.

Get some manmade fibre tops and shorts/leggings.

I got most of mine at Lidl when they get them in (£7-£8). Aldi/Ktmax might also.

In the winter I wear 3-4 layers.

Hope this helps.

Stay healthy and injury free.

😎

Always technical t-shirts, usually recycled polyester, same with shorts & I prefer long tight shorts underneath to prevent chafing.

My best running shorts are from Decathlon. They were not too expensive and have nice secure elasticated pockets for storing parkrun barcode and fob for car. T-Shirts, I bought some really nice T-Shirts from Regata which were on Sale. Also picked up some Puma running T-Shirts from Sports Direct, they were a bargain. I also have loads of running T-Shirts which I got from running 5K, 6K and 10K road races. Other than that I have a light wind protective jacket, karimor from Sports Direct and a heavier high-viz waterproof jacket for winter running which I picked up in Mountain Warehouse.

Don’t spend a fortune on expensive brand products.

Thanks all, I ended up gettingt some cheep shorts less than a tenner and t-shirt from decathlon and yellow long sleeve karimor thin top from sports direct with wind brake on front for about 20, feels a lot better than what I had before, it was a really windy run this morning but I still felt quite warm even warming up.
