30 minutes dreadmill

Hiya,

After my last run which was three inches short of a nightmare (rain + cold + wind), I had decided that in the case of likewise weather I would hit my treadmill instead of going outside. Work was finished at 15:30, I looked outside plus checked my weather app and a big no no. It was raining and the weather app said the temperature felt like 2°C. The dreadmill it was.

5 min walking briskly before I started running and then 6 parts of 4:30 running + 0:30 walking. I had checked my previous runs and had estimated 5,5 km/h for walking and 6,5 km/h for running which were on the low side of my runs. But on the dreadmill running feels so much harder! Walking I kept to 5,0 km/h and running to the foreseen 6,5 km/h. But it felt so much faster and harder than outdoors, while outdoors I do run a tad faster.

Anyhow, time ticked by slowly, while the dreadmill buzzed. I had put my cd of Lord of the Dance on, though you could not hear much of it because off the noise of the treadmill. And I was sweating! Not normal how much sweat I lost! Outside I hardly sweat at all! Anyhow, my last interval came and went by and I added another 5 mins of walking (the 5 min warm up and cool down are NOT counted in my distance) which I slowed down every minute to lower my heartrate gradually.

It was not fun (the dreadmill is never fun), but I have done my 30 mins of running. I added another 3,31 km (I use a footpod that is calibrated on multiple runs outside, so the distance should be more or less correct) to my Kilimanjaro challenge coming to 16,55 km and to the COGH challenge here.

Fingers crossed for nice weather on Saturday for my second 55 min run!

Cheers, Evy

Well done for hitting the dreaded dreadmill! It’s amazing how much sweat 😓 pours off us. I really hope you can get back outside on Saturday to get closer to your Kilimanjaro challenge. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

They do promise dry but cold weather. So I am rather positive that I will be able to go outside Saturday. Fingers crossed!

Well done must be pretty cold in Belgium. Lovely weather here. I had a ‘dread mill’ but sent back as too roomy and noisy think the neighbours would have complained😂 and scared I fell off. Hope you get out on Saturday and complete your 55minutes😀

I have to admit I regularly grab the handlebars, not always feeling too secure on it. So far the neighbours have not complained (appartment building), but then again I don't use it all that much either. This was the second time since November. Fingers crossed that the frequency of use won't grow 😁

I find that I go slower on a dreadmill for the same effort. You will sweat outside but it dries in the air. Dreadmills are awful. My advice would be to embrace the weather whatever 🤣

There is a reason why it's called a dreadmill 😉

I don't think I've got the willpower to use a dreadmill! Well done!

in reply to Lifluf

Me neither, why do you think there is such a thick layer of dust on it? 🤣
