"Yes, just when you thought it was safe... it's me!" Ha-ha! I didn't do that running, but got a much-desired, treasured chuckle from your words this morning. Also, I LOVE the picture/words!

Hello. My 2020 goal was to run for an hour. I did that in November so set myself another goal to run 10k. I did that in December. For 2021 I would like to run 10k once a month at least. Love ready the inspiration in the posts here. Can I have a 10k badge please?

Hi Oldfloss I’ve just come back from running my first 10k πŸ₯³πŸƒβ€β™‚️. Can I have a shiny new badge please πŸ˜€.

I followed Juju’s magic plan first for time then got up to 10k on distance. Although I’m really pleased I managed it I might drop back to 8km for my long run for a little bit. This takes me about an hour and feels comfortable whereas the 10k really pushed at what is possible for me at the moment energy wise. I think I need to work on my stamina πŸ€”

Hello there, I completed my 10k this morning! Didn't set out to do it today but weather conditions were positively tropical in comparison to last week so I thought well why not. This is the first time I've ran 10k since the 1980s so you can imagine my joy at reaching this distance, never thought I'd be running again but this forum has helped immensely. I don't post much but enjoy and get encouragement from others adventures.

Hi, I’ve now run 60-min+ three times (29 Jan, 2 Feb, and today 21 Feb when I did 65 minutes). But do I qualify if I take some short walk intervals? (They’ve varied between a few seconds and a minute max.) There’s a reason I’m doing this: I’ve been practising full nasal breathing since new year (it’s my running focus/resolution) and the guidance is to slow to walk when needed to keep the breath β€˜light’. Anyway, both @LottieMW and @nowster have said I should, so here I am risking public humiliation... (If you say no, that’s cool; I’m still delighted as pie to be where I am, and today I hit the 8k mark for first time! Whatever, I’m a happy bunny.)

You deserve the 60 minutes badge.. you most certainly do!! Very well done and reaching that 8K...just do what you are doing if it works for you...xx

I completed C25K back in May. Since then I have been working toward running 10K. It was all going very well using one of the Garmin training programmes when I pulled a muscle climbing and had to take a break from running. When I got back to running I have tried to do 3 runs a week usually 2 5Ks and one a bit longer - usually about 7 or 8K. I finally managed 10K - 10.56 in 1:15 on 22 January. I did 10.56K again yesterday but on a completely different route in 1:12:32. Can I have a 10K badge please?

I am not sure whether I want to keep increasing the distances. I think for now I would like to try and do some more 10Ks and try and bring the time down a bit more. Since completing C25K my endurance has definitely improved and I can run 10K fairly comfortably but my 5K times haven't improved any. They are pretty consistently around 32 minutes give or take a minute. I have done a few at less than 30 minutes but have never managed to beat the 29 minutes I did the first time I broke 30 minutes. Any tips on getting faster?

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to coronaclimber

Congratulations and well done ! Speed and distances come with more running and weirdly, running slower encourages faster times...eventually! The long slow runs improve everything; speed, stamina too. The more varied running you do, the better!

coronaclimber profile image
coronaclimberGraduate10 in reply to Oldfloss

Thanks. I think the longer runs are helping because although I am not getting much faster on the 5k runs my splits are much more consistent and I am feeling more comfortable.

When I start running I seem to drop into a rhythm and a pace that feels quite comfortable and at the end of a 5K I feel like I could run a lot further. When I run 10K I tend to run at a similar pace and although I do slow down a bit at the end I can comfortably run 7 or 8K at my normal 5K pace. Although I am comfortable at that pace and don't feel like I am struggling at all I find it very hard to break out of that rhythm and actually increase my pace if that makes sense.

I was wondering if as well as doing the longer runs it might help to do some shorter ones or intervals of trying to run faster just to get a feel for running at different speeds instead of falling into the same pace all the time?

Very happy that I have just run for 62 minutes. Completed 5 miles. Only 8k but hope I qualify for a badge. I signed up for the Cape of Good Hope relay last week and that motivated me to run further. So thanks to all involved.

I didn’t know we could comment and get a badge. I did 10k in November.... haven’t yet repeated it (Xmas/Jan holidays, and I’m in Rio de Janeiro where it’s now REALLY hot), but can I have my badge? I’m hoping to repeat it when the weather cools next month, and for now get back there with some shorter runs.

Hi, it was a glorious morning and I have just completed the last run for Bridge to 60 minutes so please can I have my graduation badge. It's taken me a while to move on but a year ago I was struggling to complete the 20 minutes in Couch to 5K, so the moral is, don't give up! Completed my first 10K today, really pleased as managed to do it in 1:13:50. So pleased I completed it before my 58th birthday next week. Started c25k last year with the intention of sticking to 5ks. Didn’t take too long before I decided to progress on. Think I’ll stay where I am for now but who knows what comes before the end of the year! Can I get my badge? 😁

Did it today. 10.05K. 10K badge please. OK the time will need some working on but at 68 and 50 years of dodging PE I am well and truly chuffed. Finished the day off with a 7K walk as well. What a great way to finish February. My mate Ian says its time to sign up for the Great North Run but I think that may be a K too far!
