Misty morning.

On awakening hearing our teenage son head out for his very early morning run. He now has begun running three times a week, and has kept it up for the last 3 weeks. (I am still amazed!)

Hubby made us a morning green smoothie, and then finally I headed off for a long run, without hubby. He said he overdid his running on our (not)Parkrun Saturday 5k (although he looked so glorious a runner) and is having troubles with tight calf muscles again. He - a good former cross country runner - has been suffering as long as I have been running, so it’s a shame to see his struggles with physios, strengthening exercises, and repeated attempts to build back up using C25k.

So I went off alone, on my meandering, undulating route through fields and country paths. I chose this route to build back up to 10k, as it is so uneven and with it provides a different challenge than last time I build up to 10k. It forces me to completely forget about time. There are a few short sections so overgrown that I have to walk, not being able to see the uneven ground beneath waves of high grass. Only one stile, but other than that gorgeous countryside and no one around. It is actually how I like it.

However, at the 4k mark, before looping back, the path set out in my maps is nowhere to be seen in the hip-high grassed-over fields of green and corn, and that means I do not know how to get to 9k or 10k on my next run. So more map research is needed, as I cannot let this route go. I want it to “work” for me and my 10k runs.

Back home, and after stretches and shower, our last night’s pizza-oven baked pulled pork and salad provided a gorgeous early lunch.

A bit of rest and tea, and now off to do some outside yoga with hubby.

A fabulous bank holiday. Having routes like these, an outdoor space to take my yoga mat, I feel I don’t need anything more and am more than happy making every day count, right here at Home.

Happy “runny” bank holiday everyone!

Brilliant run, sounds idyllic and great your son is keeping up his running too. Great family activity. Happy running 🤗

Yes, I think he learned the lessons of not running every day. We chatted about various training programmes at dinner and he seems to have taken it on board. He told us he is running Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and he has kept that up! Amazing!

Sounds very lovely CBDB! We are spending bank holiday the other side as it were, mowing all those fields with long grass to make silage, our winter feed. It's a very late harvest this year and everyone is getting out to harvest this week as it is the first dry spell! It's a high energy stressful time as so much relies on it.... but hopefully the fields you run in should also be cut soon....well the grass anyway! I'm sorry your husband is struggling so much with running.

Happy holiday, enjoy the sun!

Thank you! Hope your fields mow well. Our grain here looks not yet ready to mow. Fields of grass is another matter, though. So it will be interesting to see if I can find that path once the fields are mown. I can see on Strava heatmaps that many people have used it, in reality it just looks like a field. 🤣🤣 happy harvesting!

Sounds great. I tried to find your route on strava as I'm pretty good at route finding/creation but no route to be found.... 👎🏻

😏 Sorry, I’m a Runkeeper kind of girl. I flirted a bit with Strava, but am staying loyal to Runkeeper as it pocket-tracks my running no matter how many other apps I flirt with (Strava, Zombies, Run, NRC, the list goes on).

If crops have been planted across a public footpath and it isn't feasible to run round the edge of the field, worth reporting to the local Rights of Way officer (there's usually a place on the district level council website for it) Nothing will happen fast but still....

Good to know. I might just do that.

Awwhhh, thank you! I blame it on the runner’s high. 😂😂

Well done, sounds like a nice route despite the overgrown parts!
