Misty morning.
On awakening hearing our teenage son head out for his very early morning run. He now has begun running three times a week, and has kept it up for the last 3 weeks. (I am still amazed!)
Hubby made us a morning green smoothie, and then finally I headed off for a long run, without hubby. He said he overdid his running on our (not)Parkrun Saturday 5k (although he looked so glorious a runner) and is having troubles with tight calf muscles again. He - a good former cross country runner - has been suffering as long as I have been running, so it’s a shame to see his struggles with physios, strengthening exercises, and repeated attempts to build back up using C25k.
So I went off alone, on my meandering, undulating route through fields and country paths. I chose this route to build back up to 10k, as it is so uneven and with it provides a different challenge than last time I build up to 10k. It forces me to completely forget about time. There are a few short sections so overgrown that I have to walk, not being able to see the uneven ground beneath waves of high grass. Only one stile, but other than that gorgeous countryside and no one around. It is actually how I like it.
However, at the 4k mark, before looping back, the path set out in my maps is nowhere to be seen in the hip-high grassed-over fields of green and corn, and that means I do not know how to get to 9k or 10k on my next run. So more map research is needed, as I cannot let this route go. I want it to “work” for me and my 10k runs.
Back home, and after stretches and shower, our last night’s pizza-oven baked pulled pork and salad provided a gorgeous early lunch.
A bit of rest and tea, and now off to do some outside yoga with hubby.
A fabulous bank holiday. Having routes like these, an outdoor space to take my yoga mat, I feel I don’t need anything more and am more than happy making every day count, right here at Home.
Happy “runny” bank holiday everyone!
