My original plan today was to repeat the 8K run I did on Sunday. Unfortunately, I’ve been feeling rough this week with a sinus infection and have had to take antibiotics. I wanted to run yesterday but was too fatigued and ill to do so. As is ever the case with me, most illnesses I have go straight to my lungs and so it has been with this one too. However, after taking the meds yesterday I woke up this morning thinking a run might improve matters. I took my temperature (36.6) and felt ok. I’m sure I don’t have Covid symptoms but I set my NRC app to run 5K as it was clear I would not be up to 8K as I’m not 100%
As soon as I walked out the door I knew it was going to be tough. I almost turned around and came straight back as there was heavy rain, but the runner in me wanted to run. The first 2K was tricky but I was managing ok. I kept off the Heath today as I knew my lungs wouldn’t cope with the inclines, I had enough trouble with the first 10 minutes where there are two. I managed to get almost to Kentish Town when a dust cart with multiple bin men blocked my route. As far as I knew I had only just completed 3K and as I hadn’t run on the Heath I was going to finish the 5K with multiple loops at my usual end spot. However, the bin men made me take a detour where I immediately stepped in a huge puddle and both my feet were soaked. My lungs weren’t feeling great and I was fatigued and so I decided to bail. I hate doing it but I have nothing to prove to myself. I ran 8K at the weekend. This was to do with illness and bad weather. Enough was enough and I walked to Gails for my skinny latte (extra hot) and a pain au chocolate, guilt free.
I will run again on Sunday, assuming my health continues to improve. The distance will be gauged by how I’m feeling.

Poor you, antibiotics will hopefully be working soon but in the meantime take it easy. I really hope it's not covid, too much around, please do go and get tested for your sake and the sake of everyone else, if nothing else you'll reduce the %of tests returning positive results but this isn't something to just cross your fingers about. Take care 🤗
Thank you. I’m not crossing my fingers, it’s definitely not Covid, I don’t have any symptoms: no temperature, no headache, no loss of smell or taste, no cough and no pain in the body. It was an infection in my sinus which is clearing up and my lungs are just a bit heavy. Believe me if I thought I had Covid I’d be having a test right this second. I’ve shielded myself and kept away from people to such a degree that it would be almost impossible for me to have it.
Delighted to hear, well you know what I mean, not delighted that you have such a bad infection but at least it’s one you can understand. Really wishing you a speedy recovery 🤗
That sounds really hard work Dodgy and I think perhaps the dustbin lorry forcing you to shorten your route was probably fortunate! Glad you got home safe and hope your recovery is swift!
Good job for getting out there. I struggle with my breathing too. Got a lot better in the summer I thought as I was getting fitter. But since Christmas really hard to breathe. I have concluded it is the cold air makes it worse. Don’t overdo it, sounds like you listened to your body. Keep getting out so it is regular and part of your routine and once that lovely spring comes we will all want to be out running for longer. Hope you feel better soon👍
Glad that you called a halt earlier than planned as it sounds like you need to give yourself a bit of a break. Good that you listened to your body - like others have already said. I would be well pleased with that time as well - ill or otherwise!!
