Hi all November Questers, how did your second November Quest week go?, my week went OK, started Saturday at Drumpellier Parkrun, I walked with my daughter for the first Kilometre then I ran the other 4, my daughter walked the whole way, liked it so much that she is considering registering with parkrun so she can get a barcode and a time as well although she will walk, not run, I also went a shorter 5K run last Wednesday compared to the previous week's almost Half Marathon run, yesterday Sunday and today Monday I went a 12K and 14K walk respectively. Just a reminder of what Quest is, to run 3 times a week, to slowly increase distance and train for a specific race and add stretch and strength exercises to your weekly routine I wish you all the very best for your 3rd week of your November Quest.
November Quest week 3: Hi all November... - Bridge to 10K
November Quest week 3
Hello there! I’m pleased your daughter is going to get herself a parkrun barcode. Well, my quest this week is to do 3 short runs, plus some exercises I found to help with the naughty niggles I’ve been experiencing. It means I have to buy a stability ball, which is annoying, as I’m sure I used to have one somewhere! All the best 😊😊😊.
Hello Frenc, yes she hopes to get a barcode early next year, good luck to you on running 3 short runs as well as other exercises, I just hope that will stop those niggles annoying you that you have been experiencing recently, I don't have a stability ball but I hope it will help you with those niggles. 😊 🏃🏾 👍
How lovely to walk run Drumpelier parkrun with your daughter. I hope she gets her barcode and enjoys parkrun. I have a barcode but have never done a parkrun. Maybe I will try it one day.
I was extending my distance and did get up 7 miles by October but my longer runs, have petered out since my holiday last month. Now the days are shorter I find it hard to fit in any long runs. And I don't want to put myself under any pressure.
So my main Quest will be to keep ticking over and just enjoy my running, and
I still need to properly try out my new chest torch! 😁
It seems that going to parkrun is similar to starting couch to 5k. I downloaded the podcast about 6 months before starting it. But once you do it for the first time, you realise it’s not as scary as you thought! Why not go one Saturday and just watch Birdlady64? You’ll see lots of people like you having fun. 😉
You are doing very well Birdlady64, just keep enjoying your running no matter how long or short the runs are, well done on that 7 miles run in October. My daughter did enjoy the parkrun /walk at Drumpellier Parkrun last Saturday and hopes to go to more parkruns soon.
Hello Al you've had a good week and great your daughter is walking parkrun, that's exciting. I've run a bit more this week ending with my tough run at the weekend, this coming week we are heading north so my quest for the week is to run in a different county
Happy questing everyone
Congratulations on that tough run at the weekend, hope you recovered very quickly, enjoy your journey north and running in another county, when I go to parkruns, of the regular four I go to, three are in different counties.
My quest this month continues to be to try to get back up to the level of activity I was at in August.
I'm getting better. Last week I did three 2 mile runs, an 8km run and parkrun.
I've done 5km today and have already plotted out possible local 10km, 14km and HM routes. No parkrun, even though there is a local one here, as we have to be out by 10am.
You are still running very well nowster, congratulations, you ran exceptionally well in August, getting back to that amount of running takes time, you don't want to rush things, otherwise you will get injured, that's good in planning different routes for your running, good luck.
Hi AlMorr and fellow questers. Well done on your runs this week and am glad to hear that your daughter will be doing Parkwalk. I've been injured this week after my 18km+ run last Sunday when I managed to sprain my ankle and haven't been able to do any exercise since. It's not getting any better so I don't think I will be well enough to do my Half Marathon race on Saturday so am really disappointed after having done 18 weeks training for it. Still my training will not have gone to waste providing I recover soon and there will be other half marathons. Its just that this one was so convenient for me - nearby, easy to park and a flat course. It's not easily transferable to a similar event either. More than just not being able to do the half marathon I have missed being able to run - running makes me feel good! I hope I won't be on the IC much longer. Good luck with your week 3 quests whatever they may be. Happy running! 🤗
Sorry about your injury Jogger22 after your 18K + run on Sunday, I hope you rest well and can get back to running as soon as possible, especially having to miss that HM on Saturday, certainly too soon after sprainning your ankle, so flustrating after all the training you did, once you have recovered from the injury take the runs slowly, perhaps do a few early weeks of C25K then back to longer runs.
Thanks AlMorr you're very kind. Which early weeks of C25K do you recommend and is there a pdf of the plan somewhere on the c25k forum? I've tried searching on the internet but don't want to click on any dodgy links...
If you wish to repeat some of the runs of C25K you could start at week 3, or if you want, week 1, running 3 times a week I. e, run1 of week 1 on a Monday, run 1 of week 2 on a Wednesday and run 1 of week 3 on Friday and so on but it's up to you how you feel after your injury, the last thing you want is not another injury.
Sorry to hear about your injury Jogger. I hope you aren’t on the IC for too long.
thanks Dexy5 you're very kind 🤗 Hope you're well
I am , thank you. Give that ankle plenty of rest then perhaps a physio can recommend exercises. I have a weak ankle following a cycle fall and wish I’d sought advice earlier.
Hi AlMorr, it is great to go out for run with your children. My daughter is not a runner, my son runs seldom now but is still fast when he wants to be. I have yet to go on a run with him due to his work pattern etc. I had a wonderful 5k run with my granddaughter at Halloween and I might ask her to come with me on a fun run this weekend in a forest park.
I have tried to get back to stable training this month after my streak of events from August to October. I ran a half marathon distance 2 Sundays ago, a few shorter distances and reps, 2 parkruns and a 30k slow run yesterday.
I see that there are a couple of 10k running events recently advertised in my area and will most probably sign up for them.
I have also been itching to try a marathon and was thinking of Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon in Cork but ruled it out because of the distance and it would take me 6 hours plus to get there. However, I saw their medal launch on Facebook and was sold... I will travel up there the day before and probably stay the night of the marathon as well.
It will be my first marathon so will be going at it steady I hope with the only expectation of finishing. I have been steady enough with marathon training since early summer and was ok for yesterday's 30k and I still have 2 weeks left of training.
I wish you all the very best for your marathon Freecloud, your training is going fine, that 30K will help you to get used to long distance running, my daughter is 43 years old, has two children, a boy and girl, the next time she goes to parkrun she might take her husband and the children as well if she can get them up early on a Saturday morning, once again I wish you good luck for your marathon in a few weeks time.
Hi AlMorr, so good to read your post and many others about how we runners spread the delights of running. We are a country of runners, it seems. Well done!
My 18-year old son is at the moment an on-and-off runner, but at least he knows what he can draw from in his older life.
I missed the last quest week, but I’ve been diligently working my way back to running and rowing after a pulled calf muscle. So from that first week on the injury couch, I slowly but steadily focussed on recovery, and these quest helped me with that:
✅ Week 1 (this week): yoga and targeted exercises (upper back; calf muscles)
✅ Week 2: walk, yoga, targeted exercises and gentle rowing
✅ Week 3: run and row, targeted exercises, maybe yoga when I can fit it in
So I simply need to keep building up my running. I’m using jeffing methods to get me back. Yoga has been great for my back.
Thanks for hosting the quest.
A country of runner's, in the UK there are a lot of runner's especially at big events like The Great North/South runs, The London Marathon and of course parkruns, well done on your November Quest CBDB, as well as running you also love yoga, a great combination to help you with your exercises and of course your runs, nice to know that yoga helps your back, onwards and upwards for your November Quest ✅👍😊
Hello Al and fellow questers.
I’ve been back to Pilates every week and it’s getting a bit easier with each session. ✅
I only managed 2 runs last week because I missed yesterday’s run because I was still feeling a bit weary and achy following my autumn booster but it’s beginning to wear off now.
I was really pleased to run my first 10k since September in the lovely sunshine, with UpTheStanley . The tide was high and the wind was 30mph so a bit of a battle running against it , but so invigorating. ✅
My other run was a home parkrun, which also involved volunteering as course checker, on my bike. I’m thinking the cycling was a good warm up. ✅
See you all next week.
Hi Dexy5, glad to hear that you enjoy your Pilates class every week and doing the two runs last week, of course after getting a booster jab will make anyone a little weary, good that with each pilate session it gets easier, nice✅👍once again congratulations on completing that 10K in the wind, well done 🏃🏾
You've been busy AlMorr !
My Quest? Hmm, I've been having a lot of fun so the goals have sort of slipped.
- run 3 times a week: not quite, I've been doing some long walks instead. It's so hilly round here that some muscles have been reminding me why I choose to live in one of the flattest places in England. So, I've been active but just not run.
- do at least one Parkrun: no Parkruns round here but I did 4.9 km on Sunday so I suppose that counts as a Not Parkrun, given that my local Parkrun only registers 4.88km on the NRC app.
- do a couple of longer runs (around 8 km): with these hills? You're kidding 😂
- signing up for the Southend Rudolph Run on 11th December: I'm waiting until the end of the month so I can check the weather forecast!
And finally - don't hurt myself! : so far so good. Some of the paths I've walked have been very uneven, rocky, slippery, steep. A couple of times I thought I'd go over but managed to regain my balance. There's as much luck as judgement with this goal.
Happy Questing
I'll be honest with you Yesletsgo, since graduating from C25K on the 18th of June 2018 most of my running has been twice a week, usually on a Wednesday and Saturday, I have rarely ran 3 times a week and never on consecutive days, I am sure if I had started running at 41, not 71 I would be running regularly 4 times a week as I did 🚴 cycling when I was 41.Good luck for your Southend Rudolph run on the 11th December.
Well done Al! We need some photographs of that Park Run !
Inspiration for us! Especially me.. I am struggling a tad with my runs right now for one reason or another! It's been a tough couple of weeks.
I am getting them in, but they are short... but , as Laura used to say, any run is better than no run! Off to the Coast soon so, I hope, weather permitting to get some in.
I am using the NRC Guided runs a lot... for the mental as well as the physical support... and I am drawing much from them... Struggling is not failure... and an easy run is not a waste of time. To allow struggle is to show strength and a run that allows you to ease back is not failure.
My one constant is my strength and stamina routines... they rarely fall away. I need to keep the old body supple and happy!
As ever, Al, slow and steady and I will get to where I wish to be !
Happy safe Questing, everyone ! x
I am very annoyed Oldfloss, unfortunately there were no photographs taken at Drumpellier Parkrun the day I was there with my daughter BUT 200 photograps were taken the following week, just last Saturday 12th November when I ran at another parkrun, there are 200+ photographs for event #94 on Drumpellier's Facebook Page if you wish to look at them but I am NOT there.
Sorry about your struggling at running, I am sure that won't last long, at least you are getting some runs completed, those guided NRC runs will help you a lot, never use the fail or failure word as you have told all the runners over the years, the strength and stamina routines will also help you with your running.
I ran once and got covid. That wasn’t in the plan! I’ve felt really rough with it this time. Last time I was still going for long walks and short runs. This time I’ve hardly got off the sofa. Today I’m feeling more human and the cough has finally calmed right down.
So, the questing has been on pause and I’m going to amend this week’s plan to walk three times if I feel like it. That’s going to have to do for now and I’m ok with that.
Sorry about you getting Covid MissUnderstanding, it's now like flu, here to stay, that's the second time you have got it and you say it was worse than the first time, I just hope that you recover from it soon and you can run again, I am glad that your cough has finally calmed right down. Although I run twice a week, Saturday and Wednesday, I also walk a lot too, a long walk on a Sunday morning, sometimes on a Monday and Friday as well, on a Thursday morning I am a member of our local walking group under the motto of 'Health walks Scotland' I go a 4K walk around a part of the same route that I run my midweek run on a Wednesday
Thanks Al! Will be glad to see the back of this pesky bug. Been up coughing overnight so only managed about two hours sleep at a time. It’ll be a very gentle walk today I think!
Good to discover you’re a big walker too. I’ve never been part of a walking group but I bet that’s great fun.
It's a little like a parkrun, when the walk is over we all go into the local leisure centre and get a cake and coffee.
The correct way to end any good walk/run! ☕️ 🍰
