Happy Saturday everyone. It's the weekend again. And I really need it. I have had a couple of really busy weeks with work and sorry I have not been hanging out here as much for that reason. I was sick of my PC and phone after my days work and just stayed off them both.
I have also not ran as much, I missed a run on Thursday so I am going to plan on doing a longer run this morning. It is a nice morning here. I am going to stick on a podcast and just head off out for a nice gentle run and aim for 10K. I will try to make up for Thursday.
For anyone new and reading this wondering what is going on, a group of us here run 5K every Saturday morning and we pretend that it is our parkrun. We just run, jog or walk 5K and we pop back here onto this thread afterwards and let everyone know how we got on. It is just a bit of fun.
So happy running everyone and have a great weekend.

Morning everyone! 😀 I ran mine yesterday. Time insignificant, but simply running again after being released from my self isolation was joyous enough. Anyway, I slowly jogged my 5k in 41:27. No speedy attempts from me for a week or two, but I’m relieved to be back and seemingly unscathed. 🙏🏻
I have to admit, I far prefer running at that pace Jell! 😅
Yes my senses are returning slowly. Taste is still very faint, if at all, but this morning I sprayed my favourite perfume and could definitely smell it a little. 🙏🏻
Thanks Damienair for mentioning the virtual 5k, That sounds fun. I’ll post mine. It was 27:52.. I’ve had a busy week too. Late night virtual parents evenings. I’m working on getting to 10K & going out for my first 8K , running in the rain this morning.
Morning Damien and all (not) parkrunners - I did mine yesterday this week. I hadn't run since Sunday after a recurrence of the stomach bug I had last week, but by Thursday all seemed to be well again. Also I was due to have my flu jab this morning and the weather forecast was somewhat inclement!
So I enjoyed my run yesterday - the rain was threatening but didn't come to anything. I decided to give the slow running a miss and the result was a pleasing 29.32, with every km (just) under 6 mins.
Well done JP; especially for fitting your run in before flu jab day!! Alimentary ailments do not go well with running; especially longer distances!! Glad you are feeling better. 👍
Morning Damien and fellow (not) parkrunners! Cool, grey and threatening rain here in Lincolnshire, so out before I got wet. Strava said 32.04 for 5.02km but 31.54 at 5k. As I haven’t managed less than 32 minutes for weeks, I’ll take the latter thank you 😊 Happy running peeps!
Good morning everyone, we couldn’t call ours a (not) parkrun because we are sticking with 30 minutes at a time, but we ran in our usual park and so it seems did everyone else, never seen so many groups of people standing around across the path but we managed just over 3k of dodging people in 30 minutes
Hi damienair, hope you have a good run this morning. I am back on the IC again 😭. Same problem as before (peroneal tendon) I have not run this week and I am planning resting it next week too. It’s not as bad as it was before thank goodness. It doesn’t hurt when walking or cycling just running. I am doing the exercises the physio recommended last time and massaging it too like she showed me. Hopefully I will be able to try a gentle run next Saturday. Not sure whether I will be able to do 5k. In the meantime I am cycling loads to try and maintain fitness. Happy running everyone.
Hello Damienair and (not) parkrunners. As I ran the Poppy Run 10k on Wednesday I have taken the last 5k as my (not) parkrun time. UTS said I couldn’t just pick out the best 1ks. ☹️ So the score on the door is a nice slow 37:11. I went out yesterday and did a JogRunSprint session, then made it up to 4k. Not the best choice of run as it was far too busy and my legs were still tired.
Hah well I was feeling quite chuffed with my run until I read cheekys post. Where she ‘slowly jogged 41:27 “ and I was going like hell and managed 41:29 which I though was pretty good for me. 🤣🤣
Never mind it WAS good for me ( as I’ve been lately anyway) and I felt pretty strong) . There was a slight mizzle which is my optimum running weather and I just felt good and happy to be running.
What DID annoy me,and this is the second time it has happened on a faster run, my flipping Garmin didn’t pick up the GPS!!! So no map and no idea if I hit any PRs. I’m sure I would have as I was flying at a couple of points. Oh well. I know it was a good run and that’s all that matters.
Do you make sure you have a signal before you run Limberlou? I start setting mine when I leave the house so that it’s ready by the end of the warm up walk.
Yeah I start setting mine when I leave the house and it usually sets before I start running but I forgot to check this morning and just assumed it had - like it usually does UNLESS I’ve had a particular good run. Oh well!! Lesson learnt!! I KNOW I was faster it’s just nice to get the bling come up in Strava
Good morning Damien, it was yesterday that I ran my 35th virtual/22nd (not) parkrun in a disappointing time of 36.08, I am always a bit disappointed if it's not sub 35 minutes, anyway, nevermind, I had to go carefully as there were a lot of leaves which perhaps slowed me down a little, (excuse)
This morning I walked my home parkrun course as it is exactly 8 months to the day since I ran the last official parkrun there on March 14th, I saw 12 runners going round the course.
Well done Al. I'm a little disappointed with all my runs over the past few months. It is hard, I have no drive really without anything specific to train for. But at least I am still getting out there. And so too are you. You have been amazing over the last 8 months. It was just a nice easy training run.
I still enjoy running, not too concerned about the time, this afternoon I am about to watch on Sky Sports Live GGA All-Ireland Senior Champion Hurling, it is a Qualifier Cork V Tipperary
The forecast for this morning was heavy rain, but although grey it has stayed dry until just a few minutes ago. By this time we were home, having completed our 6km run plus walks to and from the start and a detour to collect our 2nd breakfast.
Nothing much to report really, apart from seeing a flock of long-tailed tits. I was happy to see them because we used to see dozens alongside a nearby field until all of the trees and hedges were removed for some unknown reason.
Why do they have to do that Sue? We used to have the most wonderful Starling murmuration when we first moved here, then the conifers they lived in were cut down...
I don't know. The site was historically a garden centre, then just grazing for years. Then it was bought by someone who cleared it and fenced it before being told that he wasn't licenced to accept landfill on the site so he had to have it all taken away after complaints of lorries turning up to dump soil and rubble. It may have changed hands, the fence went, new bushes have been planted where the trees used to be. Topsoil (possibly) has been delivered but there is no other apparent use of the land.
I popped out this morning and incorporated my (not)parkrun into a longer run. In the end I only managed 7K. But I was happy with that. My 7K finish time was 45:59 and I ran at an average pace of 6:34 mins/km. I think my 5K time was around 32:30. I enjoyed the run.
Know exactly where you’re coming from Damien, my job is also hours and hours at the PC too and you have to give your eyes and brain a rest.
Not sure what happened today. Had a horrible few days with family issues and I think it really fed into my feet today. I got up feeling refreshed (I’m afraid the parkrun quiz has been sacrificed for a lie in these days). Bit of faffing as usual and off we went.
We started off quick. It was damp and fairly windy but I felt bouncy and the muscles felt good. Hit a wall of wind in the 2nd km just as we went up the hill and so negative splits went out the window but I hit the accelerator as we took in the final 2km.
Katnap as usual went zooming off and I was nearly scuppered by 3 cars going in and out of the petrol station and some pedestrians as I approached the final corner but fate was on side and there were suitable, safe gaps as I got through both.
I so wanted to stop as I really felt I was giving it my all and I was starting to feel a bit sick but I got to the end, slowed down, hit the button and watch said 27:24. When I loaded it up to Strava I’d pb’d 5k at 27:13 which equals my Stratford parkrun pb - very happy with that even if I am slightly scared by my max bpm (not sharing, too scary!!).
Wow. Fantastic running Tail Chaser. That is a great pace and I am delighted that you got a (not)parkrun PB and matched an actual parkrun PB. Super effort. Well done again as your running has been so consistent.
Morning Damien! This is going to get messy as my HM plan (well Roseabi's really) has started to up the distance on Saturdays; so it was a 37:55 6k this week. If I knock off the slow first lap, that leaves a 31:12 5k (using Dexy5's patent formula). People were socially distant but really friendly this morning; an early sample of the seasonal goodwill amongst the wood walkers (bit Game of Thrones that!) which always shines through once we get into November. It was overcast, windy, cold and threatening to rain; I absolutely loved it 🙂. Flat white and brownie to go to top it off. Perfect!!
I love that you’re back to your flat whites and brownies again BC! HM has your name written all over it. Do you have a race planned, real or virtual? 🏃♂️
A race never crossed my mind cheeky. I set out to build up to HM distance again to prove to myself that my knee issue is under control. So far so good 🤞
Good morning Damienair.I know what you mean about work at the moment_hours in front of the pc and no chance for the occasional flurry of office banter to relieve the stress. Thank goodness for running.
I had a tough time doing my 4k short run mid week so wasn't looking forward to today's run but these posts really motivate me so thank you for keeping it going.
Again my 5k today was the last 5k of my 8k run on Juju's Magic Plan. I was really pleased as it came in at 32:20 _just under a minute slower than my PB 5k which I ran on Monday.
Very well done and great pace especially considering you were doing it as part of an 8K run. Yes I am the same. I need this to kick myself out the door. I ran on Tuesday evening but skipped my run on Thursday. I just did not feel like it. I might attempt another slow 7K tomorrow. I don't think I would be still running over these strange times if not for this amazing forum.
But hey, missing one run isn't so bad. So long as another comes along.
I look forward to the time when I can run 2days in a row at the weekend if I miss one during the week but need to get a bit stronger first_really trying to avoid injury!
I was intending a nice, easy relaxed 5k today, possibly carrying on to 6 or 7k if I felt good.
Following from the theme of World Kindness Day yesterday, I decided on NRC A Thank You Run, which is a 45-minute time-based run. I also decided not to check my watch on this run and try and run by feel without worrying at all about pace.
I know this route very well and was inside the final kilometre when coach Bennett gave a time shout-out and it suddenly dawned on me that I could be on for a PB on this run! Whoa! I didn’t intend for that to happen! That can’t be possible – this was meant to be an easy relaxed run!! 😯
I didn't dare look at my watch, in case it wasn't true but I found something extra for the final part of my run. I know the exact point of the 5k mark and I was giving it everything I had.
5k! Yes! I stopped my watch and glance down and the first two digits are a 3 and an 8! 😲
Somehow I restarted the watch by accident – 😱 and by the time I stopped it again Garmin said 39.03. Gah! 😡
Even so, this run was my first sub-40-minute 5k, something I was beginning to wonder would ever happen, and beats my previous PB by 2min 10sec. 😁
After synching to Strava, I'm given 5 best efforts and 5 segments for this run, including personal records for 5k, 1 mile and 1k
. The final 0.5km coincides with a Strava segment which has my pace logged as 6.57! I’ve never had anything starting with a 6 before!!!
It was a nice surprise as I've not been trying to go faster, and after my 10k the last runs have all just been easy going 4/5k. I was expecting this run to be another of those,
My first k today started fast for me but then went into dodging mode so missed a good time, i’ve downloaded zombies run and going to do that tomorrow, can’t get it on garmin though so probably won’t stick with it,
Think I’m in my 5th week post-covid running. Just got back to 5k. This mornings run was 35’00” on a route with hills (ok inclines, but it lasts between 3.5-4.5km in). I’m still absolutely done in after 5k but happy do be back upto that level tbh.
Only had covid mild, and it still exhausted me for weeks. Wish Nowster’s father in law the best for a recovery.
On W3 of Juju’s Magic Plan. Today was my 30 minute run, so I used the local Park Run course and counted the 5 minutes warm up/cool down...and continued walking until I hit 5k.
This was my 4th (not) Park Run, and I’m pleased to say I shaved some time off with a total of 46:58 on Runkeeper 😊
I timed the 30 minutes on Strava...managed 3.6k in 31:43, all splits under 9 minutes 👍🐌🐢🏃🏻♀️🍁🧡🍂
I ran 7k on Wednesday, extracting the final 5k of it for my (not) parkrun time. I set off again on Friday hoping to just do 5k and better the time I had. But my legs were made of lead and I stopped after 30 minutes. Hoping to go out later this morning once a work an has arrived - crowd volume on the seafront running routes here at weekends has gone through the roof again with lockdown.
Just been out for my Wk 6 R3 today, it was muddy on the canal towpath so I took it steady. I had a wonderful run with relaxed breathing and no wanting to stop, just lovely flowing running. I included my warm up and warm down walks to make the 5k so my time was 45.27 (long warm up to get to the canal), but what matters more to me is how much I enjoyed it and how good it felt!
