I hope you are all well and in good form during these ever extended strange times. It is Saturday, which means it is (not)parkrun day. Weather was shocking here yesterday, but it is much nicer today. So I am looking forward to running my 5K today and also looking forward to having a nice scone and a coffee afterwards. I am also looking forward to reading all your post run reports later.
If your reading this for the first time, welcome. All you have to do is Jog, Walk or Run (and any combination of the 3) for 5K at your own pace and pop back here under this thread afterwards and let us all know how you got on. Everyone is welcome, so don't be shy.
So Happy Weekend and Happy running, walking, jogging, chuffing, crawling etc.

Good morning Damien, this morning in light rain and drizzle with the temperature at +6C, compared to - 6C last Saturday I ran my 44th Virtual Parkrun, 31st (not) parkrun, on that particular course only 2 minutes away from home I have never ran a sub 35 minute 5K, that still stands as my time this morning was 36.51, perhaps next week I'll be back to my route around the loch where 99%of my runs have been sub 35 minutes, JUST passed the age grading at 50.57%, it was nice running with no ice or snow to avoid.
Well done Al. Just getting out there and running at all is a win at the moment. I've given up worry about pace and time. I'll wait for parkrun to return before I start worrying about pace etc. I'm just back in from run now. I'm going to be cooking dinners now for a while. Batch cook a couple of dinners for the week ahead. Chicken Curry and then a Tomato sauce with meatballs.
Morning Damien, our weather here has been the reverse of yours. I took one look at today's forecast (wind and rain all day) and wimped out! So I did my (not) parkrun yesterday, when it was sunny, if a little on the chilly side - I had to watch out for a few icy patches. Scores on the doors - 28.51.
Good run JP, I am getting a bit more choosy about the conditions I will run in; if waiting a day offers a better run I will go for it!! Nice pace as ever. π
Nice time and well done. Yes I was supposed to go for a 5K walk yesterday evening and wimped out too. It was blowing a gale and very heavy rain. No way I was going out in that. So I drank some nice craft beer instead.
Today is my birthday and Iβd love to be able to say I had a wonderful celebratory PB run in the sunshine with no rain, wind or mud. I had none of the above! It was raining, windy and very muddy, although Iβm beyond caring now and it was great fun. ππ Typically the sunβs out now. π
My times nosedive in conditions like that but who cares? Today I squelched along in 39:54! Each step felt like the brakes were going on - but hey itβs character building! π€£
Oh, I got a wonderful medal display hanger from my kids. And gin. And weβre having takeaway for supper from our favourite Thai restaurant later. π
Happy Birthday to the cheekiest chipmunk everπππ₯πΎπΈ. Have a socially distant blast!!Running in the mud is an heroic effort. For the first time ever I have taken to the roads since New Year; canβt wait to get back to trails! Epic effort as ever cheeky π
Iβd like to say I chose the muddy option BC. In all honesty I donβt have a choice if I want to be conscientious and stay as local as possible. Unlike the first lockdown when there were no cars around and our road was safe to run on, this time itβs still really busy. Hmph!
But thank you! It does make you feel epic after a run like that. Now the food and drink fest begins! ππ€£
A very happy birthday to you Cheeky, indeed a PB sub 30 minute 5k (not) parkrun in a light breeze with a 15C sunny temperatures would have been wonderful, however, that not withstanding you still enjoyed your birthday run, enjoy the rest of your birthday π with some birthday cake if you wish to. π
Happy birthday cheeky. We had to go for a drive to charge up my car battery yesterday so drove to QECP and walked the parkrun route. Gee it was muddy. Glad we were in walking boots and not running it.
I ran down by the river just before lockdown and immediately regretted my decision. This year has been so wet. Wetter than last year Iβm sure. π¦π¦π¦
Happy birthday Cheeky and congratulations on your persistence (bloody mindedness π ) Hope you got Mr Cheeky to clean your shoes - they looked extremely claggy! Enjoy your gin and cake π₯π
Thanks Sandie. π No, sadly Mr Cheeky wouldnβt go near my shoes (funny that!). Theyβre upside down on the radiator waiting to be bashed off in the morning, ready for another muddy run! πββοΈ
Oh a very Happy Birthday to you Cheeky. I wish you a lovely evening, enjoy your Thai Takeaway and Gin. And very well done on going out for a run in those conditions. Happy Birthday.
Morning Damien - love the photo! No report from me this week as Iβm on the IC with a grumbly hip at the moment; fortunately I have a physio appointment next week so hopefully things will be ok after that!
It was a surprisingly nice morning, the ice has melted - cleared away by the heavy overnight rain which has passed over and it wasnβt too cold. I even had to remove my hat and gloves.
I had a strangely fast section from the bottom of the hill. I wondered how long I could keep it up but then worried that it was too early in the run and I might run out of steam. So I slowed down a bit, but obviously not too much because my 5k was 36.06.
I actually ran 6k but my official VRun Club time picked up from my Garmin was for 5k so that is the time I will use for my (not)parkrun.
My fastest Saturday run since October and a VRun Club pb.
I think I earned my 2nd breakfast this morning.
If anyone wants to join me on the Saturday VRun here is the link
2nd ParkRun for me. 34.48 according to Strava although I think my official ParkRun time is less. Managed to pace myself better today with 7.43, 7.11, 7.11,6.23,6.23. No low heart rate training for me today π€£ β€οΈπββοΈ
First 5k since New Year's Day!!!! I was in "5k or bust" mode again; I can't let a dicky calf keep me on the couch. My fitness has suffered. Today was another road run; the forest trails are treacle! Only fit for a chipmunk! One problem I have with new routes is that I tend to run on auto pilot, forgetting that the topography is different to my usual routes; so I find myself gasping for breath....and then I notice that I am running up hill! Anyway 5k done at a steady 34:38. Most important point is that ( Shhhhhhhhhhh).......my calf feels ok!! So this could be the start of yet another comeback π€
Cheers Damien, excellent 5k from you. I have shied away from RED; still got that only run every other day rule buzzing around in my head! Time I ditched those L plates!! π
It was the exact opposite here. Todays (totally accurate) forecast was for overnight rain, possibly turning to snow , and then wet for most of the day today so I decided to run yesterday in my lunchbreak. My aim was a nice relaxed 5k with no particular time in mind.
It was 4 degrees and overcast so I did a double layer on top with buff and gloves. I ended up being way too hot though, despite ditching the gloves, unzipping zips and pushing up sleeves as far as possible. I probably should have stopped to take off a layer but wanted to keep going.
Despite seriously overheating, an elevated heart rate, and splits all over the shop, I managed another sub-40 minute 5k (my 5th now) so things seem to be heading in a positive direction. π€
Hello! It took me a while to get myself psyched up to go out today and then noticed there was skiing on Eurosport so Iβve only just got back. Warmer with the sun trying to peep through the clouds, but incredibly wet after last nightβs rain. Anyway, an uneventful 33.10 and that takes me over the halfway point for RED January. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Very well done Sandie. Iβm watching Ski Sunday at the moment. Well done too on Red January.
Damien
Doubling up that not a Parkrun damienair just squeezed it before work phew, nearly detailed by a washing machine calamity π³ nice steady 30min time β
OK, I am running 5K every second day or so and walking 5K on the other days. I missed a couple due to snow and ice and my wife working. So I have to make up 19K. I walked 7.5K in 1 hour and 8 minutes today so that is another 2.5K back. So 16.5K to pull back now. I want to get to 155K by the 31st of January.
The walk was just over an hour, and 6km exactly. Only a couple of very brief jogging intervals to check the knee. It was very wet out there, having rained for most of the night. Lots of huge puddles and mud. My socks were soaked, but because they're wool mix they didn't feel cold after the initial wetting.
Just back in from my 5K run. It is a lovely day, little windy, but dry. Much nicer than the snow and ice from last week. I ran in a time of 30:04 and in the last 600 meters had an awful stitch. I have my stretches done, had a drink and now I'll have a nice warm shower followed by a coffee and a scone. My 5K per day for January has had a few hiccups. I've missed 4 days so will have to make up those extra kilometres during the rest of January so as to finish with 155K. 61k done so far, I'm 19K behind. I'll go for a long walk tomorrow.
It's really tricky isn't it? I'm guessing you have the same in Ireland where you're only allowed out for exercise once? It's making it very difficult to get the usual mileage in. We got eldest kitten to meet up with us today with coats so we could have a longer post run walk.Hope your stitch has gone x
I did a fabulous 5k this afternoon - felt amazing. No snow or ice where I am but plenty of puddles - slipped twice! I upped my pace a bit and still felt good - canβt wait for my next run
Hiya Damien, oooh scones....you've just got me thinking of the wild garlic and cheese scones I made last year and that it's getting nearer to wild garlic time again...yum π In fact today's (not)parkrun felt like it was in almost spring-like conditions. We managed to find a couple of hours in the day when it wasn't dark and miserable (like now) and it felt almost warm, I even took my bobble hat and gloves off towards the end. The weather hasn't been quite as bad as it was predicted to be honest, so that's making life a little more perky.
So this was day 16 of RED and thankfully my legs have recovered from the 3x Joe Wicks sessions in the middle of the week, so I felt pretty good apart from the usual feelings of trepidation. We left it a bit late (yet again) and because it was sunny the roads & pavements were busy with people making the most of it.
I did actually do an extra one this week, on Wednesday, as I was getting bored. So I took it at a much more sedate speed and recorded just over 34 minutes, it made a nice change!
Aargh...I forgot all about this until I had my weekly results email from Park Run...which meant that I missed entering *any* times last week. π€¦π»ββοΈ
...but not too late for here π
My actual 5km Run was Tuesday...I felt tired and it wasnβt that brilliant βΉοΈ ... 5.04km in 50:45.
Now yesterday, I did a βshortβ run of 3.5km...over the same route...(having extended it with walking to 5km). Runkeeper gave me 49:27 and my 3rd fastest 5km on there!
So there you go...I must try and enter my times for this week ππ¬
Am i too late? I ran 5k this morning at a nice slow pace interspersed with running away from zombies, 49 minutes, one day i will see if i can walk it any faster
