Good morning everyone. Happy weekend. I am looking forward to my run this morning. I had a cold during the week and I’m just over it now. I’ll take it easy and gently ease myself back into it. That is all I can do now anyway.
If your new to Bridge to 10K we do this every Saturday. parkrun is on hold, but a group of us here pretend and do a 5K timed run. Anyone is welcome to join in. You simply run, walk, jog 5K and then post below letting us all know how you got on.
Good luck everyone and happy running. Looking forward to reading all your run reports.

Morning, I didn’t realise you were doing this, I will look out for your post next week. Having a few days off after my 1st 10k to recover. Have a brilliant run today 🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️💪
Good morning Damien, I am so happy to know that you are now over your cold, so for once my 16th (not) parkrun is done and dusted, I ran it yesterday, on Friday on the same course as I have ran 4 official Parkruns, the same place last year that I had 2 PB's in a time of 30.55 and 30.56 within 9 weeks of each other, however, yesterday's run for me was a more normal 33.30, ran in a wooded area and around part of a loch on a beautiful sunny morning, glad it was yesterday as today it is to rain most of the day, enjoy your run this morning. 😊 🏃🏾
I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better. I went out early this morning as it wasn't raining when I got up. BBC weather suggested heavy rain over night and all day so I was very lucky. I did go out lit up like a Christmas tree as it was still dark and I wanted to try out my new running harness. I had no plans today apart from running. I didn't want to think about pace or heart rate. I ended up running 10k with a PB of 1:02:13. I also got my second fastest 5k time of 30:02. I was 2 seconds off a 5k PB. I am really happy with my time as it is my last run of my 30s. I'll take it as an early birthday present for tomorrow.
Happy Birthday tomorrow. 40’s are the new 30’s. I’m 46 now and still act like a teenager sometimes fighting for time on the PS4 against my 11 and 8 year old Boys. 😀
Great running and fantastic 5K time and 10K time. Very well done.
Congratulations on your 10k PB. I have to say there's something very satisfyingly age- defying about feeling your body getting fitter week after week. I won't be seeing my 30s again but I couldn't have run like I do now back then. Happy birthday and happy running.
My 5k today was as usual run as part of my Magic plan long run(50 mins _7.2k) first 5k 34:50 so not my fastest but I felt really good for the whole run_even the first 2k weren't as hard as usual.
Very well done on your run and adding another couple of kilometres onto it. I’ve fallen behind on my 10K Training. I’ll be getting back into it this week.
I’m fortunate in that I haven’t been plagued with running injuries since I started 2.5 years ago, but this morning I was making the bed and plumping the pillows, and ping, my back went into spasm. 😩 It tightened right up round the sides of my ribs and round the back and it was really painful for a few seconds. After a few tentative stretches I deduced I could still run (important!) and headed out on my (Not) PR.
It was very windy with threatening black skies but it wasn’t raining, and I decided to be sensible and not push for a good time. I could feel my back throughout, but it was stiff rather than painful so I was happy enough to run my course in 36.46.
We’re off to Cornwall for a few days of walking (likely in the rain) on Monday, so it’ll be a lighter week of running this coming week. Probably a good thing as I have my virtual HUHM on the 14th!
Oh no Cheeky. I hope your back is OK. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Your Yoga will stand to you. I pulled my back out during the beast from the east a couple of years ago and couldn’t run for 6 months. But Physio fixed me up and I have not had even a twinge since. Well done for getting out there this morning after that. Enjoy your walking break next week.
Thanks Damien. No idea what I did to make it ping - maybe excess grandson lifting yesterday! It’s still there or thereabouts so I’m taking it easy and sticking to gentle yoga and walking only until we get back on Thursday. 😀
Yes Coddfish, you’re right. I’ll stick to walking and gentle yoga though, and resist taking my running gear to Cornwall. It would be too tempting it I packed it!
Careful CC.....there is another important date towards the end of the month. I love the feel of Cornwall; a soft warmth And freshness in the air even when it is pouring down. 🙂
Morning Damien! No (Not) Parkrun today as just run for England (vs Wales) in the Running World Cup. Putting post up later 👍 Have fun everyone and thank you for keeping us all motivated Damien 👍🏃🏻♂️🏃🏽♀️🏃🏾♂️🏃🏻♀️
We were very tempted to do that too Damien! I thought I didn't feel your presence 😁 It's good to get back out there, hope you didn't need too many tissues. Glad you're on the mend - darned colds!
The forecast was for heavy rain from 10am so we set the alarm for our parkrun time (7.15) to try to beat the rain.
We set off in waterproof jackets but they soon came off as it was warm in the light drizzle. The usual (not)parkrun course again, plus an extra 1km and a 2km walk back to the cafe- we are trying to run/walk 5 miles a day for the LeJog challenge.
The rain was a bit heavier when we left the cafe to look around the monthly village market where we bought some Lancashire cheese, Cornish pasties, some large tea cakes and a huge loaf of tiger bread (I had to split it into two bags to fit it in the freezer).
Then because we were already wet we spent a few minutes in the garden cutting runner beans, the last courgette and pulling some carrots and beetroots to go with the pasties for our tea tonight.
Mmmm Cornish pasties for tea. Yum yum. Enjoy. My boys have decided that they would like one last BBQ. So that’s what we will do. Well done on your (not)parkrun .
I hope you enjoyed your run and the bacon butties in the cafe after the run, your miles for LEJOG are increasing all the time, I hope you enjoy eating those Cornish pasties later.
This morning since the 7th March I did not run a 5K not parkrun as I ran that yesterday, I felt lost, so I WALKED 5K in light rain in a time of 55.23 around one of the parks near to where I live, at least I got out of the house.
As you all know, Man Flu 🤒 can be quite deadly. Attempting a (not)parkrun whilst still having some lingering symptoms is dangerous. I should have had an ambulance following me this morning. I ran 1K and my head was congested, I couldn’t of course remember to bring tissues and had to take several walking breaks. I really struggled. I ran, jogged and walked the 5K course. But it was great to be out in the park in the fresh air. I need to pick up distance again and increase my running back to 4 days per week. I’ll take tomorrow off and get back out there on Monday.
That might have been one of those days where discretion was the better part of valour - but well done for getting out there and finishing the run anyway, fresh air is pretty magical. Hope you're tucked up somewhere warm with a cup of hot lemon and honey (medicinal rum optional).
I’ve been waiting today... my phone says 100% chance of rain all day from 2pm and I haven’t had a wet run for a while... going to warmup in the house and get out there into the storm.
Hope you’ve had a good (not) parkrun this morning.
Edit: just got in... this drowned rat ran 5k in 28:55 and on to 4.5 miles. Took the local legend status for running through town as well... only took 5 runs in 90 days to achieve, my other 3 are in the 40s!!
Very well done on braving the rain and getting a great time. I’m a long way off a sub 29 minute time at the minute. Well done for the extended distance too.
Accidentally hit my quickest 10k of the year yesterday on my “easy” run of HM plan... today was “race pace” but took the 15 minute warmup at 10/mile to set up a sub 30 5k. Very chuffed with the results, but left 2k on the Nike challenge to run 26.2 this week. Light jog early tomorrow and back in to watch the elites for the day!
Good morning Damien and everyone else, we had a dry run this morning, on week 2 of Ju Ju’s magic plan and it was going quite well, 5k in 48 mins and then on to 6k in under an hour
I can still feel the left calf pull slightly but no worse
This is my first time on (not)parkrun/Virtual 5k here on B25K, although I got myself a parkrun ID and have logged a few (not)parkrun results now.
I did my 5k around lunchtime today, during a break in the rain, as my last run of week 4 on the Magic 10 Plan.
This was meant to be a slow 5k in Zone 3. But, as for my 8k run on Wednesday, I just couldn't keep to Zone 3 today. Maybe I'm coming down with something - I've been a bit sniffly the last 2 or 3 days. Maybe it was because I was too hot. I opted for tights, vest, jacket and cap to keep any rain off my specs, but I was peeling the jacket off and tying it round my waist after 1k. The cap came off as well soon after.
After 1.5k, some boys came past me on the unmade road, now full of puddles, on mountain bikes. Then a bit later I turn the corner and find I've caught them up. I had to wait behind them whilst they dismounted and tried to lift their bikes through the verge to avoid 2 large puddles spanning the entire width of the road. "We don't want to get our bikes muddy" one of them said to me. !!! 😶😶😶
You couldn't make it up, could you!
Well my run was slow alright - 43:24 - and it felt like I was pushing it for the last km. I hope my heart rate woes resolve themselves for my next run of the Magic 10 which will probably be a 4k.
Hello and welcome. It’s great to have you on board. We will all be here next Saturday too. So looking forward to seeing you post then too. Well done on your run. It’s just great to get out there isn’t it. Those guys were very precious about their bikes. 😀
Hello Damienair, I ran my not parkrun with the Southsea crew on a New trail On Thursday and got a sub 35, which I’m happy with.
Today was to be 9k on the magic plan so I checked out the best weather window on the Met Office app. We got out at 1.30 And it was pretty nice out there. Of course everyone was flocking to the sea front after all that rain. The tide was high and there was a lovely seaside smell where seaweed had been brought in by the storm.
I set off far too fast for a 9k so I can record a virtual parkrun time of 36:24. After that the kms got slower but I managed the 9k by digging deep at the end and ran 68 mins in all.
UTS did his virtual parkrun too and Will no doubt be posting post footie scores. ⚽️
Sounds lovely. It was quiet on the Mountbatten / Hilsea Lido running route when we braved it around 12pm, although too many off lead dogs out after the rain for my comfort. One came up close to investigate me early on, after which the other dogs must have been able to smell my fear because several others did the same. Odd, it’s a while since I have been bothered by dogs on a run in either sense
I've been doing my long run down there recently Coddfish - it can get quite busy and there's always a few dogs, but none have shown an interest in me yet!
Great going Dexy. Well done on your (not) parkrun earlier in the week and on your 9K today. Great running. Glad you got a break in the weather. I’ve just mowed the lawn. Maybe for the last time this year. We are in for an awful wet day tomorrow. It’s going to be a movie day I think.
It was spooky when I looked back at my 9k the first time on the the plan. It was 3 Oct 2018 and I fell at 8.9 km having to go to hospital. My time 1.08:56! Good job I didn’t know that before I went Out!
Yes definitely a case of getting out today as tomorrow looks awful.
Hi Damien. I have had a self imposed moratorium on running on Saturdays since lockdown started, mainly because, at least in the early weeks, it was more or less impossible to find safe space in any of my regular running areas on a Saturday morning. I have continued happily running on other days, and doing (not) parkrun on a midweek day.
As today is parkrun’s 16th anniversary, and the safe space issue no longer really holds true, I thought I would break my moratorium. I didn’t run 5k, as I had completed a 5k run on each of Tuesday and Thursday this week, but had a pleasant 30 minute slow trot at Tipner Lake on the recently completed new sea defences. Nice cool and slightly drizzly weather, after the main rain had stopped.
It’s probably now time to re-adopt a Saturday run, even though I will keep away from our parkrun area, as I did today.
I completely understand your Moratorium on Saturdays. My local parkrun is ran in a park. It’s a 3 lapper. It’s very quiet on Saturday mornings. Car park is almost empty. There are a few walkers and runners out. It’s nice to wave and say hello to fellow parkrunners from a safe distance. I look forward to that as I am running a lot on my own. Forgot about it being a 16th anniversary parkrun today. Happy Birthday parkrun. Well done on your midweek (not) parkruns and your 30 minutes run today.
Looks like my "run" will be tomorrow, given today's foul weather. I'm estimating it'll be about 5km including walks (not planning on getting back to continuous running just yet).
That was me during the week. Complete and utter ManFlu (very mild head cold). My taste, smell etc was fine. No real cough. Just a congested head, slight head ache. Kids back in School. My kids and wife had it a few weeks ago so it was my turn. It was a nice excuse to have a few hot whiskeys. For medicinal purposes of course.
The weather was pretty miserable here on the South Coast. I didn't much like the look of it at 8.00 or 9.00 so busied myself putting things back in their right place after the decorators had been during the week - why does that take nearly as long as the actual decoration?😀
By 10.00 it had settled into a drizzle so it was now or never. I started off relatively slow, but after 3k the rain set in again, so I decided to put a spurt on and finished at 29.48, with a final k of 5.36. For the first time on a (not) parkrun I didn't see any other runners - perhaps lockdown running is wearing off? Back home for the usual fruit & yogurt and a hot shower!
Great running Jonathan. I am striving now from this week on to return to comfortably running sub 30 minute 5K's. Great time, and well done on a speedy final K.
Hello notparkrunners Having done a long run on Tuesday with both intervals and hills thrown in, and then pushed for a PB 5k on Thursday I decided it was time for a nice steady recovery run today.
I've been lucky with the weather this week - both Thursday and Saturday I managed to plan ahead and get out in rare dry spells. Though my goodness it was muddy today! Most of the time I was able to get away with just a bit of puddle slaloming (my new gore-tex trail shoes coming into their own!) but there was one bit where I took a diversion around the edge of a very very soggy field in the interests of social distancing. It's amazing how much slower you run when your feet are sinking in what feels like a bog, or even after escaping the bog due to carrying an extra kilo or two of mud on your shoes!
Anyway, a nice steady 7:30 pace over 5.6k or thereabouts. Glad I'm not trying to run tomorrow as it looks even soggier - good luck to all the brave souls out there marathoning!
Congratulations on you 5K PB on Thursday. Very well done. And well done on your puddle jumping and bog hopping run. That will strengthen your legs for you.
As with the rest of the Southsea crew (Dexy5 , Oldgirlruns , 2 x Coddfish and the occasional JonathanP ), I've not been running (not) parkrun on Saturdays due to pedestrian traffic on the prom, but I missed our Thursday run this week as I thought (wrongly ) I was developing a cold, so needed to get one in yesterday to stick on the official results sheet.
Dexy was doing a 9k Bridge run, so I decided I'd start at the same time, do a best possible 5k for the record, then rejoin her for the rest of her trip. Having been overly sociable on Friday evening, I wasn't expecting too much, so was well pleased to get to halfway in 12'09" . But the pace started dropping off soon afterwards, and it was a bit of a struggle to hang on for a respectable and still pleasing 24'41".
Having passed Dexy going in the opposite direction with 500m to go, I walk/jogged back that way to meet her after she'd turned, just over 4k into her run. I then discovered I couldn't hold her at the pace she was then going ( ) so watched her disappearing into the distance while I completed my recovery with another spell of walking. Luckily, however, she then had the call to disappear into a convenient facility, which enabled me to rejoin for the second time. With her relieved and me reprieved we ran her last 3.5k together, which gave me a total 10.5k distance in 68 mins of run/walk/jogging.
And then Stanley scored twice in 3 minutes to come from 1-0 down to win at Wimbledon! Happy days!!
Wow, super running. 24:41 is a great time. And even with run/walk/jogging a 10.5 K time of 68 mins IS FANTASTIC. Very well done Stanley on your time and also on continuing to hold your pace and fitness. Happy running.
A delayed 5k for me this week; post long run additional rest day or cowardice in the face of a deluge? Take your pick!
The first 1k was really slow at 6:43 as I slalomed my way through friendly dogs and walkers, but then I picked up pace and ended up with 31:06, another post injury PB. Since I cracked the short stride and higher cadence formula everything seems so much easier. VO2 max grudgingly handed me back the point I lost on last week's 14k.....so all is well; even the sun is shining, oh and my team won yesterday too. Happy days. 🙂
I’m a bit late reporting in I’m afraid having debated whether to include it at all. But on the grounds that walkers are Parkrunners and (not)Parkrunners too, I did my 5k as a walk along the beach yesterday afternoon after it finally stopped raining! My back has been so stiff and sore this weekend I didn’t want to make it worse. It’s been grumbling for 2 weeks and running doesn’t seem to affect it but I’ve decided to have a few days off. But it was Saturday and 5k so here I am! Happy running/walking folks!
