Meant to post this yesterday

I ran yesterday, intending to run 11:11k for Remembrance Day. However, niggly pains got in the way so I ran 5k and walked later to make up the shortfall.

When I got home and had showered and dressed I was watching go the service on tv and stood for the 2 minutes silence and thought of my grandfather who was in both World Wars and made it through. He was in the Old Contemptibles and had a chest full of medals and a letter from King George commending him on his bravery. I used to go with him to the parades in various places when I was younger and look after my Nan, who was partially-sighted, while he marched with the others. I can remember feeling so proud of him. There is a large section in Braunton museum devoted to him and his War history.

Anyway I always well up when the Last Post is played and yesterday was no exception...I eventually sat back down and blew my nose, trying to sort myself out, and my floofy cat who had been asleep on her cat perch, saw I was upset and came over to jump on my lap and try to comfort me by head booping and rubbing her face on mine. She is a very timid cat and very rarely gets in anyone’s laps or lets them pick her up so this set me off again. All in all a very emotional and watery half hour.

Then today I received a package in the post and it was my Bling for doing 5k for VE Day 75th anniversary and also my Armistice Day run medal. I entered these a while ago mainly for some motivation and also and a good portion of the price goes to SAAFA, the Armed Forces Charity.

So pic is of my medals and also of my Grandads, bless him.

It’s the small things that can push you over sometimes! Better out than in I say! Well done on the bling too.

Well done on your runs and medals - thanks also for writing this post too, it is these memories and family histories that will ensure we never forget what your grandfather and others did for us.

Well done limberlou, it is so important that we continue to remember those that came before us , who gave so much for us. Yes the last post and Nimrod always get me going.

I always used to find when they wheeled the old Chelsea pensioners out in their wheelchairs I’d be in a puddle snivelling ... don’t know if there is any of them left now 🙁

I can't see watch the parades. I only have to glimpse them proudly marching and I'm off, I could weep reading this tbh.

I donate to the British Legion via my friends dad every year, I always get a thank you for your donation letter even though I tell him I don't want one.

You must be so proud.

How wonderful that you have such proud memories and have made the effort to show support for a worthy cause.

Cats are a lot more sensitive than we give them credit for. Mine got a bit carried away though when my little granddaughter was staying in lock down- every time she cried the cat walked up and nipped the person holding her. I think she thought they were hurting not helping her.🤣🤣

Happy running.

Thankyou and yes..just before last Christmas my daughter got dumped by her then boyfriend ( BY TEXT!!!) and was heartbroken. She doesn’t relax and open up to guys very often and this was her first serious relationship in about 10 years!! So she did a lot of crying and our boy cat, Loki, who shows real Aspergers symptoms( just like my grandson) and usually avoids cuddles crept up and was trying to comfort her while licking the tears off her face. While the 3 girl cats all cuddled as tight as they could to her purring madly!!! Apparently a cats purr is set at a frequency that heals fractures and lowers blood pressure. Maybe it heals broken hearts too?? Luckily she has a lovely kind guy now 💕

Lovely that it ended well for your daughter. I can't imagine life without a cat in the house.

Neither can I but I must admit 4 are almost too many at times. I was happy with 2 ... daughter wanted a kitten when she bought her new house... me and my son drive to fetch it and I fell in love with the floofy friend and so we got 2... then daughter got transferred for 18 months so her kitten stayed at mine... and now I have 4!! Well we couldnt split them up after all that time 🙄
