Tough 5k yesterday, but a surprising result!

Had my worst run yesterday, my brain and legs werent getting on with either me or each other. Within 5 minutes I felt like I'd had enough and would be lucky if I managed 10minutes, my legs were aching and I just wasn't enjoying the way I usually do. Another 10 minutes down the line and I was still struggling!

Anyway I somehow dragged my brain and legs round and got in the zone in the last 10 odd minutes, and completed the 5k, only to find out I'd done my fastest one yet! Needless to say I was very surprised!

Thanks, oh I shall! Although I'm finding it tough in this warmer weather 😴🏃‍♀️

That's maybe why you were struggling, you were running unbeknownst to yourself in a new higher gear. I have had exactly the same happen where it has felt like hell and then you realise why lol. My watch tells me after 1km so I don't get quite as big a surprise though.

I think that must have been it. Will copy you and set Runkeeper so it tells me what I'm doing each km I think, then I've a progress report on the way 😊

That’s a fab time! Not far for you to sub 30! I think it only hurt you because you didn’t realise your pace was so much faster. Well done!

Thanks, I think it will have to cool down a bit for me to get under 30 mins, I love the warm weather but don't enjoy running in it!

Wow! Great time! You are so much faster than me:-) I agree I think you were probably feeling stretched because you were pushing yourself more than usual. And horrid runs do seem to happen occasionally, and aren’t fun, so you should be especially proud:-)

Haha, I was considerably slower on Saturday when I did my first Parkrun. More inclines than I'm used to and it was stupidly hot for so early.

Brilliant effort Mand102! Well done for persevering through the discomfort! Looks like you have a great circular route there too which probably helps to keep you from turning back :) The only circular route I have from where I live is 5.95 miles on the road - apart from rough off-road tracks through the woods. My goal is to run that loop sometime later in May - though perhaps not quite as quick as you just ran! I'm hoping for 10 min mile for 10k by July ... keep up the good work! x

Thanks, yes I'm very lucky really, it's about a 6 minute brisk walk to that loop. There a path to the left of the loop, just 3 minutes walk and I'm then in a large park where they hold the parkrun, and straight to the left of the loop a path leads onto an undulating brookside path that leads to a nice straight greenway path that runs for 1.5miles. Makes a big difference having somewhere good to run. Hope you get to do that loop soon!

Sounds like you're ideally located! I ran 5 miles of my loop on Saturday, and walked the last section to cool down. :)

Well done to you! I've given myself an extra rest day and gone walking in the hills today as it seemed more favourable than running in this heat. Yes I am very lucky location wise 😊
