Following my reply to Damien’s (Not) PR post this morning saying I wasn’t running as I’d tested positive for Covid-19, I was taken aback by the lovely kind replies. What a forum! 💙
I honestly feel fine in myself, although not being able to taste or smell anything is certainly an odd sensation. I’ve tried Marmite, pickled onions, bacon .... not a dicky bird. We had Indian delivered this evening. Nope. I ate a packet of Revels. What a waste, I had to play guess the texture!
My app says I’ll be good to go on Friday morning, so all being well I’ll be out for a run. Can’t wait. 🏃♀️🤞
Thanks again guys, you’re all wonderful pals! 🥰

Oh crikey Cheeky! I missed that. I have to say I'd consider not being able to taste marmite a bonus (even a silver lining!). I hope you feel fighting fit again very soon. That sounds relatively quick to be able to come out of isolation - short of a full two weeks anyway - but I daresay it will pass very slowly. Hope you have lots to keep you amused and that someone is stepping up to make sure Flossie doesn't miss out.
Thanks Linda. The guidance says 10 days from the onset of symptoms or the date of the test. I’m using Tuesday, as that’s when I noticed the lack of taste, although I was a bit coldy last Sunday. Plenty of Flossie walkers luckily, although as they’re all isolating too it’ll only be in the field behind our house - and I’ll do some laps of the garden (woo!) 😅
Oh CC I’m sorry the hear this, hopefully you will get the all clear soon. I bet you faithful trail partner it wondering why there’s no doggie trails out at the moment. Get well soon and I look forward to your posts. 😊👍
Thanks Runsome! Yes I got some large sad doggie eyes aimed at me yesterday. 🥺🐾 so I despatched a couple of the kids out into the field with her. All I can do is throw a ball in the garden! 🎾
I'm so sorry to hear this cheeky! Take care and you'll be back at it in no time.
My kiddo and I go for testing tomorrow since he was sent home on Thursday from school due to a slightly scratchy throat, slight cough and tight chest. It has all passed now thankfully but the test is in the works so off we go tomorrow and a few more days off school for him.
Not being able to taste would be so horrible. I hope it returns soon!
Eek, fingers crossed you’re both in the clear Sask. 🤞 I felt a bit coldy last weekend, but I’d got soaked to the skin on a couple of runs and put it down to that. It’s when I realised I couldn’t taste our delicious Thai takeaway on Tuesday that I knew something wasn’t right. 🙁 It makes eating so dull!
I had a really tight chest last night when I tried to sleep but it might be psychosomatic 🙄. I had ran a few hours earlier and other than not having as much pep in my step, I didn’t notice much. I guess we’ll find out in a few days. My coffee still tastes very lovely this morning so that part is good 😅
Keeping everything crossed for you Sask. It’s so easy to imagine symptoms, but I did have a gut feeling I was positive when waiting for my test result because of the surreal lack of all taste. I’ve never experienced anything like it before. 😘
Hello cheekychipmunks, Get well soon you super runner you! How very odd it must be to that wide range of foods and taste nothing. Do you have any idea where you may have caught the virus?
Here are some get well soon flowers for you 🌹🌸🌺🌼🌻🌷💐. As you don't feel particularly ill perhaps I should say something about being able to taste and smell soon. So get smelling smelling and tasting soon! That sounds rather odd! Here's to your next run soon. 🏃♀️🐕😊
Thanks Over61! 🤣 I know what you’re saying! No I don’t feel unwell at all, just a bit like when you’re getting over a cold. But oh the taste thing is horrible! Try as I might there’s nothing. 😩
As for where I picked it up, I’ve only been to 2 supermarkets and out for a couple of socially distant meals over the last 10 days, and I’ve been sooooo careful. Probably the supermarket would be my guess 🤷♀️
Thanks for the flowers though, I imagine they smell gorgeous. 🥰🥰
🌸🌻🌹🌷🌼💐🌺 🤗
As I said earlier, this is the perfect time for guilt free self indulgence Cheeky. Get well soon xx
It is isn’t it D-d? Our daughter is cooking for us all today, my husband is rejigging his “gym”, my son will walk the 🐕, my other daughter, partner and our grandson are keeping their distance, understandably, and I have no plans except for yoga, a hot bath and experimenting with different tasteless foods!
If you have to have a period of self quarantine, lockdown is a good time - you are not missing out on any group of 6 run gatherings. Take care, get well soon.
You’re right Coddfish, the timing couldn’t have been better really. It was also long enough since my VV10K meetup that I couldn’t have brought it to Southsea. That would have been awful ..... 😕
Sorry to hear this, Cheeky. I imagine it's very frustrating being cooped up and listing your senses of taste & smell 😔. Hope you can ride out the rest of your time with some gently yoga and relaxation so that you're ready for that first invigorating run on Friday. 🤞🤗
Thanks Slinky, it is dull I must say. I can’t wait for the first tiny taste to return! Yes, yoga will help in the meantime and I’m counting the days before my first run ...... 🥰🏃♀️
Oh dear, I should've written 'losing' your senses... But maybe you are making a mental 'listing' of all the yummy things you like eating, which you can indulge in once this is past! 😁
Oh Cheeky, I’ve been AWOL due to work, but sending you massive hugs!! So glad you’re feeling ok, albeit deprived of any taste. If there’s anything you should eat, but don’t...get in quick!! We want you back out on the run very soon!! 💕💕 ❤️
Thanks Fab, you’ll be miles ahead of me in LEJOG4 now! I’m stuck around Stoke on Trent! 😅 Yes I could even eat liver and tripe now (but believe me, I won’t be!) 🤣
😂😂...🤗...I wouldn’t bank on me being miles ahead 😉. My goodness, it’s been hard to find the end of a working day before the next begins, in my new job! 🪑 👩🏼💻 ... 🌒...🚿...🛌 !
I could just about do liver, but tripe?...I think I’d be able to smell it just from memory 🤢...! I agree...leave it alone!!😂!! Take care Cheeky!❤️
Missed your original post cheekychipmunks so stopping in now to wish you well. The taste thing sounds a real downer, even without other symptoms. Look after yourself, and I hope you recover fully and can run again soon
Thank you Cmoi, I’d just replied on Damien’s yesterday and was overwhelmed with the lovely responses and figured I should acknowledge how kind people are on here. 🥰
Hopefully out of self isolation at the end of the week. 🤞
Oh blimey Munks 😭 so it wasn’t a cold after all? That must be weird about the loss of taste and smell. Just think you could eat the hottest curry and not have any effects 🥵
Take care and just look forward to that run back 🏃♀️
No, not a “getting soaked to the skin” cold at all IP! I’d still think it was if it wasn’t for the taste/smell thing. It’s soooooo surreal. Everything tastes like the taste of water - except I can sense salt and sweet, no flavour. How dull is that for someone who loves their food? 😩
Sorry to hear this but relieved that the symptoms aren’t too bad for you. Go steady starting back running as the lungs may have taken a hit you can’t yet feel. Hope you get a speedy recovery x
Thanks Sparkey, yes when I get back to running I’ll take it super steady. I’m no superhero and have no desire to go fast even when fully fit! I’m hopeful that my fitness is helping me in return. 🥰
Thanks Sybil! My husband has had the same one joke aimed at him when people have asked how I am, and he says I have no taste - “We knew that, she married you”! 🤣
Thanks 58soon, yes it wasn’t an experience I was expecting as I’d been so vigilant with my mask, hand sanitizing etc. I’m thankful it appears to be very mild (touch wood). 😀
I missed this on damien’s post cheeky but Dexy mentioned it to me; so sorry to hear about it but I hope you’re back to fighting fitness soon!💐💐 and virtual 🤗 to you!
No worries OGR, but thanks for your good wishes. Can’t wait to get back to normal, and that goes for the whole country! 😘
Sending love and hugs from the East Coast!! A little rest week will do you some good too. Do what you can to stretch and strengthen. You'll be ready after a recharge to get out there again 🙂🙂🙂
Thanks so much GTFC, yes it’s not often I do so little! I’m keeping going with a bit of restorative yoga and trying to imagine the taste of my food! Hope to get back out there slowly next weekend. 🤞🏃♀️😀
Looking forward to seeing a run report and all being well. Fingers crossed the loss of taste and smell is the worst of it for you and that it doesn’t last long
Thanks Kevin. It’ll be a slow and gentle run when it happens but I really can’t wait. As for the taste and smell, that can come back whenever it likes .... soon please! 🙏🏻
Yikes sorry to hear this Cheeky...but so pleased it sounds like you're coming through it relatively unscathed. Thank the lord and I truly hope that continues.
Have fun with the weirdness of a lack of taste and smell...have you tried sucking on a lemon, or a shot of vinegar 😳😆
In the mean time, there's always running up and down the stairs or around the garden...desperate times and all that! Xx
Thanks Run46! I’ve tried so many tasty foods just to get the tiniest taste sensation, but nothing works. I can sense sweet and salt, but that’s all. Oh well. I guess it’ll come back one day. 🤞😀
I had it but I had such a bad stomach with it I couldn’t even drink water without it coming straight out for 10 days. It took a while before my smell and taste came back. I craved oranges for some reason 😊 it will come back xx
Oh that must have been horrific. Poor you. 😕 Wow, I guess I’m getting off lightly if this is all I get. Tomorrow will be one week since my senses went.
O my goodness, I am sorry to hear that. It's good that you are feeling well in yourself and I hope your senses of smell and taste return quickly. Like you, I am a foodie!
I'm sure your legs will enjoy the rest and be ready for action in a few days! Take care xx
Thanks CSMN! My legs feel like they’d like to go for a run tomorrow but they’re not allowed. As for my meals, well they’re all tasting exactly the same - of nothing! 😩
Thanks Littleoyellow. I have 4 days of self isolation to go according to the NHS app - just keeping everything crossed that no one else in the household gets any symptoms - or we’d all be back to square one!
I feel fine and can’t wait to run when I’m allowed to. 😀
Oh Cheeky, I've not been on here for absolutely moons ... some lovely familiar VRB's have raised their heads and I thought I'd come and hunt you out. Glad to see you're still here (well of course you are!) but sorry to see you're having to self isolate .... but on the plus side you're feeling ok so that's great. Take care of yourself 🦋💖
Aww Flara how wonderful to hear from you! Hope you’re ok? 🥰
Yes I have a couple of days to go then (touch wood) I can get out again. It’ll be slow and gentle as I’ve done next to nothing for over a week. Can’t wait for my taste to return. Food is so meh at the moment! 😖
Ahh no worries OF, but thank you! 🥰 Still no taste or smell, but I’m able to leave the house on Friday morning (touch wood), so I’ll be out for a very gentle run. I’ve done nothing at all except yoga so it’ll be interesting to see how much fitness I’ve lost! 😳
Thanks Brian, I do feel very fortunate especially hearing about all the horror stories on the news about how this virus can affect people. I’m putting my mild (albeit very annoying) symptoms down to my baseline fitness - due to running! 🙏🏻
Hey Cheeky. Sorry I missed this but bonkers mad few weeks for me. I see you are all ok from your other post which is such good news. And I agree, what a waste of a packet of revels. Hope you feel bright and back to your usual fizzy lovely self.
